Wonder if winning the flag has hurt the desire from players. Before we won there was this great feeling of what we could achieve and the hunt for the flag spurred them. Now they have it the desire is perhaps less intense.

Half the problem is players see Salem get the ball and just handball over his head without looking so he takes no contact, Gawn did it too, so players watch two of the more senior guys panic and it sets in.

Chin is prob the only one I would say has shown some growth this year. Most have gone backwards, and some like Salem should be sent to Casey.

And Windsor has struggled a bit because he is not a defender but our super smart coaches belief anyone can play half back, did the same with Salem and he still can’t defend one on one half the time, Fritta back there was a disaster and was Lewis.

There have been too many games over the last few seasons where he’s gotten the ball and I’ve done the whole ‘oh, Tom Sparrow is playing’. He plays ok and has some good games, but isn’t damaging. I doubt his name is mentioned by opposition coaches very often, if at all. Which is what I was saying about him in 2022 with the caveat that he’s still learning the game.

Turning 25 this year.

Fix good tagging job last night

Chandler is the only one who has improved - and he has impressed this grumpy old lady, I didn’t think he had it in him.

The only others are Lindsay & Langford, you can tell they’re made for it, just have to develop.

By playing JVR as the kind-of second ruck the coaches have completely stalled his development as forward. And at the moment it’s really hard to see him going to the level where he becomes a serious forward.

Rivers is another one who is going backwards at a rapid rate. Same will happen to McVee if they persist with the fantasy that he’s a midfielder

And don’t get me started at the Windsor off half back experiment. I understand the logic, but we’ve been given a born wingman, why not allow him to develop there? Problem is not only are we trying to fill a hole off half back, we’ve recruited a few mid sized nothings who can only contribute on the wing (Sharp, Billings).

I've improved a lot, I no longer swear at the T.V or throw my remote at it. My wife thinks Its an improvement!

Yes, but can you play on the wing?

Just put in my DVD for the round 1 2021 game vs the Dockers and Clarrie's body shape completely shocked me. Everyone looked in rock solid shape, but the difference between the sleek red Ferrari and the orange dumptruck we have now sure is a downgrade!

I said it it yesterdays game day thread but it’s genuinely depressing how much Clarry has wrecked his career

I reckon Tom McDonald's doing alright.

But as @Wells 11 said, this question is redundant right now. We're so far off as a collective, it's not surprising that no one looks any good.

Tom McDonald is only just doing alright. He's hot and cold. He started off taking a number of marks in our backline against Geelong and did OK for half a game. When the third and fourth quarters came along, he was beaten very easily by the opposition. This, particularly combined with the exceptionally poor defensive work by Harrison Petty opened the door for Geelong to do as they pleased. So yes, he does OK for a percentage of the time until he doesn.t. IMO he's too slow for the modern game. If you watch a replay of the game against North Melbourne, he wasn't even OK.

Wow. I feel he hasn’t been aware or made aware of how hard it is to stay at the top with fit young, hungry high draft guys going for his scalp.

Um no... but I was a flashy HFF with exquisite skills and lethal kick for goal from anywhere! Long 60 m Torps was my go, barrelled a 65 m torp in the what was The Herald Sun "Sunkick" but still not good enough to win! But thats another story!

Different times.

Went to the game then saw Orb at the Forum when they were doing fully seated gigs because of COVID.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
