Another NICK RIEWOLDT cheap shot

β€œAt the moment, it looks like he (Petracca) is unsure about his own body in that contested situation."

☠️Nick Riewoldt on Christian Petracca

Trac had every right to be protecting himself He had a very intense internal injury and has to be careful!!

In my view, it just looks like he reads the flight of the ball wrong.

Β

Dermie was just as bad at half time on the weekend, suggesting Kossie could get a fine for staging when he got that clip to the head.
They replayed the incident and he repeated there was no contact and he milked it.
Other panel tried to tell him there was bicep/shoulder contact to chin but he wasnt having it.

Petracca is definitely (and understandably) more worried about contact than he used to be.

I've noticed him pull out of a number of contests this year, his injury is still in his mind.

Completely understandable but it does make him a lesser player unfortunately.

He had to have an HIA that took him off the ground when he was on fire. If he was staging it backfired anyway. Brereton is just a complete moron.

How is that a cheap shot? He very carefully worded the statement you quoted, and it is absolutely true. Something hopefully time will mend for Trac, but for now it doesn't look good.

Umpires, media… really, who cares when this club consistently shoots itself in the foot. We can’t be crying about not getting respect when MFC is more prone than any other club to be the laughing stock of the AFL. You reap what you sow.

The amount of times I have seen β€œwasteful Dees” as part of news headlines..

I’m just numb to it all.. Media doesn’t trigger me these days, Melbourne FC does. Almost 10 years and nothing has changed.

I disagree with you here SOMS. He is calling it out. I have noticed it as well and was wondering whether the media were going to catch on. It was only a matter of time. It is understandable i don't think anybody is disputing that.

But it adds to the overall narrative about Trac being unable to get the best out of himself.

Whether time will heal this wound - hard to tell - but 12 months on, it doesn't bode well. He is newly married, probably thinking about having a family so his perspective is (likely) fundamentally altered.

I think we need to look at having him playing a role where he is out of harms way. If he could kick straight, i'd just move him to half back and play a role similar to Rozee. But he is a butcher unfortunately.

How did you come to the conclusion that what he said was a cheap shot? Lol..

Hes not wrong at all nor was Riewoldt getting personal. Didn't call him soft or anything but made a statement that 95% of the AFL population would agree on. I've seen Trac go back with the flight of the ball previously before injury. Clearly hes still got trauma around this and Riewoldt was fine with his argument.

Β

Is it possible the media are constantly getting stuck into us because they have high expectations of us each year and expect a consistency of excellence from this list?

@dazzledavey36 I just don’t think it’s necessary to call it out. Just my opinion. Amongst all the news worthy things for on the weekend, this could’ve been a pass.

I think Tracs kicking (especially kicking inside 50 entries) and his handling/fumbling are bigger concerns for me and worthy of the focus !!

I think 'unsure of his body' is probably the best wording he could have used.

I did notice it and it's very understandable that he's not going to be crashing into packs 100% of the time.

Mind you I have seen the Trac of old many times this year and wondered how he put his body on the line. It's going to take some time to be at full confidence.

the club needs to turn thi into a positive, regain ground with the negativity and remind AFL of its rhetoric.

Something like

The club is more aware than most of the significance of serious injuries. The club has supported recent tribunal impacts and and has certainly made players aware of their responsibilities and duty of care.

We are frustrated, as are many, by the inconsistency that seems apparent and will be doing everything we can to improve ourselves and the game.

The club will be initiating discussion with the AFL, including umpires and tribunal personnel, to clarify our training to ensure techniques are improved. WE will concentrate on tackling and head high contact.

We could again approach Angus to take a role as Concussion ambassador for the club and the league. This is no doubt a sensitive issue but it is a subject about which I am sure he now has a greater knowledge than most.

We can also use this as an opportunity to have umpires appraise why opposition teams seem to receive more latitude than us in many circumstances. I have asked anyone here on Dland with the technical ability to prepare a folio of tackles, holding, dropping 50s etc from our games and compared to other games as well to find out what we are doing wrong in our techniques which is leading to the confusion and frustration in our games. I still think that uis worth doing. I notice the media dose seem to concentrate on on some incidents and ignores the many contradictions . I noticed many times the POrt players pulled the ball into a tackle with no infingement and then Viney gets pinged for the same action FFS.

Petracca has definitely changed the way he plays. There was a moment on the far wing when I think Sparrow scrambled a handball toward Trac through a mill of players. Trac notices movement and hesitates at which point Butters flys through and grabs the ball in front of a flat footed and wary Petracca. I’m all for him not backing into packs but he had to go harder at the ball and contest. It’s a worry.

I wonder if we can use his decent form for a good trade? I certainly think it’s an option.

Not sure about decent form, he's been well down this year. A 30 year old down on form with a massive tail on his contract? We won't get much imo.

I’m not worried about Media Madness, I am more worried about DLand madness, our three highest ranking players in 2025 are Gawn, Oliver and Tracc and by some margin. True Tracc is 13% down on his 2024 form where he was in dominant form prior to his life threatening injury however, all in all he isn’t far off his previous level and now we want to trade him. He was our highest ranking player Vs Pies, WTF are people thinking????

I don't think we should trade Petracca specifically. But I do think we need to seriously look at our list and how we're going to actually mount our next flag tilt. Don't think we can rely on Trac, Oliver and Viney to be the ones kicking the ball inside 50 any more. Gotta find a way to start giving the younger players more responsibility.

Definitely need to make some hard list decisions with some senior players at years end.

Agree we need to continue to strengthen our list but our star players are contracted and still playing good footy, we just have to utilise them better whilst getting games into those player that the FD believe have the talent and desire to make it.

Wtaf, ABC News?

There I was all set for the mildky amusing 'also had an unwanted game-high after hitting the post three times' mention, but no, apparently he's some kind of show pony?

Raising my 'implicitly racist assumption that Indigenous players are talented but lack maturity' eyebrow. I honestly thought that eyebrow could be retired by now.

Moronic assertions IMO

for once he isn’t wrong, i don’t blame him. he will be back to near his best or better next season was never going to this season

McRae on Daicos being tagged: "Watching it back it caught me off guard how much he (Daicos) was getting tackled off the ball early (on King's Birthday). But I think he got some reasonable free kicks in the end to balance that out.”.

Tackled off the ball. [censored] off !!! Langdon corralled and bumped and chased down Daicos so he didn’t get soft disposals under no pressure.

McRae manipulated the media and indirectly the AFL. He’s the chief filth!!!

The AFL gave Geelong an informal warning today after Max Holmes had stern words with on and off field umpires over the standard of officiating on Friday night.

The league reminded the Cats of their expectations re player behaviour. No sanction.

AND NOW WE WILL SEE THIS ACROSS ALL THE FOOTY SHOWS AND THEY WILL RIDICULE HOLMES AS BEING IMMATURE AND DISRESPECTFUL… or won’t they?!?!

There is a statistic going that Brereton instigated more hits than he was the mooted as being the recipient of, so that as a consequence some of his opinions could be somewhat addled.

Yes, I'm afraid the Collingwood Coach doth think that his sheet don't stink, and that he's a little smarter than the lap dog Brown nose that he is.

The consequence of building the Daicos demi God status more and more is only going to bring the little tigger more attention of the unkind kind.

It’s a slow week for news in the AFL and a big 4 club is falling apart…how can we bring Melbourne back into the drama?

What an absolutely shocking β€œreport” this is. A bunch of unnamed sources speculating on why Steven May was frustrated after losing a game by 1 point 3 weeks ago.

Paul Roos interview in there…where he expressly says he has no sense of the May situation…and they still quote him like he does.

Holy hell is the AFL media an embarrassment.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
