Adams not named, emergencies are JVR, Laurie and Howes. I’d think Howes..

Can’t see how we stay $1.45 to win with Clarry and May out. Should still be favourites but getting tighter..

Be 50/50 pretty soon I reckon

(Is Tomlinson available?)

So our key defenders will now be T Mac, Turner and Howes (assume he's in) which is the same set up as the Freo game which is fine.

Petty will be the second ruck which leaves us with literally no tall targets inside 50 when he's rucking. I don't understand this strategy.

The other option is to bring in JVR rather than Howes to give our forward line some height and hope that T Mac and Turner can handle their tall forward line. Waterman is capable of 6 and being chiefly responsible for a West Coast win tomorrow night, make no mistake.

May's becoming rather unreliable from an injury perspective.

Love Maysie but does appear that his body is failing him a little or he's being rushed back. Obviously isn't helped by Lever/Hore also being injured and Petty shifted forward (to some success)

Maybe it's time to test JvR as a swingman as well?

err Maybe don't bomb the ball in long...

Has Howes been confirmed as coming in, if not JVR can play down back with Turner and Tmac for Waterman, Reid and Williams.

Query on that though is does that impact our ball movement if we don’t go with Howes

Yes this make sense. Goodwin said he had Rivers back when Turner went down to add some height. Thing is Rivers found top form so probably didnt want to rush him into the midfield. He'll move in for Oliver. So Turner to half back taking their third tall, rivers to the middle, and Melksham and Fritter have to play as talls.

Don't think Ruvers is an inside mid at all ...at best outside mid where he can run and carry and kick long..Viney better inside mid for Oliver which leaves Rivers to run with Reid and come off him

Will be fascinating to see how we handle Waterman and a huge insight into life without May.

I really like Turner. People forget he has only played 20 games. Over that time his stat line roughly reads 80 marks 160 touches 20 goals. That's playing half games, in and out of the side, injuries, thrown around the line up. But its more or less jvrs first season (and a better stat line than say Josh Treacy's first 20 games).

He's a pretty good forward that plays in front and knows when to double back and lead up. (Jvr instead runs to where the ball is going, not where it should be going imo). But id love to see Turner play on Waterman and win that duel, it would be a huge positive for us for the next few years. If Waterman gives him a bath, so be it but id love to see if Turner is the player I think he could be.

I have always thought Turner is a killer!! I like him forward ..great lead, solid mark and accurate set shot..Way better than JVR in terms of footy smarts...

Leave for the year to build his game, sense of belonging and confidence.

In his first year at Casey, JVR was considered the next big thing for MFC. Like many players who do well at that level, he has failed in the next two seasons (and 45 senior games) to replicate that reserves form. So it is no surprise that he kicked a few last week - Richmond's reserves defense are so far below AFL standard that one should not extrapolate that performance into likely AFL outcomes. You will be disappointed if you do.

I am glad JVR is (currently) not playing tomorrow. He clogs the forward line with his poor running patterns, dropped marks, and slow ground level movements.

I know that is not a popular view but the data over many games bears it out.

THE KISS. Am I the only Demonlander who spotted the influence of the Kolt Kiss?

I thought I was seeing things when ?Chin? kicked a goal and Kolt runs up to him and puckers up. And then late in the game, another pucker up after a goal. (I now finally have access to Watch AFL after the club and Watch AFL handpassed my lack of access between each other like a hot potato, so I can go watch the rest of the Richmond game at my leisure. And watch for those kisses.)

The problem I fear with Roo extends to the whole of our forward 'structure' ( I apply that word hesitantly). Roo burst upon the scene and we could all see the raw talent and for mine that's still pretty well where it sits. A talent, raw, unrefined and problematically underdeveloped.

That is the crux of our dilemma imho. We have no real idea what we're doing in the front arc.

Roo is still essentially playing the same level he was 3 years ago.

I put that fairly at the feet of the FD

Hey, Melbourne based supporters not going to the match ...

Are any of you going to a pub to watch this match? Our match is up against the filth v puddy tatts.

I'd like to go somewhere where I'm with kindred spirits. Suggestions?

PS. In the meantime I'll check with Sporting Globe Richmond. In the past they've shown Demons matches on a big screen. The last time I was there (v Essendon) there were hardly any Dees supporters. Mainly unpleasant Bombers supporters. Not a pleasant experience.

Perhaps, but you can't train dogs to meow.

He lacks the poise, balance and agility required of a FF or CHF...Could he play back ?Maybe but is he fast enough to track a natural forward...with poise balance and agility?

Moore went back after failing as a forward but he has similar athleticism to that of his father.

Maybe JVR could be a second tall back. A spoiler and learn from TMac. Does he read the play well enough to intercept like Lever?

I think they need to look elsewhere for a Key forward..or try Turner for a period..

I would be shocked if they weren't showing our game at Brewmanity, Neita's bar in South Melbourne

Total bollocks.

The data over many games absolutely 100% contradicts your opinion on JVR.

Have you even looked at the data?

Laving aside his poor form.this season, his first two full seasons are the equal of the very best key forwards in the last 30 years, including any playing now (not to mention bestingevery other young key forward playing now).

You can do the research on thst - you'll find a post on mine from last year going thru the data in forensic detail.

Opinions are great - but claiming you have data that supports that view is so on point these days

Yeah nah. He’s young, turned 21 last year. Compare his 2024 to Curnow and McKay’s 2018 (when they turned 21):

JVR avg 10.2 disposals vs Curnow 13.8 and McKay 10.6

Goals 1.4 vs 1.7 and 1.6

Hitouts 4.2 vs 0.1 and 1.9 (he’s had to do more work in the middle than either of the blue baggers did).

Tackles 1.8 vs 2.1 and 1.8

Goal assists 0.3 vs 0.2 and 0.2

DE% 70.6 vs 60.1 and 73.6

Marks i50 1.7 vs 1.9 and 1.7

He’s not far off 2 Coleman medalists at the same stage. Needs to work out his bodywork and footwork..

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
