13.6 in the second half! Unbelievable stuff, would’ve been an absolute flogging if we kicked better in the first and they didn’t get some flukey ones.

We dominated them all day and should’ve been further up at the half. Max really wanted to beat Grundy today, another huge effort from the big fella but Koz gets the 3 votes. Too quick, too good all day.

AJ had the fumbles but managed to create a few goals by hitting bodies, reckon he stays in.

Hopefully Lever’s ankle is ok, looked like he tweaked it late. Spargo out (concussion), Viney in (concussion).

Spargs passed the HIA test apparently.

That’s great! Was not confident. Hope Langford is ok, too. Copped a solid knock.

I'm not shocked when I see KP play like that. Although I should be, as he could have had eight goals. He is a superstar of the game now. Worth the price of a ticket.

But I'm more happy seeing players like Oliver and Bowey playing their best again.

Salem too, to a lesser degree.

I think Sparrow is getting better. He plays well in the forward line and should spend more time there. He applies a lot of pressure and on a day like today needed for his accuracy.

I thought May was Ok. Didn't kill it and Lever was obviously rusty. But Turner is now our best tall defender.

Tracca had a good day in his 200 th and showed his brilliance in the last. He has explosive acceleration off the mark. Still struggles like Max to kick goals. Although when they did today, they were crucial.

Fritta showed some flair so that is another improving. Young Lindsay was solid and Sharp came on and strutted his stuff.

AJ struggled but came very good in the last. He's not pretty to watch but he gives it a red hot go with a lot of mass coming at his opponents.

Who else?.....Shame on me...Max of course. But like Kozzie he's just always on. Well more so in my opinion . I think if Langdon played more consistently he could be there with those two. Supreme running and skills from him today. Uncanny awareness of his teammates locations. Melksham continues to bother coaches. He's a hard player to cover.

But most of all, I loved the love the blokes had towards one another.

Sydney may have looked poor but it's only because we pressured them relentlessly today forcing errors, self doubt and a constant quest to go backwards or for the safety of the boundary line.

At the end of the day with our wayward goal kicking, it was in fact a massacre. And we are well and truly heading for the eight if we keep this up.

Next week we are in the heart of this great country where I expect Kozzie to go to even further heights.

I said earlier today there was a pulse again in this team. I was wrong, it's more like a geisher of spirit and determination. Footy has gotten great again.

Essendon’s pick is now at 8 and sliding and they don’t have Lindsay. Suck eggs!

There’s no way they get someone better than him this year. We’ve already won that swap.

Can there be such a thing as a 'life ride'? I would happily watch any club do better just to see Essendon suffer in the draft, but it is truly sweet when it is us.

I guess you could call it a 'resurrection ride'.

Just finished my shower hence the late post. A great game all round. I know Sydney were playing below form but our guys were brilliant. Even with the fumbles and mistakes we still dominated and regained possession. Best game I’ve seen Kozzie play for sure. Trac had a really blinder too. Loved seeing Max beat Grundy. Glad Clarry is starting to regain form. Looking forward to the saints game. Won’t go as I’ve had a few bad experiences with their fans, but will definitely be watching it.

Well done boys ♥️

That’s good news, but as we saw with Viney it’s not always the end of the story. Looked a solid bump, would expect 2-3 for Mills

Anyone know the expected score?

dees - 125.7 + 3 rushed (128.7)

swans - 62.3 + 1 rushed (63.3)

score is missing the swans last behind, so realistically swans xscore is probably 65-66

What will people complain about in the comments section now then?

I thought we were generous to pass the yipps onto Sydney in the final quarter instead of hogging them all day but I must protest the iffy 50 m penalties that gave them 25 percent of their goal tally.

I'll tip my hat to Goody, couldn't see this a month ago. Great coaching job to turn the season around

I'll openly confess I called for his head.

I'll go to confession this week.

You are correct, aside from resting Tmac he made a fine selection and has turned out mob around from cellar dwellers to contenders.

It's hard to keep a lid on this excitement but if we win next week, I'll even go to Mass.

Great call on petty.

I sat with a mate and his son in the forward pocket at the punt road end, one row back from the fence.

That's the first time I've sat on the fence at an AFL gamec in so long i cant even remember the last time- maybe the 1981 grand final.

So for half the match I had a close up view of petts. His work rate and physicality against McCartin was unbelievable.

McCartin is a beast, must have 10kg on petts, but petts didn't give him an inch. So important, one to deny intercept marks and two get tge ball to ground for koz and the gang.

Thanks for this really important observation.

I love him so much. Great game.

Guts and Determination.

His season high tackle count is 9.

He had 8 at half time, and 12 at the end.

Answered his critics today and credit to Goody for maintaining his confidence in him.

Great day out at the G. Great win and great performance other than our goal kicking

Big guns starting to find form, we have real rhythm in our game now.

I liked Petty's game. selfless and determined.

I'm not sure at all about AJ. Maybe creating chaos is enough but he has no skills at all.

Melks is like a fine wine. Gets better with age

Kossie very good, Clarry best game of the year, Bowey excellent and Maxy a beast as per usual

the season is well and truly alive

Go dees

We are officially back in the hunt!

The boys have their confidence back and look like they really believe.

I really like our defensive rolling maul. We seems to be holding up the play with the occasional out the back goal in recent weeks.

The big test will be on Kings Birthday.

Sydney is very lucky that wasn't a 20+ goal belting. They were equally as bad as we were good

This is actually totally incorrect. Their pressure was over 220 for the entire first half - that is something very rarely done. They totally came to play.

They were a bit impotent up forward without amartey, but Heeney and Warner both fired at different times and they still played dangerous footy through the corridor.

Of all the things going well (and there are a lot ATM), I am absolutely thrilled with the full ground defensive application and intent. We are fighting for every inch, desperate on defence, all the time at any spot on the ground. Goody always said that would unlock our attack - certainly did today. It does result in messy shots - but the weight of numbers usually eventually tells.

I will say we had a very kind umpiring performance - but it's not really important. It was probably a 3-4 goal favourable umpiring performance (really), but we missed at least 3-4 absolute gimmes you'd kick 8 times out of 10 anyway.

I know there were 13 goals kicked in that final term but it went for 40 minutes. There's been discussions about it but I'm finding these quarters are going way to long.

From memory every quarter was over 32minutes

AJ had 5 or 6 direct goal assists today caused entirely by chaos. Same impact as good as 4-5 lace out target hit ups.

His skill level will need to improve long term - that can come as he gets comfortable with the level and the speed. As a big man effectively playing 2nd ruck, his ability to compete and defend is far far more important than being able to kick straight

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
