Laurie after being overlooked yet again for two players in poor form.

Surely if you’re dropping Lever you throw Petty down back and keep JVR and Jefferson together ? Seems weird. Throwing JVR around like a yo yo between Casey and AFL is no good, especially when you’re asking a key forward to second ruck most of the time then play measly minutes up forward.

Petty not having been omitted in two years despite poor form at times, and consistently getting games over JVR, is clearly Goodwin playing favourites. It's very unfortunate to see Melbourne prioritising a stop-gap forward over someone who has showed significant upside in that same position, and has to balance that as a back-up ruckman playing 65% game time whenever he does get a senior gig.

GC are a fairly fast paced side so guess we are injecting some pace and giving Jeffo a run. Interestingly we are rated in the top 4 for ball movement from defense into f50 according to AFL. Feel like we are are going in a bit short though, needed another tall on the bench. Will be very interesting, putting a bit on Blake Howes.

No TMac with Lever out? Would rather drop Petty. Goodwin has lost me for good.

For god's sake get over it. TMac is old and slow and by his own admission can't jump. He's also a liability when the ball hits the ground. He can hold down 3rd tall position, but so can others. If May was out, it might be a different story, but Tom is never a replacement for Lever.

It's also important to keep playing the younger players, there's no future whatsoever in playing Tom.

If we somehow get up and win, there will be some red faces on this thread.

Sounds like Rivers will be sent back to defence in place of Windsor.
I assume T.Mac is back in for Lever and Jeffo in for JVR with Tholstrup in as likely sub - Lindsay back starting.
I especially liked hearing that Goody intimated that Viney may play forward - been calling for that for some time as he actually is a very accurate shot at goal - he just can't hit up targets with ease.



And what benefit would Viney be playing in the forward line, average overhead mark, cannot kick over 45 metres out, not quick on a lead?

If you mean up forward, at the moment it's probably a toss-up between Petty and JVR as to who gets dropped, and presumably the thinking is that JVR will get more out of a run in the two's than Petty. I for one would prefer Petty alongside Jeffo than JVR, Petty is a more physical player.

If you mean Petty down back, fine but a) is he needed (3rd tall?) and b) that leaves JVR and Jeffo forward and see above.

Not sure how Harry Sharp gets a gig here. He was unsighted at Casey last game.

I assume it's the sub vest again for him on the back of his casual jog v Essendon VFL.

I don't hate the changes.

Would have liked to have seen JvR retain his spot and bring in Jeffo alongside him. It's going to be a big ask for Jeffo to be a solo key forward when presumably Petty goes into the ruck and Gawn is having a spell. JvR must be getting frustrated with being yoyo'd in and out of the team.

Sharp had a poor game in the twos and Tholstrup didn't play after being dropped so finding it strange that they refuse to reward Laurie who's been in the bests nearly every week.

Would have had Laurie and Tholstrup in with Tholstrup as sub.

Alas, hopefully we match their run and provide some good opportunities for our forwards.

A good day of Saturday footy watching regardless. Hopefully.

I am not a big fan of H. Petty but the decision to drop JVR is way too late. He has become a liability and shows no forward skill at all. Hopefully he will not be recalled.

I would also have dropped Viney - he is out of his depth now and has become a liability.

Lever is overrated these days and it is good to see him out.

We will now get to see what MJ can do and it is not before time.

I understand where you are coming from Roger, but he has also played his best games when introduced as sub. Maybe that’s what our MC have in mind.

He was in good form when he got dropped despite his limitations and should be in the side based on FORM.

Age is just a number.

Seems selection is based on favourites rather than form.

It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall during the selection meetings, would be a real eye opener, hopefully not a popularity fest??

I'm excited to see how our defensive set up functions with May, Turner and Howes, they might be a little big for us, but I like that we made the call on Lever. I'm not convinced we can play both of May and Lever in the same team. They slow our ball movement down too much and are slow to defend plays now.

At the other end of the ground though is where it's going to be most interesting. Melksham, Jefferson and Petty with Fritta and Kozzy. Petty will, I assume, take second ruck duties.

Having Melksham down there will hopefully give Jefferson some support against the taller interceptor like Andrew, but more likely Collins. So that should allow Jefferson to fly for the ball.

Kozzy needs to go bezerk and Melky and Fritta need to contribute strongly on the scoreboard if we're any chance here.

We need a redemption story with our mids. They were dreadful in the corresponding game earlier in the year, so they need to lock down on Rowell in particular IMO, so I'd be fine with a hard tag there from Viney, and I'd be happy for Oliver to go head to head with Anderson, and for Trac and Kozzy to go against Miller and co.

As is the story most weeks, bring our kicking boots and we're a chance, particularly early in the game, otherwise you can forget it.

Dropping JVR over Petty shows Goodwin isn’t actually serious with his “selection statements” and hopefully the players see through it as well
