A key factor, and i think likely a deal breaker, in any potential tracc trade is his salary.

The article posted above says it's currently 1.7 million a year and going forward doesn't drop below 1.2 million a year.

Tracc is still star and had a good season as evidenced by his bluey result and CD player rating.

But even the biggest tracc fan would concede that his 2025 form was still miles from his very best form and there were few, if any, examples of his ability to turn a game on his head and win it off his own boot.

And I don't think it's unfair to say his injury is still a factor psychologically, which is totally understandable by the way.

À club paying a player 1.2 million a season want AA level output. Tracc wasn't close to that this season.

Sure, he might get back to that level but does a club want to take 1.2 million a year punt on a bloke pushing 30?

Perhaps a gold coast might for the star factor, but even if one of the current top 4 clubs wanted to take that punt one of the reasons those teams are successful is they already have stars on big contracts. How is say the crows going to fit 1.2 million in their salary cap when they are shelling out big coin for Rankin et al.

I guess walker might retire and that would free up some salary cap space, but young guns like Philthorpe are gonna want a big pay rise at some point.

All a long way of saying that realistically if tracc wants to go to a team with a genuine chance of winning a premiership next season he is very likely going to have to take a sizable haircut salary wise.

At this point in his career does he really want to do that?

Lets just say GC offer up pick 6 and Sam Flanders. I've little doubt we'd be on the hook for upto $400K of his salary. I wouldn't expect Tracc would be taking a paycut. I'm actually ok with that as he clearly would prefer to move on or he and his manger could do would Clayton and his just did. To me he's a petulant man child who at his best can destroy a game of football but his bravery his been dented (totally understandably so) but his petulance remains. I'm now fully in the trade him out camp.

Getting excited about a 2nd in b/f is marvellous, unless you take a few steps back consider this is a team that overwhelmingly underachieved. Saying this has relevance as it puts perspective back into play. He went ok.. but there were games where applying a more generic AFL filter they were only so-so. He undoubtedly did well by the coach's metrics and thats what rules the b/f. The overseer of those criteria and assessment is out the door. Take from that what you may.

He's not the match winner he was. I get why that might be, but what is...IS.

In reality I'm pretty ambivalent towards his staying. Clarry for all his faults seems to genuinely want to be a Dee , play well and contribute. I don't see him getting sookilala.

Without doubt King needs to parlay with both and assess. If they stay/stay go/stay stay/go go/go I'm fine with that as I will be thinking discussion has lead to decision and we all move on.

I didn't attend the Bluey but am told appearances can be deceptive and... watch this space. Some eyebrows were raised... others just quietly nodded to selves

Agree totally, if a player wants out then the contract should be void and negotiate with the new club $$ .. we should not have to pay any part of the contract.. very disappointing if he does want out though as he should part of the solution going fwd not jump ship, hopefully King will galvanise the group

100% correct. There are more reasons for Trac to stay on than there were last year. Not saying that a trade is fantasy but definitely less impetus this year than 12 months ago.

As I said in a post a few weeks back... I never really got the love back for Trac after last season, so if he wants to go, then he can go.

Petracca + a bundle of 3rd/4th round picks to GC for Pick 6, Pick 13 and Flanders. It is honestly a win-win in my opinion.

• Gives us another solid look at the draft before the FIGJAMs enter the competition in 2028, plus a good young up-and-comer from them.

• Gives them the game-breaker they need to take them another level, and the bundled late rounders give them currency to get their 3x Top-20 academy picks (2x Top 5).

I keep seeing this line about Trac being ‘open to a range of teams,’ but where has he actually said that? I’ve seen plenty of journos and trade gossip pages run with it, but not a single direct quote from Trac himself.

This is how the cycle works every year — vague leaks from managers or rival clubs get spun into ‘player X wants out,’ then it snowballs until fans start treating it as fact.

Until I hear it from Trac or his management on record, it’s just speculation. And given how the media works, half of this feels more like leverage than reality!
