All that through the fence??!! Brilliant stuff.

Rehab
Running laps … laps & more laps - Hore, Kentfield, Kolt, McVee & MelkMelk great to see these guys on the move.

Sharps run and second efforts a joy to all ears

Gawn and Campbell both standouts - were they relieving or competing against each other?

Yeah Sharps a powerful runner & he seems so comfortable with his ‘run & carry’ game. Lovely poise to do so at top pace too. He’s firming for a round 1 debut.

Yeah, at centre bounces & around the ground they were. Max got him, but it was a solid contest. Was a period in the 1st where Tom played in the F50, clunked one on Lever & hit the scoreboard.

Hnmm interesting Jeffo ostensibly in the A team but did bugder all?? Hnmm interesting!

Literally.

AJ probably ahead of him tbh. Just like every other Dee’s supporter mate, we’re all hoping Jeffo comes on & hopefully in a big way at some point… just don’t think it will be early on.

Legend @RedLegs23.

Appreciate the update.

It's also interesting the comparison between AJ and Jefferson. When it comes down to a big finals game where the pressure cooker and intensity is incredibly high, you take the guy that will compete and will himself to each contests non stop.

I'd have him round 1 considering it sounds like Turner didn't do much either.

Yeah, that’s the way i see it too. AJ warming & firming.

If he is not playing regular games by mid year it won't happen.

I’m pretty sure Goodwin said, just the other day, that Jefferson will be getting games this year.

The carrot. Keeps him motivated. But ...

Neale Daniher assured us that Chris Lamb had a long future at the club - delisted later that year.

Would much rather Tom Campbell if this latest training report is any guide!

Wouldn't any player improving significantly this year do this? Even if the improvement is just 4 more marks or kicks or clearances per game, but they still play in the same manner, this will improve the sum total of Melbourne's output/success, yes?

I would argue no. Say if Howes has a break out year, he wouldn’t have the impact on the overall output of the team than if JVR dominates. JVR straightens us up, we all know where the ball is going including the small fwds

• Turner looks down on confidence atm - great body work deep in F50 but then drops a sitter. Opportunity missed.

I was hoping Turner would take control and rip up the match sim yesterday.

I don’t recall one training report over summer which Turner was commended, he unfortunately spent at least 2 weeks in rehab and finally his practice match series was very underwhelming aside from 4 goals across the two sets of junk time.

jVR desperately needs another key forward to help him out this year, and I’m not sure Disco is that man to start the year.

With that being said, he’s a tremendous set shot at goal, possibly our best, so he certainly has something to offer the team.

Turner’s talent won’t allow him to ever ‘rip’ any game apart. He is a third tall and if he plays his role - he can make life easier for JVR and keep defenders accountable.

We have to remember this as fans or we risk setting ourselves up for ignorant disappointment.

Agree. I think the aim would be him to average around 1.5 goals a game, so around 35 goals for a season

Fair point about tempering expectations with Turner.

If he’s just the third tall forward that will provide a cameo or 2, who’s the second?

Jefferson isn’t ready, Johnson might just be VFL standard despite an encouraging practice match and, well I can’t think of anyone else. This is where I predict Petty will be a forward as the season evolves.

He might end up one of the recruits of the year

I honestly think that Petty will eventually play a forward role too. It makes a heap of sense. Tmac has demonstrated enough that he’s still good enough to play alongside May & Lever - if Turner cant take his chance in the early rounds, I think Turner position could be strife & Petts will replace him & pair up with JVR.

A fit Petty is a totally different proposition to his output of last year (foot / no pre season & form). He’s 197cm, can clunk a mark & plays with some mongrel.

A lot more confident with JVR & Petts then any other available KPF combination for me. Fritsch will get off the chain if these two play good footy this year.

Well we have Turner who can play back, TMAC and Petty playing back and Adams seems to be progressing as well.

All well stocked for tall backs but we need a key forward. Let's face it, Petty might be the best forward of the backmen.

Great point re: Turner capable of playing back.

As Hawthorn have shown with Sicily, versatility in-game is key and the likes of Petty and Disco can be switched either end in game.

Poses the question doesn’t it?

Given the 3 metre + high chain link fencing, Goody’s love for training behind locked gates and Richo’s security protocols. How was such high quality intel accessed?

Here are the possibilities:

a. Access all areas clearance fell out of Richo’s back pocket in the car park.

b. Identity switch, Operative RL23 feigned a role as Casey Fields janitor.

c. Opportunistically moonlighting whilst on leave from U.N.C.L.E

d. Most likely scenario; gifted amateur with a penchant for surveillance technology.

I’m not sure that there’s any correlation between the two things… a lot changes in the way of club culture over a period of 20(?) years or so. I hope he gets his chance.

…finally onwards to Victor Harbour tommorrow with Mrs. Fence but I will RETURN in a few weeks and continue my training reports!😇

In-laws are from there.
Interesting info about “Victa”.

- spelt Harbor. Was it founded by American sealers from Kangaroo Island? I think they probably just couldn’t spell.

– Also called God‘s waiting room.

– Had the largest colony of Fairy penguins in the world, before influx of New Zealand fur seals wiped them out.

– Great surfing spots all along that coast.

– Most of the largest Great White sharks have been caught or seen around the islands off the coast.

– Be careful PF.

TMcD barely gets a mention  despite being a MFC PREMIERSHIP KPF

The correlation is that coaches say a lot of things…

Finally its come to me..A.J Reminds me of a hybrid version of Donkey Dave Kelly ex no 36 and Chris Woodman ex no 41!

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
