ND isn't it so obvious he plays his best footy Crumbing off Robbo/Neitz.... like 2004 and 2005.... get him out of the midfield/half back and give Pettard a full game and get Davey back to where he can have an impact... in the forward 50... we are so terrible when the ball hits the ground at the moment, probably the worst/slowest chasers out of the forward 50, who out of Bate/Sylvia/Robbo/Neitz has genuine speed to force errors.... maybe only Sylvia at times...

common sense, get Davey forward.

I have been sayinig this for 2 seasons, but we lack pace in our midfield, all of them are one paced and we look slow. He is the only player with explosive speed in our team. Other players may be able to run fats but don't have the aceleration of Davey. Saying that though Davey needs to be the crumbing forward, if he is not going to play that role then why did we get rid of Armstrong who could play that role, not with the same polis but hey he has a medal now.

Davey should be in the F50 only. We really miss his pressure and his tackling as well as the crumbing, up the ground he is knackered by 1/4 time and then pretty much spent for the game.

I cant remember him putting on 1 big chase last night. Another terrible coaching desicion.

Apperantly Buckley has a fair bit of pace. Why isn't he getting a game?

He was emergency two weeks ago, so he must be getting close.

Davey's pace is wasted in the middle of the ground because he hardly gets the ball and he doesn't know how to position himself. The only time he gets the ball is out wide on the flanks. Either play him as a loose man in defence, or play him deep in the forward line.

A midfielder he ain't.

Buckley is not playing well at Sandy regardless of his pace.

I seriously question Davey's appetite for the contest. Its easy on the fly. Unfortunately football is not always played on the down hill.

He has struggled with being closely tagged and even if he went forward the same thing would be happening.

Why do you say that?

Here are some comments from other posters regarding his performances:

"prominent all day and gave a lot of drive from his wing"

"a solid game from the youngster who collected 20 plus possessions and kicked a goal. His delivery under pressure was good and he showed great composure. Not far off getting a run in the red and blue"

"a player with explosive pace and all of the athletic ability necessary to play the game at the highest level. He was played mainly at halfback where he displayed a good approach on the football and generally disposed of it well. He is still on a steep learning curve as he showed when he tried to mark from behind instead of spoil deep in defence during the last quarter. However, at his very next opportunity, he did the right thing and punched the ball away from his opponent’s hands"

I haven't been to every Sandy game this year but from what I can tell he's only had one poor game recently, which is alot better that most of the players ahead of him. What do you base your comment on?

I rate him as a specialist forward pocket. He is too short/slight to play in the backline and will always be exposed in the midfield going the other way - not accountable and same reasons as he can't play at the back.

He does have pace and an awareness of the goals. Not sure I would be as harsh on him as Rhino as his skills have been poorly utilised from a team strategy point of view.

The two goals that he kicked were typical Aaron Davey.

I'm all for giving him the occasional run through the middle, just to break things up a bit but he should be spending most of his time in the forward line.

And therefore should be a perfect example of how he can best be utilised for the benefit of the team......

Agreed  !!!

davey is playing in the midfield because he is needed there

our "inside" players have along well, where-as we have almost neglected getting quick players to finish things off

we need buckley and petterd to develop into midfielders, we need hayes to start blowing teams away at sandy and push for a spot on the main AFL list (doubtful, but if it happens he could be very good)

brock and jonesy have the ability to run with ball, they just dont have the explosive burst to get away from a pack (oh for juddy...)

Playing Davey in the midfield is robbing Peter to pay Paul. We're not quick, and Davey plays up the ground the same reason Ward phas been getting a reasonably regular gig the past couple of years.

Funny how people can change their opinion so much after a loss though - I brought up our relatively slow midfield a little while back but no one seemed too keen to agree ;)

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
