Surely we can secure p12 ourselves by giving them a later pick back.

Maybe our 2nd rounder plus Judd could net us 12? I don’t think so though…

Maybe. Hopefully that threat is real.

It's a real part of negotiations, but not much more than that.

Second rounder is all we're going to get. We may make them sweat a little to signal our displeasure, but everyone knows how this will play out.

DOCKERS LOOK TO SHUFFLE PICKS FOR MCVEE

FREMANTLE has started conversations with Melbourne on a move for wantaway defender Judd McVee, with the club open to moving picks around to help facilitate a deal.

The Dockers are currently due to start the draft with picks No.12 and 33, though McVee's value is expected to fall somewhere in between those initial selections.

But Fremantle is exploring ways to shuffle its top picks in order to satisfy Melbourne in a trade, after McVee requested a move late last month following almost 18 months spent weighing up a call on his future.

We can help there, give us 12 and we'll give you McVee and the Spargo compensation pick

I wonder if they’ll look at swapping their 12 with someone like Essendon to get 20 and 26 or with WC for similar picks and then we get whatever 20s pick

McVee should be grateful if we send him to the PSD, WC are probably closer to a flag than Freo anyway.

Take their 1st round pick next year. Better draft and they'll back themselves in.

Death ride #2 !

Have we ever seen a player walked to the draft and not end up at the club they wanted to get to? Nick Stevens maybe but that was a long time ago.

Just think Lamb’s ‘statement’ for Judd/Freo will be to push it to the wire before eventually ending up with a complicated swap of picks plus a 2nd rounder.

  1. Given how worthless 38 is, walking him to the PSD would amount to the same outcome. So in our case may just be an option.

This is where the AFL needs to provide some type of compensation I can’t believe this loophole has not been covered already. Nevertheless we make sure Freo don’t get him and that is worth the sacrifice.

  2. If WC didn’t take him, Richmond or North might and McVee would probably want to avoid that outcome and hence chose to say with us.

  3. Even getting pick 12 doesn’t feel like a victory. I’d rather Freo offer a F1 - I quite enjoyed the Freo death ride in 2024.

2 things

Goodwin played Judd out of position and wasted his talents

McVee is a dashing, rebounding half back flanker, not a lockdown back pocket type

And Freo have almost certainly offered him a better, long-term deal

I don't blame him for wanting out. The behaviour of any number of our senior players wouldn't have helped either

I'm surprised that a few other players haven't wanted out, but that could still happen

I don’t think it’s that bad. Judds departure is just a move back home that was probably accelerated by his time under goody. In all likelihood, it would have eventually happened.

It wasn't all about Goodwin, it's about the whole club. The Board, CEO, Fellow players, President, Football Dept & the Match Committee

Earlier in April (on the Goodwin thread) I went to town about the players being allowed to rule the Roost

A law unto themselves

That type of behaviour can have an effect on those players who want to do the right thing. One answer is don't waste your time and get out

To my way of thinking, the club only has itself to blame, if players want out

Enjoy West Coast and getting Booed for the rest of your career as a lock down defender coz that's all he's good enough to do.

Oh right so does Judd want out because the players rule the roost or is he unhappy with his role?

In my mind it’s fairly obvious that Judd is at least 5th in line for the role he wants at Melbourne and 3/4 ahead of him are similar age in bowey, Windsor and rivers

It’s sad to see the kid leave but if he’s crying because he can’t get his preferred role without earning it by being better than those guys, he’s not a team player in my mind and someone that isn’t going to be part of what the Melbourne footy club is wanting to build.

A player that is going to make the list immediately better (freos words) and be best 23 is straight up worth pick 12 which may become 17-18 in a weak draft.

I agree in principal but it looks like Judd strung the club along all last year. He's not blameless either.

I think we should threaten to walk him to PSD. From the interviews, it sounds like Lamb and co are veru=y disappointed, we don't owe Judd anything. Judd wants to go home, well offer up a good pick or he can go to your rival for nothing

Well if he's unhappy about how he is being used, he could easily string things along

By the way, he copped it sweet all season and played where he was picked .... and has now made a decision to move on

I don't have a problem with that as you only get one career. Let's face it, the club had/has any number of issues so why wouldn't a player (or players) want out?

Judd is talented player with the aspirations and work ethic to do incredibly well. If the club feels misled, his management should take a decent part of the blame. But he’s a young guy, life changes minute to minute at that age.

It still baffles me that @doomsday dee was so convinced his attraction to Freo is for a positional opportunity and yet they spoke yesterday about Judd being a great “lockdown defender”…

Hopefully Freo really do rate him and make offers accordingly

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
