Goodwin is an employee and should be respected, regardless of what is occurring within the club and the anger from members.

It seems Green didn’t address what you (plus thousands of members) wanted, so let transfer the frustration and anger at Green because too many here can’t self regulate themselves.

I would be disgusted (more so than where we are at) if the club treated our Premiership winning coach with such disrespect.

I have to say, I’ve been withholding from saying this for weeks, but might as well just say it now..

I really don’t like the Sack Goody thread. I understand why it exists, it’s a reasonable discussion, but reading through it sometimes all I see is spite, and anger.

Goodwin presided over a great time for our club, during a very difficult period. For several years there we were standard setters, and if not for poor kicking on the day, and a career ending hit to one of our favourite sons.. who knows, maybe we would’ve got our MCG premiership.

I feel like that gets forgotten too much on that thread, as it does in this discussion.

I’ve come around to the notion that Goody needs to go, but I will also respect him immensely for what he gave us and feel uncomfortable with the way he is often spoken about in this place.

There wasn't any mention of the Board Meeting or what they might be addressing.
He managed to drive right around that.
We aren't stupid. The club has long taken many of us for fools.

All I'm saying is that posters wanted something to happen now, and that can't happen until the board meets. All he did was acknowledge the issue now, it's over to them.

Honestly, what do you want the club to do today that would actually make us better next year and beyond?

The decisions have to be made at the end of the year. Making us look unstable toward the end of a season didn’t do us any favours in ‘24 with the Tracc mess, and it won’t help us this year. We just need to hold the line, and then hold the right people to account at season end.

There’s no point acting out of emotion. It won’t bring the right people to the club, and that’s what we need to get better - the right people.

Cut the [censored].. There is nothing disrespectful in acknowledgement of the issue at hand, the poor performances and those whose job it is to do better.

There is nothing disrespectful in suggesting he (SG) might be accountable at a Board Meeting. This is what this business is all about.

Couldn't give a care about your 'disgust' . That's something for you to deal with

But you can’t put the cart before the horse. It would be inappropriate for him to cast doubt on the coach’s position without due process, there would be a feeding frenzy in the press.

Fair enough… perhaps he should have waited until after appropriate meetings had been had… I just get the feeling that his rather predictable letter has created more questions than it answers; but yes, I do understand (and appreciate) where you are coming from.

Brad acknowledged performance was not good enough and didn’t reach expectations. I’m not sure why he should isolate Goody (although I don’t want him coaching in 2026).

I could not give a rats about your multiple posts saying the same ole, same ole every day.

But continue to do so. It’s a public chat forum about our club.

I ..wasn't particularly suggesting he ought to isolate Goody. I thought he might address the Coaching and Football Dept as items of discussion for the impending meeting especially as they were agenda'd anyway. They seem topical after all.

You post suggested Green pointing out SG being made accountable to the Board in his letter to members.

Clarify for me. Should Green isolate SG in his letter to members, or not?

No. But certainly could mention in context of those in charge of coaching, selecting and managing the team. He's in that mix, as are others. And not one , nor any roles mentioned in his 'nothing' letter. One between that only came about as a result of our 'record breaking' performance ...or non-performance yesterday.

The Elephant(s) were carefully ignored.

Not for the first time

Green pointed out lack of performance on field, therefore highlighted the Football Department. That’s how I read it, without naming names.

No elephants, probably more vague than you wanted. Kudos to Green for writing a letter to the members. Many had an issue with Koffey for not addressing the members.

Nothing standard letter to members... Not he coach mentioned very unhappy directors and senior supporters (unofficial power brokers)

Some action will be done, the question is what it will be?

ABC TV 7 o'clock news report stated that Brad Green had written 'a letter to members on behalf of the Board committing to bringing the Demons back to their glory days'.

Well, no, the letter 'only' said that the 'Board and [he] are committed to doing everything required to have our AFL program performing at the level we all expect'.

The latter could be interpreted as the former, by those expecting a return to the glory days (1950s/60s? 2021? 2021-23?) but it's just not what the letter said. Where and why does the media choose to apparently wilfully misrepresent? It's particularly surprising from the benign ABC news.

Completely agree.

IMV it reflects very poorly on our supporters how some talk.

Some post as though premierships should be automatic and can be accidental or flukes. God given things. It's ridiculous, naive and/or arrogant in a multi billion dollar industry to think this way.

Yesterday's finish was heinous and the last straw for me with Goody, but I saw people compare it to 186, we lost by a kick after the siren FFS.

I was at 186 and I was there yesterday. Completely different situations. We should be better than two straight bottom 4 finishes, but we are also not 186 level or even 148 level insipid. 148 was another I had the horror of seeing.

There is no doubt our fall from the top has been drastic. However, this does not undo the incredible 3 years we had at the top as pace setters, and no amount of potting in that thread will erase what Goody gave me and many other Melbourne supporters. Something of dreams and something I thought I'd never witness. We may not have been there to see it in person, but we won a [censored] flag.

Goody deserves respect for his tenure as one of our most successful coaches and certainly our most successful coach of the last 50 years. It's a huge achievement, and potting him repeatedly page after page doesn't reflect well on anyone.

I hope we can manufacture a dignified exit at the end of 2025, he deserves it. But with this administration, I don't trust them to make the right decision on any front. I hope I'm wrong.

The [censored] that made a threat to Goodwin has probably conversely made it harder for the Board to sack him.

I agree, may delay the inevitable to seasons end. This threat thing has made it little complex. Just imagine the vultures if a coach gets sacked days after receiving death threats from a fan.

What do you think is more embarrassing?

Losing down at Mordor with a nothing list? Or is it a 46 point capitulation with a team full of premiership players?

Simple question, simple answer.

Probably both equally embarrassing but at least the 186 has the caveat that the club was a basket case and full young inexperienced players. Yesterday? No excuses!

Dear Members,

..... your Board and I are committed to doing everything required to have our AFL program performing at the level we all expect.

Really?

What about holding those who run our football department to account? What about ensuring our coaches do something about the same problems we have had for 4 years in some cases such as kicking for goal? What about ensuring our players commit to basic football actions like running to position for a 666 and a centre bounce?

What about making sure our leaders like Gawn Petracca Viney and oliver learn how to kick a f*ng football?

There are a hundred things the fan base is irate about that we see week in week out like selection integrity, or playing Petty in the fwd line? Who is being held to account for these decisions?

No one is being held to account as far as I can tell.

So Brad, thanks for the letter. Props for speaking to members at a difficult time but its total crapola. We are losing members at a faster rate than any other club according to my inside informant. If change is not seen to be happening we won't have a club.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
