Fullarton just has to play this weekend. I know he isn't anything special, but we are crying out for a 200cm forward who can at least bring the ball to ground!

I also think if we aren't going to drop JVR, throw him back for a while as a bit of education playing on other key forwards and keep Petty forward.

B: Bowey May van Rooyen

HB: Salem McDonald Lindsay

C: Windsor Oliver Langdon

HF: Chandler Petty Pickett

F: Fristch Fullarton Viney

R: Gawn Petracca Rivers

Int: Langford Sparrow Spargo Melksham

Sub: Tholstrup

Ins: Fullarton & Tholstrup

Outs: Henderson & Sharp

Petty forward reeks of total desperation!

I reckon have then line up for 1st qtr.. leave exactly same for second... I.e .. don't swap ends 🤣

Spin repeat. Ought confuse the [censored] out of everyone. Might even learn something about suitabilities.... lol

Yeah, silly idea.... because all the good ones are working so well.

We have no master-strokes available.

Will require good old fashioned 4qtr efforts and doing better with the ball... when we have it.

I've watched better Magoos than we're currently offering up.

Go Dees

It's really just to move JVR back for a while to get some confidence back.

JVR would have a better chance of improving were he not be required to relieve Max in the ruck

I agree with that.

I don't know that that can be a given... I.e moving a fwd back. Not everyone is equiped skilwise or mentally to play all over the field.

The way you approach fwd and back is VERY different. As a back it's your job to deny scoring opportunities. The buck stops with you. You are under the pump in a very different way to how you're potentially responsible for scoring as a fwd.

Without being cavalier.. deep down fwds know they aren't expected to goal with every kick. It's almost a get out of jail free situation. Yes , many try. But if you want proof... look at their faces if they miss ( just saying )

If you either stuff up.or simply outplayed as a defender... then just like a Goalie... that's on you.

Some players are much much better either one end of the ground than the other. Some can swing... ( could use more of these ... as resigning matchups during a game in.progress IS an effective way to stem tides etc )

Unless JVR actually has any experience as an effective backman be very careful before putting him there.

He played as a back at junior level.

I'm sure they will stick with him forward, just debating whether they could make the move.

JVR is a very good defender and if Jeffo gets better with more exposure I have no issue with the change being made for both a confidence boost and with a view as long term KPD moving forward

There's plenty of players toiling away in the VFL unrewarded, it's time to get some integrity back at the selection table.

In : Fullarton, Jefferson(if fit)/AJ, McVee(if fit)/Adams, Tholstrup

Out : Henderson, Sparrow, Petty, Melksham

Then maybe that is the move

Petty fwd.. Roo back

Either way both need to improve.

HF - Pickett, Johnson, Turner

F - Fritsch, van Rooyen, Chandler

Freo 40+ is $3.90

I'd reckon Freo by under 40 must be paying a fortune.

Get Bate in. To lighten things a bit I remember a Members Supporters meeting at the Bentleigh Club when that President who went overseas for the first round oversaw the meeting. Such as it was a meeting. Anyway after the meeting he said anyone who wants can chat to me in the bar afterwards. That wasn’t possible as he had surrounding himself at the bar with yes men. One determined supporter fought his way through the mob and said, can we get Bate into the team.

At that stage he hadn’t played a game.

I do wonder if he is carrying something because gong from 78 -> 336 in one season is not explainable even if he is one year older.

I love Viney but few players carry an injury worse than him.

He's had patches like this before where he's suddenly a shadow of his best self and then details of the injury come out. I hope this is another instance because three and a half more years of this as the best he can offer is scary.

A reasonable case can be made for dropping each one.

Henderson, go and work on this. Reasonable start to your career.

Sparrow, go and accumulate kicks in the same role

Petty, just a weeks rest if you fix a few things

Melksham, practice a few of your tricks to get back to your best.

I don’t see it as punishment or anything other than you are not quite where we want / need you to be.

I am sure I’m not alone. In my limited career I was made 19th man in a junior final. One guy didn’t turn up and I got a second chance. I played one of the best games I ever played as I wanted to show my teammates and coach he should t have dropped me.

Simple phycology

OUT: Henderson, Sharp, Spargo, Melksham

IN: Fullarton, Jefferson, McVee, Tholstrup (sub)

Fullarton to provide the ruck chop-out so JVR can play solely as a forward. Four main targets up forward in JVR, Fritsch, Jefferson and Fullarton. With Koz and Chandler as the small forwards. Trac to spend more time in the middle. Windsor to the wing.

B: Petty, May, McVee

HB: Salem, McDonald, Bowey

C: Windsor, Petracca, Langdon

HF: Fritsch, Jefferson, Langford

F: Pickett, JVR, Chandler

R: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

I: Lindsay, Sparrow, Rivers, Fullarton

5 changes at least this week

Ins.

Transition footy with run & run & carry

lock tackles

man-up-in-defence

Lower-eyes-going-inside-50

One grab ball handling

Out.

Slow-chip-chip-chip-turnover

Three bees at the same honeypot

Missed tackles

Forwards standing still waving arms like drowning swimmers

Fumbles and fumbles

Surely we can turn things around!!

We've got too many good players to just bottom out completely.

Perhaps an idea is for the FD to show the players the tapes of our more memorable games (winning highlights obviously)

We are really low on confidence right now but that confidence can return. In a team sense

Petracca coming out and saying he's staying is refreshing. And a real positive

We can beat Freo but we've got to come out switched on

Well this weekend we celebrate the miracle that is the resurrection. An entity given up for dead somehow gets up and walks among us once more.

That's all wonderful for that lot but essentially we're nought but a bunch of Devil worshippers so we've got sfa chance of that happening.

I reckon even if JC was up at FF, between Judas , the Romans and our midfield he'd need another nod to upstairs or he really would starve to death.

I regret to think even an "honourable" loss is several bridges too far this weekend.

I'd just like to see the powers that be concede that nothing is going how they think it ought , and that's on them as much if not more than any and in that frame of mind mix it up. Just get back to some footy basics.

Romans by a march.....

We'll be lucky to get 5,000 people to attend.

I know this prediction above is a joke for Saturday and we'll probably manage to get 20K, but we could genuinely get 5,000 people to the West Coast game at Marvel.

In 2015 we got 8,000 people to a home game against GWS at Marvel, but hope was growing by the week under Paul Roos and we were winning 2 in every 3 weeks that year.

If we're 2-17 and the game is hidden away in the 4:40 Sunday slot, I genuinely fear what the crowd's going to be that day.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
