GAMEDAY: Practice Match vs Fremantle

I'm sick to death of our do-nothing forwards. Langdon had a free (mark?) on the 50 and NO-ONE made a lead calling for the ball . They just waited for the bomb (and our forwards never clunk marks). They HAVE to lead.

One thing teams will do homework on with some of our CBD work is Gawn stepping over the line and left hand tapping to 3o’clock position with sweeper running onto ground ball, ok when it works but leaves us very vulnerable out the front

Pretty off Lever. Doesn't do anything.

Chandler likewise, I've been a defender but has has a very hum ho pre season

Just not sure what we are doing with our backline structure but Lever has to be played to his strengths or he’s just not good. He has to trust his skills to provide something in attack too.

Dirty day for anyone deep forward but 2 poor outings for Chin and he hasn’t looked fully fit. The dribbling kicks around the body that don’t get off the ground are very confusing.

I’d like to see Chandler at half forward more and Sparrow deeper.

And can we please never look to pass to Billings in fwd 50

Have never seen a worse kick for goal in my life - you can just chalk it up for a behind every time

jack billings i actually think is a decent enough footballer who tries pretty hard, but by gee he has zero goal sense

I think Lindsay has been better than Langford

Could possibly be better in the first year, particularly in regards to where he may play

Our set shot kicking has been putrid.

Since 2022 I am afraid.

A Lever decisive switch sets up a goal (even if it goes messy on the wing)

Did we actually practice goal kicking in the offseason!!

Looks like our forwards will struggle again this season but who would have picked that. Rinse and repeat.

It’s not so much lack of goal sense as a psychological illness.

Goals per inside 50 - 17%

Not going to win a lot of games like this.

Why play Gawn!!??

Match practice I suppose?

johnson has competed hard and deserves his goal

AJ is a battler and has deserved a spot for round one.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
