Think not picking JVR for this game and relentlessly picking Melksham is an indictment on our selection panel. Yet it doesn’t surprise me. Goodwin has his favourites.

INS – Melksham, Turner
OUTS – Oliver (personal), Fullarton (omitted)

Fascinating. No JVR - who gives Maxy a chop out?

YES AGREE AND TRIPLE DOWN ON THIS Clarry is one of the best Dees EVER TO PUL ON A JUMPER. PERIOD!

Happy with the ins,

Jvr needs another couple good weeks against decent opposition.

Now with mcvee back it frees up rivers or Windsor to shift mid. Id get Caleb to the wing and Langford to play majority clarry minutes in the guts

YEP and other reason I want him OUT, OUT OUT!

Let’s hope that’s the last we see of Fullarton

Would prefer Turner back to intercept and Petty fwd/ruck

Petty I'd assume, he's actually not a zero in there.

Well one change makes sense. Assuming Disco back and Rivers into the pivot from Clarry.

The other one? Fritsch and Melksham in the same forwardline and no back up ruck/forward in JVR, Johnson or Campbell. It’s not like they can build form at Casey with no game.

It would have been good to see JVR build on his 5 goals but that'll have to wait until next week because Casey have a bye.

I don't know how playing a 33 year old who isn't in stellar form himself over our most promising key forward makes sense.

Don’t think JVR and Melk were really competing for the same spot.

With our new game plan, I think we need Melk with his great kicking and fast ball movement.

But I am surprised we are going so short up front

Also Tom Mac.

Turner forward or back?

Not a fan of a single key forward and Eagles have a tall forward line.

Rivers presumably gets full midfield minutes

Not if we play Turner forward?

Absolutely staggered that JvR wasn't selected. Wtf

I’m surprised too

possible though we didn’t rate AJ and JVR dominating in a 120 pt smashing. JVR has been poor all year. I don’t him earning his place over a couple of weeks

Would have picked AJ though

Disco

I know I'm being impatient but teams aren't available for view on the MFC or AFL app, nor any other games except for tonight. Anyone else having the same problem?

im not sure the teams are final. The AFL site still has "Full teams to be announced". Some clubs with TBC etc.

Surprised Fritta still in the side, not really.

Surprised Melk in the side, not really.

Surprised no proper back up for Maxy, not really.

Not really surprised by any selection or non selection really. SSDW.

True but then it’s just old mates May and Tom at the back against the tall Eagles

I can hear a hamstring popping already

Max has had a 9 day break, settle down people!!

I’m sure one of Petty, Turner & Tmac will give him a chop out

Wish they could give Laurie a go, would’ve been a good chance with Clarrie out 35 poss last week & 2 goals all be it against very ordinary opposition

Wishing clarry all the best.

Thought we’d get Turner and Laurie in. Little perplexed but go team

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
