Expecting 3-4 a game is tough on a skinny 3rd forward

He has overachieved for years and we are used to it

His efforts and pressure on the other hand are things in his controlย

A player as smart as Fritta should be able to score a goal in each quarterย

He was doing it regularly early in his careerย

The only thing contesting that is basic math and reality.

ย

Look, Fritsch kicked 4 in a GF when the heat was on and helped us win - he is one of the best kicks in the game. But his baked in poor efforts and lazy defensive intent is beginning to overshadow because he is not winning footy in dangerous positions and regularly flubs up any ball he gets that isnโ€™t on a platter.

While we are where we are - Bayley is not in the untouchable class. In an era where we have promised our best player higher standards and accountability - he better pull his finger out quickly or we will Invest in talent that has THAT baked in.

Iโ€™m well aware of his goal kicking. He should have a higher outputย

Who was in charge of the "what they are saying down at......"ย  threads last season?

Pick up your game please.

Fritsch is not the best forward of the past 50 years, clearly. But at what stage do we start laying some blame on Goodwin and the horrible forward structure for his form? Hes never been a guy who puts in a maximum effort defensively. Hes our most natural forward who thrives in space and one on ones which he rarely gets anymore.ย

He kicked 14 goals in the last 12 rounds last year, showed little to no second efforts, defensively he was horrible and on Sunday he was goalless and lacklustre at best. At what point does he get a whack. Iโ€™d give him another 3-4 games to show us he deserves a game.ย

I think this post holds some merit. He's definitely got to be put on notice at some stage.ย

Yes he has heaps in the bank but he really only played half of last year in good touch. I think he may have been injured which would account for the really bad look at times of seeing him just jog after opponents.ย  He didn't seem to tackle too often either. He also goes to ground to easily and he's definitely not a wet weather specialist.ย

But I'm not really sure we have a significant replacement. We definitely don't have anyone really sitting around that is a chance for a Coleman. To be fair to Fritta he's booted quite a few bags. Melksham would probably be the most similar like for like but I'm not sure where he is fitness/ injury wise. He's also pretty long in the tooth( whatever that really means).

That's why I posted the May thread. But not many have agreed with it. Yea sure it's not ideal robbing the backline like we did with Petty. And that was a huge flop. But May is much stronger and has that core strength and we just don't have any forwards like that. Jvr may build more mass but he and Jeffo seem to be the leap and grab as opposed to the stand in the pack and hold them mold. Jvr, Petty and Fritta have always been moved out of position too easily. Although Roo does seem to be getting stronger. Fritta has always had to use his lighter frame with perfect timingย  the odd bump and has kicked so many out the back. He would be suitable on the wing now and then to get him into some form because he seems to be very much a confidence player.ย

We have all be screaming for more fwds to be recruited and it's frustrating to see us rely so much on a handful of defenders. Even small fwds like Kozzie are lacking with Nibbler moving and Chandler doesn't score many anymoreย

My kingdom for a Key 6.6 , 105 keg fwd that is accurate too. One who makes defenders nervously peep behind themselves.

Fritta even seems to have even lost his accuracy. So yea It would be hard to justify him playing like he did Sunday for another month. What's going on with Disco?

Most of our forward line are good set shots - JVR, Fritta, Disco, now Jeffo!

Problem is most of the time it's our mids having the shots at goal!

They have been. But Fritta has fallen down with this lately and Jvr a little bit as well. Disco is very good.

I believe the previous post was saying that four of Fritta's 6 Premiership goals were kicked while the game was on the line.

At the risk of upsetting my friendย ย @Ghostwriter, and a few others, and not disrespecting hs fantastic '21 GF, but I have Bailey F getting 2 more matches to show some form. Something is off, I accept that he has been hindered by injuries for awhile, and this is meant to be his first good pre season in a long time, but I would like to see more endeavour. I was however super pleased with Bowey's game last week, the arc of his kicks were much flatter, I was really worried he'd lost it. And I am firming up on Windsor through the middle before Langdon and Rivers.

Nah that doesnโ€™t upset me at all, M.

Iโ€™m close friends with Pauline Fritsch, i donโ€™t see her as โ€œFrittaโ€™s mum.โ€ We each have a 28yo son and we talk about them to the same degreeโ€ฆ which is not much at all tbh ๐Ÿ˜…

Besides, itโ€™s not as though youโ€™ve called him a spud, in which instance Iโ€™d be angry, but not because heโ€™s Fritta, rather because heโ€™s one of our players. Constructive criticism is a different thing altogether.

Yeah we all did. But when you win by 13 goals it can look somewhat diminished when one kicks 6 goals. However, he had 4 goals in when a GF was to be won and that is something that no one can take from him.

thank you, good thing you don't know my mum, I continually meet strangers when home who tell me, 'oh yes your mum told me all about you' which as a 54yo is disconcerting to say the least.

I might differ here, but the main issue I see with Fritta is he doesn't play with urgency in relation to how much space he has. A couple of times he got the ball close to goal, had the opportunity to handball it off early (to probably a better option) and either got smothered or corralled which means he ends up having to give it off in a rush giving enough time for GWS defenders to close down the receiving handball. A couple of years ago it seemed like he had space/time/goal instinct to forego the handball and slot it through, but he looks slower in his ability to make or execute decisions now.

When has Fritta ever been really strong defensively? His goal consistency was his main attribute, and that is the thing to me that has dried up exposing the weaker aspects of his game. I don't think he has really changed all that much to be honest, just kicking goals on a less consistent basis.

2021 averaged 2.5 goals a game.
2022 averaged 2.3 goals a game.
2023 averaged 2.2 goals a game.
2024 averaged 1.9 goals a game.

His First and Third Quarters are set in Stone in the History of the Club

Superb. I want to see more of itโ€ฆ

If heโ€™s playing in a new position, why is he playing in a new position?

Why not best utilise the player in the position he played where he kicked 59 (2021, 55 (2022) and 55 (2023 if he played all 25 games)? Heโ€™ll be lucky to kick 20 goals if you ย look at how he ended 2024, the Freo praccy game and round 1.

Seeing him chase kicks on the wing isnโ€™t helping anyone.

Bring back that elite ย STAY AT HOME FORWARD that kicked 5 against Sicily last year.

And quite frankly JVR needs a little bit of a nudge to get going. His end to 2024 was also poor. If you get both of these guys hitting the scoreboard, weโ€™ll be a much more dangerous ย team.

If Windsor & AJ are out.

ย

This is what I think theyโ€™ll do.

OUT- Windsor, AJ

IN- Turner, Langford (starting), Billings Sub

Theyโ€™ll use Turner as the 2nd ruck because North use Darling and heโ€™s [censored] useless as a 2nd Ruck.

ย

Personally Iโ€™d drop Howes as well and move Rivers to Half back especially if Windsor is out. Because he is better one on one than Howes and could play on Zurhaar and hurt him the other way, also I wouldnโ€™t be using Bilings as a sub, Iโ€™d be going with Woewoden.

ย

Fritter is just a little out of form at the moment, he'll work through it. Talent doesn't vanish in the space of 12 games.ย

We shouldn't forget that we asked a lot of Bailey last year with a young, undersized forward line. JVR is still learning the traps and has spent chunks of time in the ruck. Often Bailey was the key banana out of the goal square with the no.1 defender on his hammer. We were also in poor form and without Petracca for those last 12 games in 2024.ย

That said, if they are moving him to half forward I'd also question why that's necessary. Fritsch is the perfect medium/tall forward on the 3rd best defender, close to goal IMO.ย

I think Binman might be right from on the pod, maybe Jeffo played Fritters normal role last week? Who's to say if Fritsch played that role he wouldn't have had a bigger goal return than Jefferson?ย
