kossie and trac missed from about 10-15 out in front of goal

plenty of gettable shots missed besides. from memory 3-4 from approx 45m out in front of goal

you may be right overall about our half forwards but they were not the reason we lost today

its really not the goal kicking. Kozz no score and a Sharp snap aside we just take way too many low quality shots from wide and outside 40.

But the second half especially was a parade of bombing it in then taking awful shot after awful shot.

The more we miss the more pressure builds on the next guy

Look, this bit I agree with strongly.

There was a moment in the third where we really needed to keep working the ball around the ground to get the best shot on goal.

We switched into the corridor and nothing came, so it was chipped to Lever, who should have kept chipping, but instead bombed it long to a 2 vs 1 in St Kilda's favour. They took essentially an uncontested intercept mark.

I thought Lever was a liability today except for that intercept mark he took off the centre clearance at the start of the second or third quarter.

He was routinely outmuscled by small forwards.

As to our other leaders, Clarry went back to blindly bombing it by the last quarter.

On the good side, Trac was solid today at handballing or going short.

Our leaders have to get this long bombing out of their game though. We haven't seen it for 7 weeks, but as the game worn on it became worse and worse.

2 games and 20% outside the eight. Having lost games to North, St Kilda, Essendon already. Collingwood next. Season is dead, even though the club can't admit it. You leave yourself 0 wriggle room for the kind of [censored] we pulled today when you start 0-5, likewise the last quarter against Hawthorn. First time since 2019 we go into QB with our season essentially over.

we can;t afford to lose anymore than 3 games. tough game against the pies next week. crows and suns away to come

its not over yet but the fat lady is starting to clear her throat

So you think we only lose 3 games from here? Which games?

I think we can win enough games to make finals, yes.

There are more than enough historical examples to not rule us out. As I've already noted, Hawthorn were 5-7 with a percentage of 86.7 last year at the same time.

In fact, Hawthorn ended up being 8-8, with a percentage of 94.2 at Round 17 last year. They finished with a percentage of 118.5.

We had a bad day in the Alice, just as we did against GWS in Round 16 of 2023, kicking 5.15 that day and then coming out and winning the next week with a very straight 12.7.

We're not dead yet.

How are we going to win those games when our efficiency at goal is not even 20% or 15% (for inside 50 conversion)?

We can do all the best work around the ground but if our players can't kick 25 m out in Front of the goal square... We are cooked!

I had a glimmer of hope after last week and thought that maybe we had seen some light at the end of the tunnel.

That tunnel has now been shut tightly for good this year. No chance at all.

Use it as a development year if we have too. Get games into Adams, Tholstrup, Jefferson, Sestan if we have too.

We’re done. No question.

Yep definately

As of June 1, 2025, the Melbourne Demons' efficiency per inside 50 is an area where they are struggling.

Based on available statistics for the 2025 season:

* Scores Per Inside 50: Melbourne averages 43.8 scores per inside 50. This is lower than the AFL average of 45.2, and significantly lower than their opponents' average of 52.0. This indicates that when they get the ball inside their attacking 50, they are not converting those opportunities into scores as effectively as other teams, and their opponents are much more efficient against them.

* Goals Per Inside 50: They are converting only 14.6% of their inside 50s into goals, whereas the AFL average is 24.1%, and their opponents are converting at 26.0%. This highlights a particular inefficiency in converting inside 50s into majors.

* Marks Inside 50: Melbourne averages 8 marks inside 50 per game, while their opponents average 14. This suggests they are not taking enough contested marks in their forward line, which impacts their scoring efficiency.

The Demons have been described as "wasteful" and suffering from "inaccuracy in front of goal" in recent matches, which aligns with these statistics. Their inability to convert inside 50 entries into scores has been a contributing factor to some of their losses in the 2025 season.

Lol mate, you are king of the flip-flops.

You had it slammed shut at Round 3 too, and then it miraculously opened itself the last fortnight.

Must have missed part the part where I said last week that whilst I still dont think we make finals, I dont think we'll go down without a fight.

Did you miss that part did you?

We just don't have enough wriggle room after the 0-5 start. We're now up to 7 losses and basically need to go 8-3 in our last 11.

Need to go 3-1 over the next 4 weeks to realistically have a shot. That means beat Port and then only drop 1 of GC away, Adelaide away and Pies.

Stuffed!! Cremate the body and prepare for 2026

Anyone who doesn’t think we are dead after today I commend your optimism and I wish I had that but for me we are no chance.

The biggest thing for me is we will more than likely lose another match / matches that we should win from poor kicking. Combined with matches we just won’t be good enough to win, no way we can win enough games from here.

You're avoiding the question. Did the game style work the last two weeks?

After our terrible start, I can cop missing the 8. It will be Onwards to next season as we continue to develop and evolve

But I won't cop giving the Bombers a pick any higher than the one we're currently coughing up.

Which has far less to do with XL or the draft crop, and more to do with pride!

May’s first quarter was genuinely disgusting, along with Pickett’s rubbish play on he set the tone for the Saints getting in the game and a match winning lead with his complete disregard for Keeler.

Watch the relays of several goals and it’s clear May is the one who’s either sagging off or sitting forward in no man’s land.

He played a very good 3/4s after that but his work rate at times is just abysmal and he then blames everyone else.

Lever certainly wasn't much help and was bought back way too soon. Simple selection mistakes. Like Laurie.

It was hard to find anyone yesterday that stood out. Aside from to the poor kicking at goal in the last ten mins still only three goals down, we threw in the towel.

ElDiablo - those are such damning numbers for a professional sports team. And they are not new. Season after season we produce similar numbers. Cost us as shot at a flag 2022 and 2023, and a shot at at least finals again this year.

Is there nobody ay our club with the brains or the authority to address this, year after year? If not can we search for someone who can, or are we just going to meekly roll over yet again?

It is really quite depressing to see so much waste.

Ps

I really wouldn't be surprised if we bounce back next week and are at least competitive against the pies.

Not saying we will win but it's the MFC way.

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
