I feel bad saying this about the kid, but why did Laurie get a three year deal? They probably locked him away on average coin but it's still a list spot. Confusing.

He was called the star of the 2024 pre-season, had senior exposure and no injuries in 2024, and from all reports was fully fit and training well in 2025.

Looking at comparable players in the team for Sunday, we've got two 18 year olds, a VFL player drafted three weeks ago, and second-club player drafted 22 picks after Laurie in the same draft.

Then there's Kozzy, Spargo, Melksham and Billings who should all be available within weeks.

Hasn't shown anything at AFL level and seems a mile off the team this year.

Sunday's forecast suggests rain is most likely before 2 pm. Hopefully very minimal rain after kick off. The temperature is set to drop nicely for a game of footy, so less chance of fatigue for our players.

Kick off?

What is this kick off? 🙂

Anything like when the lights go out? Or after the flag drops or when the referee says play. Asking for a friend.

With Jefferson and Johnson going to be named, I wonder if Daniel Turner misses out? We look top heavy.

Fantastic recruiting has meant we actually have depth now

This will put a rocket under guys like Turner to not just expect to be picked but to earn it

Yeah!

Footy starts with a failed bounce, a whistle, a groan and a throw!

With 6 debutants including 5 rookies it’s quite exciting but also a bit scary did even Richmond play that many rookies

Could we use opening bounce as the term for commencement of proceedings?

That does seem reasonable

It actually took me a minute to realise the term I had used was for a different sport.

But binman said we don’t need to go after Oscar Allen because we have disco

Hahahah..

Concerned about being top heavy, however assume we will run with a mid fwd rotation along with Henderson inside our F50 and someone is getting a defensive forward role on Taylor. To win this we need to

Win the midfield battle

Break even at least in the ground ball game inside our F50

Limit their defensive run and rebound

Lets go Dees

B: Lever, May, Bowey

HB: Salem, Petty, Howes

C: Langdon, Petracca, Windsor

HF: Sparrow, Johnson, Viney

F: Fritsch, van Rooyen, Chandler

FOLL: Gawn, Oliver, Rivers

IC: Jefferson, Henderson, Lindsay, Langford

SUB: Sharp

Pretty good team. 3 tall backs, 3 tall forwards, one ruck.  Good balance

I think we need Sharp's run so I would put one of the others as the sub

Bedford to Trac?

Clarry to get the 3 votes on the wet track

Yeah, so you pick out an ordinary performance from 2023??? Yeah right🤮

this must be a record - 6 debutants in an existing side in R1.

This speaks to the idea of change in the club, faith shown in the recruits and a chance for us to be very different than last year.

it comes with risk, but having 1/4 of the squad new, having Ollie and Trac back, is exciting stuff.

good luck to all the newbies and Go DEES!

That explains things  I think Disco has a really good competitive edge and a beautiful set shot so I was very surprised he was left out.

Too many Disco biscuits?

not enough Disco naps?

Sorry

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
