It's insulting that we aren't favourites next week. I rate GWS but they are very bruised atm.

I think we all know where we are heading if we can’t knock off a depleted GWS on our turf (albeit Kozzie out and Green to return)

Yep. After all the noise over the preseason about pushing into a contest. He's in trouble

Just walked in and no replay shown.

What exactly happened?

I’d never predict how any club will go based on the result of the first match.

Thought we were the only team that can't kick straight?

What a goal!

True, but I feel next week’s a statement game against a quality side, and will provide a bit of an insight as to how we measure up this year.

Yeah, it’s huge in terms of where we’re at having had such an incredible preseason and with all the changes (coaches etc.)

No change of Briggs playing next week. he is off to hospital

Collingwoods kicking in perfect conditions has been pathetic

Callaghan will be a star

Nah, I choose to believe that Collingwood are just disappearing into a hole.

Now, we're not a fast team by any means, but at least we often work hard to cover important space and we've got a few kids coming up with a bit of speed. Collingwood are in danger of being ripped open by some of the fast-attacking teams like GWS and Hawthorn.

But, also, yes, round 1 v GWS is going to be a big test to start the season because they are clearly a dangerous unit capable of attacking in ways which bypass our best defensive traits.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
