Hey I don’t want to put anyone out of a job.

Yet again, McClure references unnamed sources and somehow that gets treated as fact. Meanwhile, Clarry—who's openly battling mental health issues—gets hounded for a response. This isn't journalism; it's harassment. What twisted message does this send? Disclose your struggles publicly, and watch as clowns reporting for TV news bulletins circle anyway, demanding answers while accepting baseless claims without question. Pathetic.

Eagles skipper opens up on the toll that the public scrutiny took on him after his dinner with Hawks coach

TV producers and editors need to rein the hyperbole back and be held accountable.

Or the AFL should put some conditions on the 'accreditations' they give out.

It's amazing we talk about something being "life or death". It worse if it's literal. There are players and commentators and supporters I don't like. But never should anyone ever truly be suffering. Sport is entertainment NOT life and death .... EVER!

So that makes the charges he’s facing not a story? Seriously?!

And don’t give me this BS about the contract. McKay is on equally big money. Allen is the captain of his club.

Clarry can be on 10 million a year, and not get a touch, and it still doesn’t give any journalist the right to hound him relentlessly, when the club has made it abundantly clear that he’s dealing with some personal issues and they asked for his privacy to be respected.

Clarry is a human being before he is a football player that you feel owes you to be fitter or better.

If he was your son or your friend, I’m sure his paycheck would be of no concern to you if he told you he’s struggling.

I know the Clarry story…

It’s up to him to show some responsibility

No you don’t.

And by the way, taking time off to deal with your mental health IS taking responsibility.

So glad Brad Green tweeted his disgust at the journalist who door stopped Clarry & also about journalists treatment of him in general. Also Gary stating basically that the Sam McClure story about Clarry being upset about game time is also not true. I know who I believe ..

Harry McKay, Oscar Allen, Elijah Hollands, take time away for MH. Respectful Silence from the media.

Clayton Oliver does the same and, it's

"Oliver is salty that he wasn't traded".

"He is upset with game time".

"He needs a change of environment ",

"Melbourne should sell him cheap to the cats, because he is the missing link"

And my personal favorite ,from Jay Clark, "Clayton must look at the cats and think what could have been."

And today he gets a doorstop at training

It's actually shameful behavior from the media.

Get him a minder. There would even be volunteers.

I suspect Oliver gets more media coverage for the simple reason that he is, and has been for a long time, a much better player than McKay, Allan and all the others.

As to the idea that Oliver might be upset at playing less game time, I wonder if the journos writing these stories have heard of the concept that correlation doesn't necessarily reflect causation? None of us know why Oliver is being given less game time, but just maybe it relates to Goodwin's tinkering with the gameplan with Goodwin wanting Oliver to play in shorter but more intense bursts.

Not just the Yanks Money laundering premier league and European football also bear some responsibility

Weird. I emailed Brad Green yesterday about the treatment of Clayton in the media and the club should do something about it. Then a few hours later he does his tweet.

Give me a job as the media manager 😅

Well done Nate. The media definitely has problems, and it's not just with us.

What they are primarily fighting at the moment over all facets of (dare isay) the profession, is the ever changing conception of the "tale of the TRUTH". The lower down the rung of ineptitude you go, the lesser talent is more audible. And they just don't bother.

My goodness someone please tell Jay Clark he’s not talented enough to try writing in whatever “style” he thinks this is.

So the question is why is this happening?

Clearly the big clubs are treated somewhat differently.

Someone posted that with the big clubs, good news sells and with the smaller clubs bad news does.

It could be as simple as that.

Brad standing up for Clarry was good, even though he may have done it another way.

He’s a fantasist, I’m not sure if he makes the conversations up in his head from scratch or he actually talks to people and just hears what he wants to hear but he’s completely useless as a news source.. not sure why they employ him.

Brad's intentions were good, just needs to work on his method and delivery.

So just so we're clear.

  1. Player takes time off for mental health

  2. Media write 132 stories about said player

  3. President says leave him alone

  4. Media criticize President for criticizing media

  5. Media then promote Spud's Game, a game aimed at bringing awareness/funds towards mental health.

Got it.

I don't think he needs to change. He wears his heart on his sleeve, I don't mind that from our president. A bit like an Eddie McGuire but without the 'accidental' racism...

Hird has taken a swipe at Green. Personally, I love the response from the president and hope he continues to bat publicly for the club.

I also love how we smartly discredited the Tom Morris Trac speech story to show how grubby these types are.

This is the same James Hird:

James Hird, the former Essendon Football Club player and coach, has been at the center of discussions surrounding media privacy and mental health, particularly following the Essendon supplements saga.

Mental Health Struggles

In a candid interview with AIA Vitality Ambassador Shane Crawford, Hird opened up about his mental health battles, detailing the intense challenges he faced and the steps he took towards recovery. He emphasized the importance of seeking help and the role of support systems in overcoming such struggles.

Hird also revealed that a pivotal moment in his recovery was a phone call to a mental health organization in 2015, which helped him navigate a particularly dark period after his retirement from professional football.

Media Scrutiny and Privacy Concerns

Following a major health scare in 2017, Hird's wife, Tania Hird, publicly pleaded for privacy as he recovered. The media's intense coverage of the incident drew criticism from mental health advocates, who called for more respectful and sensitive reporting.

An article from Monash University further highlighted concerns about invasive reporting, suggesting that such media practices can breach an individual's right to privacy, especially during vulnerable times.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
