JVR to defence. Turner forward . Windsor on the wing . Langdon forward . Kentfield and Sestan in to replace Howes and Fritsch . Oliver to be sub. (don't think he wants to place for us anymore).

For Casey never ever play Fullarton and Jefferson again in the the forward line, they had their chances but failed to capitalise . I would rather see AC play forward / Ruck, Verall could also do the same as an interchange player. AJ to play forward pocket. Henderson mid field. I don't actually care what happens to Fritsch in a football sense as he seemingly cannot tackle.

I still believe Goody is the wrong person to coach the Dees and that includes the coaching staff.

Reward form from vfl

AJ.

Milkshake back in

Petty

Sestan and Laurie are interesting

I’m dropping Fritsch

Yeah if we’re rewarding form, Laurie should definitely be in. I don’t think he’ll become a stalwart of our senior side, but his VFL form has been fantastic. I wouldn’t be opposed to swapping him and Tholstrup.

Why do you want to ruin our defence. If you must try JVR in defence do it at Casey. Why stuff up the senior team.

It's now all about 2026 and bedding in fitness and game plan.

Out:

May, anyone in his kind of form with his lack of mobility and inability to put any pace on the ball needs to have time called.

Fritsch, Lazy and can't even kick straight atm.

Tholstrup, I like him but he needs to find more form than he's currently showing. Are we really giving games to guys who bring good energy, isn't that a prerequisite?

In:

Laurie, last last last chance saloon, he just might like the new game plan

Brown, If you want run, endeavour and a guy who can stick a tackle then surely he's due a chance.

Petty, goes without saying.

Personally other than finding a backup for Max and making sure we keep Kozz I think we have the talent. We need to unlock JVR and find a Melksham replacement for next year, although I could see him going again. I'd also like a fitness coach who has the team running out last quarters or is it a confidence thing or both. Sure looks like a fitness issue to me.

Never thought I would say this, Jefferson makes Petty and Turner look fantastic. Now that is down grading both. They are good players.

We are seeing a couple who should now be traded while they have some value. It's time to let Clarry go, too many problems between his ears. The competition has worked out Fritz. Will never be the player he was in 22.

2025 is all about laying the groundwork for 2026.

Post 2026 Gawn will be getting slower and May and TMac plus Melksham will be gone.

It seems that most like the gameplan but it requires refinement plus a few more easy avenues to goal.

Realistically 2026 is the last chance for a while.

Time to move some pieces on the chess board and see what we have. Let's not run Max into the ground for a middling end to 2025.

From Casey I'd look at Bonner for the mid season draft. He's a link player which is the type you need for the modern game.

Sestan and Adams are worthy of a look but other than K Brown who is not setting the world alight at Casey I'm not seeing much talent at Casey. Our AFL players often rank behind the Casey listed players which is not a great sign.

I'd be rotating our first and second year talent so they get a rest say one week in four. Laurie can fill in and be given one last chance. Perhaps use the sub position to manage game time for May and Gawn. I can't think of one instance this year where our sub has impacted using the traditional "quick" player.

Might also be wise to manage Tracc into 2026. That injury was horrific and he's obviously not the same player.

As the song says.... Gimme Hope Joanna (aka Goody)

Jefferson zero impact, vfl until another preseason and hopefully that helps.

Petty in.

Tholstrup’ out bit of a headless chook, but week prior did a few good things, more VFL time hopefully will help.

Melksham in.

I would play Turner forward with instructions to lead/lead and lead again. Petty back!

Fritsch as sub!

Lions are a high kick high mark team but gets lots of inside 50s also, so its not like they chip it around. Just so great in transition, lead the league in scores from d50. I despise Zorko intensely but hes an absolute weapon. He needs to be tagged. Coaches giving him 20 uncontested possessions is utter madnesss. Collingwood kept him quiet and they got flogged. Problem is they are stacked through the middle also now after being gifted father sons. Must be nice as a recruiter to not have to do anything. Cannot see us getting within 8 goals. It would be so random to win this but i guess thats afl these days. As for changes. Who really gives a rats anymore. Its not like it will make a diffierence. Goodwin is a decent coach imo but he has no idea about where to play his players. So happy we have langford and lindsay otherwise the depression would be next level!

It’s unbelievable how bad the umpires are, bad kicking by our pathetic forwards Fritsch, Jefferson and JVR and the pathetic umps screwed what should have been a good win over a top team. ‘Disco’ Turner should be down forward, maybe Harvey HFF and Trac kicking more goals, Jefferson can’t play again, Fritsch dropped for a month, JVR down back. Brisbane will probably beat us but if we play like we did yesterday for first 3 quarters we might be in it, if we kick straight we could win it but we’ll probably get beaten!

Laurie will suit the new game style we are playing. Think he will be a lot better than he has been in the past. I'd like to see him get a go, and notbas sub.

Which skills do you think he'll complement the current side with? I'm not being a smartarse, just interested.

I’m with you that I’d like to see him get a full game, given four of his six games last year were as the sub. However, he seems like one of those players that can’t bridge the gap in tempo and skills from the VFL to the AFL. It’s not necessarily too late for him to come on, but I think the chances of that occurring are diminishing.

Ideally I’d like to see him used as a linking player on transition kicking into the forward 50, I think he could really suit that role (in a similar fashion to Bowey).

read on the afl app that berry got subbed off with a head clash, anyone watching the game was it bad enough for him to miss next week or be ruled out w concussion?

unsure about Jeffo to never play again.

just look at the Kings - they have taken what five seasons to come good?

I reckon we need to give Jeffo another season.

Jeffo will play again, but both Kings were almost immediate guns.

Ben kicked 17 in his first season, 25 in his second and 48 in his third, playing in very ordinary Suns' sides.

Max missed the entirety of his first season with an ACL, but kicked 22 in his second season and 38 in his third. Again, playing in a ho hum St Kilda side.

Jeffo has shown no such return. Until the second half of last year's VFL season, he looked in distinct trouble.

But not all footballers have linear journeys. The Kings aren't a great example though. I also tend to concur with the view that Jeffo won't make it. Hope I'm wrong.

he is a good user by foot and get into space well, our old game style was very stop start and down the line.

Guys like Bill when they "get and go" are better with ball in hand and make the link up play better. Whilst Sparrow has been ok this year i think this is a part of the game he lacks and gets caught holding the ball up a bit in.

Neale only had 17 disposals and no real impact yesterday. I only saw the second half but it didn’t looked like he was tagged to me. Maybe just out of form. Zorko had 39 at 84% efficiency.

Ashcroft has been in great form over the past few weeks. Id put Milkshake on Zorko and let the Kolt run with Ashcroft if nothing else it will be a good learning experience for him.

Lions will be much better at Gabby but they were pretty average yesterday I thought. North smashed them in clearances.

I was on the Jeffo train, though not in first class like Pickett Fence, but I am worried it is pulling into the station to be replaced by a newer model.

I think Jeffo has this season and if we are still undecided next season, to prove himself.

Hopefully he can have that breakout game which starts him off.

He does need to get more aggressive at the contest, that is a no brainer.

He seems to have the other skills needed to make it.

We will see.

He was pretty good against GWS, real pity he broke his hand the very next week.

Just what we need. A Brisbane desperate to redeem themselves at home after drawing with North.

Berry's a good player who plays well against the Dees, and seems to pop up with a clutch goal against us.

It's something I guess...

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
