Disgraceful performance

Carlton are a rabble .

Umpire standard is Disgraceful

After all that, every 2nd disposal of ours is either turn over or fumble.

Lucky for kossie, otherwise we might as well be Fitzroy.

Every 2nd disposal? Not even close, in fact we turned over more of their ball on a %age basis than they did ours. But you did mention the main issue.

We don't have enough kickers from the backline to split defensive zones.

We don't have the speed to roll and go from D50 to break games open.

We are just so stagnate from our defensive half.

Bowey is the only player that can kick and slice through a defensive zone on a consistent basis, no one else.

That's where the game is at these days every other top 6 team has 3-4 playera that can slice through a zone with speed and foot skills.

What game did you watch.Bowie turned it over just as good as our so call A grade midfielders

Do you think if we just keep persevering the wheel will turn in 2026?

The wheel will only turn with improvement in the list. That can come from within (e.g., more maturity and experience in the younger players) or by bringing in established players who can make a difference.

Not the point I'm making is it? Read the original post again.

I thought my days of ranting on footy forums was long over, but [censored] me. What a shameful effort. That Carlton team shouldn't come within eight goals of that Melbourne team.

Absolutely pitiful.

Exactly and when he is not on like tonight, we are F kd.

That's why you need other dependable kickers with leg speed to share the load.

Based on what facts exactly?

Do you even know the difference between stating a fact that hasn't even occured to making a statement based on opinion.

What happened when we ditched The Rev Dazzle? He was very similar to Goody in that he 'had' the players.

That's a fact Jack!

Agree with your post, but not entirely in agreement with this. Yes, we have some good/great players. But the trouble is that their work is being undone by the half-dozen who are yet to confirm themselves as AFL-capable.

Success on field isn't so much about your best players, but your worst.

We're definitely better than our worst results this year but you could also argue we're not as good as our best results this year.

Our worst results have been abysmal. We still have a reasonably strong nucleus of proven senior players, with some emerging guys, the issue is we're struggling to hide some of their fundamental weaknesses of the group (kicking skills, composure under pressure, goal-kicking accuracy) as the game continues to evolve with an added emphasis on those qualities.

Structurally across all areas of the ground we are average and rely on individual brilliance too often. With several tweaks there as well as alterations positionally, we'd have less smashings against NM and GC, better results in Darwin and we could eek out these close games more regularly.

Bowey casually running out of defence gets tackled by Docherty. Free kick. Goal. That was horrible. Did he not see Docherty? Did he have ZERO AWARENESS?? WHAT THE???

People here were so starved for a win last week and it got more plaudits than it deserved. We beat a bottom for team after a month of losing then lost to another cruddy team that happened to have a few more better players than last week.

For what its worth I wasn't that impressed with Carlton tonight. I thought the 2nd quarter was our Xmas gift to them early. The fact that they won the quarter after being pretty poor was a joke.

But they did win the individual moments and therefore the game. Im sick of losing to this mob.

Not quite. We have a list that was built around one kind of footy but the game has moved on.

So you want to compare our list with North's then and you think it's comparable, and then let's compare the the two clubs then shall we, from when clarkson got there and Goodwin from 22 it's been downhill since.

Goodwin took over a list ready to challenge for finals, Clarkson took over a list starting from the absolute bottom.

Goodwin has won finals in two seasons out of nine since 2017. If we had the same season in 2021 but didn't roll on and win the flag - say we never turned it on in the 3rd of the GF and lost to the Dogs - would Goodwin be given so much leeway? It's a joke, he's had years to sort this out now - YEARS!! And the exact same problems persist. Nothing changes, watching MFC games is the literal equivalent of running into a brick wall over and over expecting that this time you'll somehow bash through it. Who the hell wants to watch this garbage week in, week out? We have no method to our ball movement, our once stellar defence is a shadow of itself, our forward line has no structure or movement and when the forwards do lead up the ball is kicked on top of/over their heads. We have butchers in the midfield who keep getting games despite their poor disposal and then get told we can't blame that on the coach. And all this with a healthy list! Spare me.

For some reason I just knew something was going to go wrong there. Bowey doesnt get pinged, he finds targets, but of course the one time this wasn't going to happen was right there.

When your not a good team these moments almost find a way to go against you.

1 stat however was clearly lopsided, and yet they cannot fathom where the game was lost. Is this an intelligence problem?

If you are suggesting that the free kick count was lopsided sided, then I’d suggest that you are off the mark… it was 29-21 which in today’s game (not meaning today the 19th July), is not really out of the ordinary.

We lost through poor skills, and lack of effort, meaning that we gave the ball up far too easily. Who cares if we won most stats counts if we were actually unable to use all of those possessions etc, to our advantage? Take more marks, make more tackles, win the hit outs etc etc… that all means nothing if you are just giving the ball up to the opposition without improving the team’s position on the field and, more importantly, adding to the score.

If you just look at the final score, you’ll see that pretty much everything I’ve just stated is self evident. It’s simple really, you don’t win matches if you don’t put the score on the board and you don’t put the score on the board if you are unable to maintain possession of the ball and move it forward.

Which is exactly why Goodwin should have been moved on at the end of the ‘23 Season

Yze or Hardwick should have been given the Keys

But here we are plummeting further away.

Read that back to yourself Dazzle. Especially the umpiring bias bit.

Wake the F up. If you're acknowledging games are basically fixed - yet still bashing your own players, you're part of the problem.

Start sticking up for your club and it's players FFS, rather than turning a blind eye to this rorting.

You're all over the shop.

I'll let you go back to sticking your head back in the sand.

While a couple of those 8 goals are the result of some dodgy umpiring (coupled with some poor discipline), most of them are the result of us being unable to put a score on the board. 12.8 is not necessarily a winning score, but 10.10 is probably a losing one.

Totally agree I have said it on this site since 22 you could see it pan out but they just played the same way with the same problems but posters kept saying we are all good, well it's bitten us in the butt.

The umpires played brilliantly for Carlton but we didn't help ourselves with our mediocre skills under pressure.

I'm not sure why we're the only team in the competition that doesn't play three key forwards.

A lot of the time there's only one down there because of JVR being the back up ruckman and both him and Jefferson spending time on the bench and still we just kick it onto heads.

We're definitely better than our worst results this year but you could also argue we're not as good as our best results this year.

We cannot keep looking at what ifs !!!

Because fundamentally we are collectively poor at hanball/kicking to the advantage of our own team, plus that with forwards that don't seem to want to move/lead that would create space and allow easier entry marks.

I understand we are trying to change list to suit new style, but good clubs/coaches are always ahead of curb, not following.

And yes goody was that 5 years ago, but good coaches always evolve, just not sold he can.

Our season was summed up in that comedy of errors in Q3.

We didn't take the shot inside 50, instead we needlessly handpass to a man under pressure, he kicks across the face towards another teammate no closer than either of them. That desperate pass got turned over. Despite all our pressure and doing everything the hard way, Carlton went straight down the other end and scored a goal within seconds.

Same old Melbourne under Goodwin:

Winning all the stats except the whole kicking more goals than the other team (who looked really bad tonight).

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
