Bad things happen when ever we play Collingwood. Retirements, Injuries, suspensions, bad losses etc…bummed we play them twice again this year.

I also agree that Kozzy did some dumb stuff in the past, but he was really unlucky that last game and I was furious he got 3 matches.

There was one earlier in the year against the Crows where he got a 1 match ban, I saw Newman do the exact same thing a week or two later and got a fine.

Seemed consistent him on the wing or off a forward flank. Should get a crack in the F50 under the forwards.

A lot of people blaming Darcy Moore and the supposedly anti Melbourne tribunal for the latest unlucky decision against Kozzie. At the end of the day, since the start of 2023 he will have missed 7 games through suspension including the latest two season openers. When do you stop blaming others and start holding the player accountable for costing his club?

I don't disagree but mcAdam  ain't the replacement IMO.

Yes it’s only 2 mths and 3/4 opportunities for this to be looked at. Please  don’t complain when the season starts if you have any brain waves or explosions. Thankfully our coaches are already purposely looking at this for the Opening Rounds.

I think you're right and that repeat speed is the thing I've been most impressed with. I haven't seen enough of his ability in front of goal but I think there is more than enough there to be a menacing pressure man.

I know it was just a praccy match out at Casey but he snagged a couple of beautys in his first appearance to suggest that goal kicking isn’t foreign to Brown.

Whenever we need a goal to stem the flow, Kozzie can be relied upon to kick a goal from nowhere. Think the miracle win against Brisbane in 2023 when Melksham kicked the winner. But It was Kozzie that kicked the first of the last 4 goals to get us back in the game.

Not a direct replacement but there's certainly a vacancy for McAdam to make up the projected 2 goals a game we miss out from Kozzie.

The plan this year is to not having to rely on small mercurial forwards having to win a lot of games this year, but more orthodox willing participants to all play their roles.

Let's see what happens.

I had hopes Bowie might be tried out, but going by training reports, doesnt seem to have been in the forward line at all.

IMO it could be Langford. While they are completely different heights, Langford offers the dual clearance/forward option in the same way Kozzie has been training this preseason.

Langford will be replacing Sparrow. Sparrow will need to improve to replace someone else. Kozzie can’t be replaced. McAdam has his future in his hands but that feels a long shot to me. Maybe Johnson gets his moment with Perry back. Has Johnson been training with the forwards?

In the past two years we’ve been linked to Nick Watson (we tried to trade up to draft him), Isaac Kako (would have bid on him had Essendon not traded us pick 9) and Joe Berry (I think pick 9 was a few spots too high to draft him, especially with Lindsay still on the board)

Personally I think another genuine small forward is our number one priority come trade and draft time

Since Kozzie has been used in the middle quite a bit  we seem to be lacking  in small forwards.

I thought Chandler was going to be a gold mine of goals when he started but he's more of a dynamic kind of flanker than a goalsneak.

In any event Chandler hasn't really maintained the very high standards he set in his early games.

Spargo has been reasonably consistent in this position but was played in different roles at times and that combined with injuries has seen him wanting in his earlier capacity.

Anb has done well as a goalsneak but he too has been used , rightly I might add, in different roles. Gee we will miss him.

McAdam while not really a type that would play this role hasn't really performed in any.

Young Brown looks the goods but again the club has failed somewhat in solving another forward line issue.

Given that Petty has really struggled to clunk marks, a successful crumber has been greatly missed.

I wonder if it's worth rolling the dice with Bowey but probably a case of robbing Peter.....

But the role of crumbing has become very important in the modern game and we seem to have come up short of shorts. Pun intended.

i would argue it's less the role of 'crumbing' and more the role of 'defensive / offensive running'

the nominal small forward - and really they can be any size these days - is so much about getting up and down the ground and being the transition player into f50 from a defensive position into an offensive one

I think we have done fairly well in this department. Certainly in our premier year, it played a huge part.

Particularly our half backs.

But from our fullbacks too who are obviously not small in stature. 

But in the traditional sense of "goalsneaking" and the simple accumulation of our score, we have been and are now lacking . 

Looking at our flag year, shows a number of small players that contributed significantly in scoring in the role of crumbing around players like, Jackson, Tmac and Max...we had Kozzie, Sparticus, Nibbler and stretching to Langers, addingl  around 90 sausage rolls.

Fritta is an interesting player in that he can play a high flying tall and a small crumbing goalsneak.

Kozzie was the main contributing player so if he's out there's not much left. 

I'll put Tracc in the same category as Fritta who is no slouch in kicking a few from out of nowhere.

We are in total agreement PF. On top of a small number of forward involvements he contributes nothing defensively. IMO he is the worst trade this decade.
