Every 2nd disposal? Not even close, in fact we turned over more of their ball on a %age basis than they did ours. But you did mention the main issue.

The wheel will only turn with improvement in the list. That can come from within (e.g., more maturity and experience in the younger players) or by bringing in established players who can make a difference.

We're definitely better than our worst results this year but you could also argue we're not as good as our best results this year.

Our worst results have been abysmal. We still have a reasonably strong nucleus of proven senior players, with some emerging guys, the issue is we're struggling to hide some of their fundamental weaknesses of the group (kicking skills, composure under pressure, goal-kicking accuracy) as the game continues to evolve with an added emphasis on those qualities.

Structurally across all areas of the ground we are average and rely on individual brilliance too often. With several tweaks there as well as alterations positionally, we'd have less smashings against NM and GC, better results in Darwin and we could eek out these close games more regularly.

People here were so starved for a win last week and it got more plaudits than it deserved. We beat a bottom for team after a month of losing then lost to another cruddy team that happened to have a few more better players than last week.

For what its worth I wasn't that impressed with Carlton tonight. I thought the 2nd quarter was our Xmas gift to them early. The fact that they won the quarter after being pretty poor was a joke.

But they did win the individual moments and therefore the game. Im sick of losing to this mob.

For some reason I just knew something was going to go wrong there. Bowey doesnt get pinged, he finds targets, but of course the one time this wasn't going to happen was right there.

When your not a good team these moments almost find a way to go against you.

If you are suggesting that the free kick count was lopsided sided, then I’d suggest that you are off the mark… it was 29-21 which in today’s game (not meaning today the 19th July), is not really out of the ordinary.

We lost through poor skills, and lack of effort, meaning that we gave the ball up far too easily. Who cares if we won most stats counts if we were actually unable to use all of those possessions etc, to our advantage? Take more marks, make more tackles, win the hit outs etc etc… that all means nothing if you are just giving the ball up to the opposition without improving the team’s position on the field and, more importantly, adding to the score.

If you just look at the final score, you’ll see that pretty much everything I’ve just stated is self evident. It’s simple really, you don’t win matches if you don’t put the score on the board and you don’t put the score on the board if you are unable to maintain possession of the ball and move it forward.

While a couple of those 8 goals are the result of some dodgy umpiring (coupled with some poor discipline), most of them are the result of us being unable to put a score on the board. 12.8 is not necessarily a winning score, but 10.10 is probably a losing one.

Totally agree I have said it on this site since 22 you could see it pan out but they just played the same way with the same problems but posters kept saying we are all good, well it's bitten us in the butt.

I'm not sure why we're the only team in the competition that doesn't play three key forwards.

A lot of the time there's only one down there because of JVR being the back up ruckman and both him and Jefferson spending time on the bench and still we just kick it onto heads.

We cannot keep looking at what ifs !!!

Because fundamentally we are collectively poor at hanball/kicking to the advantage of our own team, plus that with forwards that don't seem to want to move/lead that would create space and allow easier entry marks.

I understand we are trying to change list to suit new style, but good clubs/coaches are always ahead of curb, not following.

And yes goody was that 5 years ago, but good coaches always evolve, just not sold he can.

Our season was summed up in that comedy of errors in Q3.

We didn't take the shot inside 50, instead we needlessly handpass to a man under pressure, he kicks across the face towards another teammate no closer than either of them. That desperate pass got turned over. Despite all our pressure and doing everything the hard way, Carlton went straight down the other end and scored a goal within seconds.

Same old Melbourne under Goodwin:

Winning all the stats except the whole kicking more goals than the other team (who looked really bad tonight).
