I’m hearing Ricky Mentha has been flying and is a massive chance to be in the side early in the season

Now that would be a bolter. We could have quite a draft class on our hands in Mentha comes on.

He was very good today. Seems to have developed his motor, and is now always on the move. Sure by foot and focused.

Langdon played in the centre, alongside Clarry and Langford (could be an ANB substitute), got plenty of forward possessions.

Ed Langdon in the ANB role is promising. Has the tank, speed and smarts to fill the role. Don't know enough yet about Langford.

Leave Caleb on a wing and find another two way runner with a tank - Sharp?

I went to the club’s team photo shoot this afternoon and, as I was approaching AAMI Park, I spotted Andy Moniz-Wakefield on a run. He didn’t look at all inconvenienced and later took his place in the team photo.

Apologies to Luker Kentfield but I didn’t think to look for him in the team shoot but it happened so quickly 🙄. Hopefully, someone else like @Ghostwriter might have noticed 😀.

Thanks to all now if Training is at Slithera Park Friday I'm half a chance to be there, does anyone know?? Ghosty??

Yeah it’s at Casey but as usual it’s a “closed” session.

Nope, Kentfield was not there.

Luker wasn’t at training, nor was he in the team photo.

Andy was at training though. He walked over from the rooms with Koz.

I think Caleb is playing out of the backline. I haven't seen him starting on the wing in the sims yet.

I was impressed with Lindsay in the wing position.

Sharp definitely has the tank and speed. My worry is, does he get enough of the ball and can he use it well. A few off kicks/turnovers today.

Then there is Billings, Woewodin, Sparrow, Brown, even Bowey and Rivers.

Our set ups are going to be interesting. Many options, and pressure for positions, especially with Melky, Salem and McAdam doing well in preseason. Mentha is improving, then there is AMW, Laurie and Hore, Johnson and Campbell. Sestan, Jefferson, Adam and Howes also in the mix. I haven't been able to leave many out of the possibilities. We have good depth this year.

Okay, idle speculation but I think Kentfield is off the list and one of the three train on will be selected in the draft.  My pick would be Roy George.

Other observations. Sestan worked very well off half back, he's a very good kick. McAdam was a star in a lot of the drills.  If he stays fit we have something.  At one stage Windsor had the ball running to goal.  Lingers decided to run him down. Did manage it despite Duke going at 85%.  Windsor and Kossie, as Scoop said, stand out with their physical attributes.

Roy George continues to impress.  Does some special things.  I was on his bandwagon at the end of last season but I am now.  He's got some special attributes.

I disagree with WW.  The match sims are not all that physical.  It's tackle with care and little contact in the air but Tmac might have a word with JvR.

Addition: had a long chat with Kingy, was really approachable and happy to talk.  He's a big fan of Windsor going back "because you don't get enough of the ball on the wing". He thought as a team we had the greatest highest and lowest variance.  He had a long chat to Trac, I love to know what he thinks now.

That'd be a ruthless decision, have we or any club done this in recent history?

Idle speculation or purely made up rubbish? Seems a wild thing to suggest with “Idle speculation”

Interesting but how would this work? To my knowledge he is not injured and is contracted for the year.

Sadly I think this is the case. He hasn’t been to training in ages and he wasn’t included in the team photo. He wasn’t at the players’ lunch which was after training and before the photo shoot. Roy was at the lunch and while not in the team photo he was there while the photos were being taken.

Did he say that with a sly wink?

Unfortunately, he is so tall and I was in the gutter… I couldn’t make eye contact, his nostrils did flare though!

Any chance that Luker could be in WA for family reasons?

Yes. But why have 3 train ons if you’ve got no spots?  I haven’t seen him since Christmas but he may have been there.

@waynewussell @Scoop Junior @anyonewhowenttotrainingatGoschspaddocktoday… did any of you keep track of numbers of goals scored during the simulations, who was scoring them, and how they were scored?

Signed, an interested interstate nuffy.

They often don’t take the shot, as a new ball is put back into play immediately.

Many thanks to all track watches, in some ways best time of the year, everyone positive, reality later on might be different might not.

Thanks.  Go Dee's

If a spot opened up I believe we would have until Feb 19 to sign someone. This would require Luker and the club to agree to a contract termination I’d imagine. If he’s decided he doesn’t want to continue in Melbourne that could be possible.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
