I've said it before and I'll say it again, when the vast majority of supporters agree with Goodwin et al that Melksham is an immediate inclusion under every circumstance, you know your list is still a way off.

I didn't think this was a finals team at the start of the year. I don't think it's a finals team now.

People focus on his shortcomings far too much and dont appreciate how elite (all time elite) he actually is at creating goals. We could do with a bit of that I reckon.

I reckon Melksham showed why the vast majority of supporters and coaches might think that way today.

It's a faint heart beat but it's there. And if we can sneak into the 8, I bet no one will want to play us.

    This could end up the 2nd best thread on demonland since an unknown poster got pics of Clarry returning to training last pre-season

    So media darlings, Hawthorn, were 3-7 with a worse percentage after this round and made a Semi Final.

    The players have started to believe in the system and back in their team mates. There'll be ups and downs this year, but the overall trajectory, IMV, will be upward.

    And the main point? There's plenty of time left in this season. We're not dead yet.

    Further signs of improvement today, still lots to work on but we are definitely going in the right direction. Swans and Saints in the next couple of weeks both absolutely winnable. Hope we gain a lot of self belief after today and hopefully we can improve our goal kicking with some confidence. I am looking forward to seeing if we can do it.

    The boys showed that they aren’t finished, what a great game coming from 23 points down at the 17 minute mark of the 2nd qtr at the Gabba if you don’t mind.

    Ya, Melksham is so good with ball in hand, a rose amongst the thorns. Even his left foot kick to Langdon in the last was incredible.

    Not to be negative, as underrated as Melksham is, Windsor is way overrated as a kick. He was below average last year and his clangers per disposal is too high for a backman.

    He reminds me of a golfer who plays a great shot with a great swing and everyone thinks wow, this kid is good but im reality his short game and mid iron game is nowhere near the level to be considered elite. . (And he shanks it way too often). Its hard to tell how he did defensively without being there. Id be interested in what others think. Get him out of the backline its not his position, although it does free Rivers up etc etc.

    He's got heaps of talent, we dont want his career stalling.

    we are 4 points and percentage from top 8. Still a lot to play out and our draw will get a bit harder.

    Swans are plum for the picking next week with McInerny and Amarty almost guaranteed to get at least a week suspension and Aaron Francis with concussion. They are not super critical to their team but it does give us a real height advantage up forward.

    Not big on what ifs, but if he plays in 2023 finals series, we beat Collingwood and potentially make the grand final. Underrated player in terms of defensive impact.

    Good. But instead let's focus on whatever's left of the season. 12th next week? Off the top of your head can you remember last year's round 11 ladder or Melbourne's exact position at that stage year in year out?

    Windsor can come out of defence by leaving Turner in his place and playing Windsor as a wing / HF

    i'm just glad there's life in the season. nothing worse than floundering at the foot of the ladder with nothing to look forward to except the draft and trade period

    great win yesterday but we need to frank this form now and go on and beat the swans and saints. do that and kings birthday will be a blockbuster

    Apologies to the OP here.

    He's seen and understood things I clearly haven't and is correct in his belief we are still a chance.

    I officially wrote us off after after the hope I had from three on the trot, was dashed by our Hawks loss. Which I believe we really should have won.

    Perhaps he predicted our best is better than the reigning premiers on their own turf.

    Clearly Melksham made the difference in our forward line.

    A problem that has been nagging us for many seasons.

    We are still a long way from making finals but yesterday certainly sent a message to other clubs and myself that we are still in it.

    Take those out and the game wouldn't have been close at all.

    We are still are a mess up forward, with that amount of pressure yesterday, we should have won by 4-5 goals.

    I am not talking about the opposition here, the forward structure is still a mess.

    When Fritta came on with the angry pills it improved, but 4.8 is still such a waste of energy

    Much work still to be done

    If we beat Sydney and St.Kilda we can be 6-6 and around 10th at King's Birthday (assuming other results lol)
    Beat Collingwood and that's a fairly substantial block of games to get the season back on track

      Round 11, the second week of The Sir Doug Nicholls Round, kicks off on Thursday night with the Cats hosting the Bulldogs at Kardinia Park. Geelong will be looking to to continue their decade long dominance over the Bulldogs, while the Dogs aim to take another big scalp as they surge up the ladder. On Friday night it's he Dreamtime at the 'G clash between Essendon and Richmond. The Bombers will want to avoid another embarrassing performance against a lowly side whilst the Tigers will be keen to avenge a disappointing loss to the Kangaroos. Saturday footy kicks off as the Blues face the Giants in a pivotal clash for both clubs. Carlton need to turn around their up and down season while GWS will be eager to bounce back and reassert themselves as a September threat. At twilight sees the Hawks taking on the Lions at the G. Hawthorn need to cement themselves in the Top 4 but they’ll need to be at their best to challenge a Brisbane side eager to respond after last week’s crushing loss to the Dees on their home turf. The first of the Saturday night double headers opens with North Melbourne up against the high-flying Magpies. The Roos will need a near-perfect performance to trouble a Collingwood side sitting atop the ladder.

      The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

      The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
