I hope he stays because it will be hard to get full value for him. He’s always been kinda understated and has had a poor year, so a first rounder is way out of the question. I’ve always been a believer that a proven quantity like McVee is much more valuable than a crappy second rounder that will be pushed out ten more spots on the night. That’s the best we could get too.

I hope you're right, its round 20 though, surely if he wanted to stay he would've just signed by now ?

Not necessarily. I don’t know when it will be announced, all I know for sure is that he’s not leaving the MFC.

I still think he'll stay if the stories are on here are true that he has a local girl and is enjoying his time in Melbourne.

The local girl is Lily Johnson, who wears 33 in Melbourne's AFLW team.

Who I think is Tasmanian?

Twomey said his partner is an Adelaide girl, and that those two clubs as well as the two WA ones are interested

Twomey’s wrong 😶

Yes, but she's very happy in and at Melbourne. She was beaming last week at the season launch.

And she now has a sponsor 😉 which makes both her and Judd extra happy.

As it is our 2nd round pick would currently be 24, which looks alright, but will probably blow out to early 30's on draft night.

Lily, a Tasmanian, was on the Pt Adelaide list.

I suspect Twomey read the label and not the list of contents!

Not only is AMW smaller then Hibberd but he is more suited to the dangerous smalls such as Charlie Cameron, Rankine, Nick Watson, Willie Rioli types. He'd match them for speed and aggression.

Hibberd had a good blend of being able to play on the smalls but could also sit on Dusty Martin, Patrick Dangerfield or a Toby Greene because he had strength and frame to able to match it with those bigger bodied type meduim forwards.

I see AMW as a Mathew Whelan type lock down defender who would play on the likes of Stephen Milne and Jeff Farmer types.

Twice this year we've had Cam Zurhaar get hold of us simply because we had no decent match up on him. Kind of player that Hibberd would have easily locked down on.

Fully agree - Hibbo & AMW are totally different types.

Hibbo was quick enough for the smalls but was physical & aggressive enough for big bodied fwds.

In any case AMW has shown potential but is a long way off being a regular player.

Trust folks! We never announce contract extensions off losses. Our next win is when I would expect news regarding his extension. That is, if we can win another game.

Have never seen us extend a player after a loss, it just is not the "timing".

Only other scenario I can see if he plays a cracker in an honourable loss, maybe they extend as we are running out of time to get that win on the board.

Pick “24” would likely blow out to pick 35 or 36 on draft night.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
