Jake cracking the sads again….

didn't think he was a crack the sads kind of person

Ah well who even cares.. Whether Morris is right or wrong, the fact is that this club continues to disappoint on & off the field. We’ve completely blown the successes of ‘21.

I honestly just want to see some bold moves from the club this off season. Whether it’s Lever, Clarry, Trac, Goody, Williams, Richo etc.. None of this shuffling around of line coaches rubbish.

And for the love of god, can we play some kids and see what they’ve got? Lever gets held accountable.. Great! What about Sparrow, Fritsch, Sharp!! I’d probs be frustrated if I was Lever too.. Being one of the few players made an example out of is a bit rich imo.

He was dropped in the same week as JVR and Windsor.

Fritsch was dropped earlier this year.

There are others I’d like to see dropped but he’s not even close to being the “only player made an example of”.

Sparrow has had a free pass all year.

I don't really care whether Lever is unhappy or not, or whether these media reports are true or not,

The fact is that he is a very highly paid, experienced footballer whose form has been woeful for two years, in a team that has significantly underperformed in that period. He absolutely deserved to be dropped, even earlier than round 16, and probably for more than one week.

I've said it previously - Lever is clearly the first player we should be floating as trade bait if we are serious about rebuilding the list.

Sure. So has Salem, whilst Sharp’s played more games than I think his form has deserved.

Doesn’t mean your earlier post and comments on Lever were fair.

Not thinking he was alone. I'm somewhat surprised he wasn't ( surprised ) at being elevated when he was. That he was included to me was more puzzling that when omitted. He hasn't be 100% all year.

He's a very reasoned chap . His outlook is generally grounded. Thats his shtick.

Morris like a lot of other feral wannabe journos is just foraging in the bin ( his natural habitat )

All clubs keep tabs on players. Bit like "tomorrow the sun will come up and startle some"

What might hold some curry in a sort of juxtapositional manner is Lever may have been a little surprised, but in a manner as I'm sure half of what Goodwin does may seem perplexing to many. Players no different in that regard.

That’s footy, sometimes as a lower level player you get a game when you think you would be dropped and vice versa.

Must have a very heathy opinion of self if this is true as he’s played some shockers the last few years

God there is some rubbish posted by this cowardly journalist who loves trying to then back track and cover his tracks.

No [censored] a senior player who has pride and significant confidence in his own ability (as all good players do) would be embarrassed and frustrated at being dropped - especially when his team was under performing.

I can only hope this was the case and as I think most of us agree, Jake did need a slight kick up the backside to make sure he is fully committed to being the absolute best version of himself where he commits his body and mind 100% on every contest.

He got this and played better on the weekend.

What annoys me is when journalist create there own news stories in that a player, frustrated at being dropped is now potentially looking to leave the club with other clubs now keeping an eye the situation. You're making a player like Jake - a pro - and 100% footy nerd who is also 100% Melbourne, look like he's a sooking diva and now wants to leave after correctly receiving a reality check on his performance.

Worst still, is our own supporters are using these lies to pile on and get stuck into Lever's character!

Lever staying or going isn’t going to change our fortunes too much. So I’m neither upset or happy if he does.

But I won’t be taking anything that Morris or Manure report as factual. They are gutter journalists who make up stories to get a few clicks.

The Lever of 3-4 years ago is a walk up start. Surprised he’s only 29.

Something in the water at Casey. I dont think i have seen any other club in modern AFL history take a premiership list full of mid 20's and a handful in their 30s and then have so many underperforming premiership players that are still 20 something.

It actually beggars belief. And to then have salt rubbed into the wound, you see Collingwood with a playing list that is full of 30 somethings have an unbelievable season.

Nothing like some of the ol’ Demonland Cheer Squad reverse onus, hey?

Lever needs to show that he can contribute if oppositions deprive him of third-man-up opportunities by continuing to spread our defence with short kicks to a variety of forwards. Being the "extra" at the drop is the easiest gig in footy if oppositions don't spread it around. You've got no better example than last weekend when Adelaide was careless with their entries and kept picking out our free defenders, but when the Crows started looking for multiple short options, we had defenders out of position. Either Lever improves his man-on-man game or our on-ballers put more heat on delivery to force dump kicks and disable the short options. Last week we were one small defender short, and as a result, lacked ground cover and rebound zip.

Rumors were swirling months ago that Lever could be on the trade table anyway. With Turner’s continuing emergence and May’s ability to still play high quality footy, if the right option comes along, the club should look to cash in on Lever.

You can’t replace the gorilla full backs as easily as you can a half back floater.

Would love to see Jed Adams bought in for the remainder of the season to see what he can bring, but irregardless, I sense some sort of shuffling of positions in the defensive stocks post season.

Agree, with Adams having a shot.

Turner has gone past him, I’d even prefer petty in his role.

If we can clear the 800k from the cap I think it’s worth a look.

Hopefully norf or a team like the saints over pay for him.

Story or not, I'd be listening to all approaches on players who aren't named Max or Kysaiah.

Silly statement.

Aside from the fact that we have a number if players we need to build our side around (Turner, Lindsay and Langford) come to mind, a culture of entertaining trades for everyone is a great way to destabilise the club.

We have some players to make trading decisions on, for sure, but that list should only have 3-4 names on it.

Plus a 1st rounder, i would take that in a heart beat.

We have to be ruthless now or we will be years in the wilderness.

In order for this to happen a couple of our mature age players must be traded.

Must secure 2x 1st rounders from clubs with healthy draft hands, we can't go a draft without 1st rounders.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
