I didn't watch a minute of the game as I was playing footy today.

What the actual [censored] happened??

Practice game level of intensity displayed, like they had checked out

On the plus side, Langford looks a champion

a team that is confused as to what the game plan is, and doesn't have the player skillset to execute said game plan, got smashed by a team that is well drilled after a decade's dripfeed of top echelon talent being gifted to them

Pretty sure Langford isn’t going to be playing at Casey any more.

Langford worried me all game, I am still on the fence as to whether he can fit in to our midfield machine. He is just that too fluid, too natural and instinctive in his movements and ball use. He needs to fumble more, stop, prop, hesitate and then bomb after ignoring players running past or forward in the clear. But given time he will learn the Melbourne way!

Jeffo one of the few hopes I feel we have at present

The dream is over.

Simon helped take us where I thought I would never seen in my lifetime. So thanks, he has a lot of good character traits but flexibility of mind is not one of them and there seems to be a power vacuum at the Club so he is lost.

As to the future we need to find a way to get say four top 20 draft picks. Now who can we trade to do that?

Umm before I have a great deal of fun making some people here call themselves names.....

Has anyone noticed you can edit other people post when quoting them?

I added to Pickett's post.

I kept it nice.

In a nutshell: substandard skills, zero confidence, no leadership, incredibly slow ball movement, dysfunctional forward line, back line very loose, and worryingly some very frustrated senior players. Coach has clearly lost them.

Everything most of us probably expected.

Careful Dazzle you will be in the frame for selection next week

My ‘trust me bro’ theory - this group know they’ve missed their window & it has infected the mood within club.

If so that's an extremely weak mindset. Both Cats and Pies could've thought they'd missed their windows after 2021 and look what happened.

I feel like our club (supporters and club) is always looking too big picture instead of just worrying about what's in front of them. Forget about dynasties, windows, flags, finals etc etc just worry about winning the next game!

Have the Cats been caught being $5mill over the cap or something CD?

We might need them to lose by 700 to keep us out of the medija!

Ps there is no need for name calling, I know you’re super awesome like Hangman in Top Gun Maverick - you’re good - but that’s just being a bit mean

You’re right: I am good, I’m very good

i go to most games but left just after 3/4 time today as I couldn't watch it any more.

  1. I keep hearing people say that JVR is the next big thing and he is just young and needs time like all tall players. If you watch him carefully his running patterns are all over the place and he rarely leads. Not much credence there. He cannot take a mark - this has been the same for three years. Today's fumbles were comical if they were not so tragic. He is always getting pushed under the ball. He has played 44 games exactly as many as Harry Sheezel for North and which player would you prefer? He Is not AFL standard in my view and persisting with him is wrecking our forward line.

  2. Viney doesn't seem to have much nous - bombs the ball wherever when he actually gets it.

  3. May keeps messing up kicks and was so loose today - this has been a problem for a while.

  4. Jack Billings should not have been drafted.

  5. Matt Rowell obliterated Clayton Oliver today - who tried but was 2 metres too slow. I think his peak has gone.

  6. Fritsch should be dropped and given an ultimatum - put some effort in or never play again.

  7. If there is a game plan it is not detectable from the stands. So the players are either not following the 'plan' or it is dysfunctional or both.

  8. I have thought it was ridiculous extending the senior coach's contract a few years ago. He is inflexible and if there is a plan it is too complex for the skill levels of the players to actually execute. He favours certain players who are not up to it in my view. And I am sick to death of the excuses that are given.

  9. I have been a supporter since childhood - went to the 64 GF. So I have seen a lot. At present, we are a bottom four side and a number of teams that have been down there are passing us by quickly - Adelaide, North, Hawthorn, GC, etc. The coaching staff have wasted the early draft picks that helped us win in 2021. Those players are ageing and seem to be somewhat disinterested by the body language one sees from the stands.

Conclusion: They should gently tell the coach his time is up.

If the Goody’s time is up, who replaces him?

Goodwin presser:

Goodwin still believes Melbourne can recover from a winless start to 2025, but acknowledged the Demons have to fix their fundamentals after being soundly beaten in the contest (-18), clearance (-16) and in territory, losing the inside 50 count by 25.

"We are three weeks in and we acknowledge where we sit right now isn't where we want to be. It's not the level. We need to fix it," Goodwin said.

"We've got to get to work. We acknowledge that we've got too many players at the moment that aren't in the form they need to be in.

"As coaches we need to fix that. We need to help them. We need to get them in form. That's the first step to fixing your fundamentals. You could see the basics of the game weren't to the standard required.

"We got punished by a team playing really strong footy. They look like they are full of confidence and are playing the right way. That's where we want to be. I certainly feel we have the potential to be there."

Sounds like last week. Rinse and repeat Goodwin.

He doesn't mind taking a million from the club though. What a spineless way to give up on the club that made you the star you are.

Did he give up? He almost died. He's in there, seeing the absolutely dysfunctional set up we have in place. He knows, now more than ever, that his career is short. How can you blame him? Just please don't go to the [censored] Pies.

This season reminds me of 2007 when we went into the doldrums for over a decade. I now dread our encounter against WC on May 3rd. Glad I pre booked two overseas trips over the course of the season. I won’t be buying into the WatchAFL app when away.

Same thought I had. We thought our late 20s, early 30s guys still had legs at the beginning of 07. Eerily similar.

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
