The Nick Watson coddling and love fest in spite of the quiet game is nauseating.

He wasn't just quiet he got a spanking from Wicks.

this has been a dud fixture since its inception.

It's only made sense as a crowd building exercise to kick off the season, but even then there would be better ways to achieve that purpose.

With opening round here it's lost whatever juice it once had and it's just a random Thursday night game now.

Port to beat pies

north over the dogs

eagles to do GCS

can that be a multi. ????

I’m looking forward to Saturday night’s match - the Centrelink Cup - would love to see Port demolish the Pies.

From 'The Age' just now:

Collingwood premiership star Brayden Maynard was involved in a car accident on Thursday morning.

The Magpies said no one was injured in what football boss Charlie Gardiner described as “an unfortunate accident” involving another car.

Sounds like he drives in much the same manner as he plays football, except he didn't injure anybody this time.  "Unfortunate accident", hey?

All good. It was a driving act. He didn’t expect the other car to change direction. He’ll bring wine and flowers to the other drive tomorrow.

Definitely. Before the introduction of opening round the footy-starved masses looked forward to the Carl vs Rich Thursday night season opener, no matter who they support. It wasn’t so much that it’s Carl or Rich, it’s that it’s footy.

I'm so keen to watch almost any footy but I can't get the interest to watch tonight

Is anyone going to watch?

This game should be tucked away on Sunday at 1pm

I’m surprised it’s not on free-to-air.

Just realised it is. You mustn’t have an antenna, right?

His 2nd accident in a few months. Either he doesn't concentrate or he's a bad driver

A quote from Maynard at the scene

"Bruz car hit other car, make noise"

I wonder if bystanders started up the long Collllliiiinnnnngggwwwooooddd chant or maybe they only use that for when the other driver is lying motionless and unconscious.

Only Lalor and Trainor make the 27 from their draft haul

I’m tipping Lalor to have a Wines-like impact and win the rising star

May need Levi to pull a hammy!

This is going to make the site crash Saturday afternoon....

The ABC news says it was his second such crash in 14 months.

Make a game of tonight’s match so you don’t get bored. Have a shot of tequila every time Carlton kick a goal, you’ll be hammered by quarter time. Then have a sickie tomorrow.

None of the articles say the time Maynard's 'accident' happened.  Last time he crashed his car it was 6.00am.

Is the media protecting that scum species again!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
