Reading between the lines in threads like this, I completely understand why we ended 2025, a year that held significant promise, with only seven wins. I look forward to entering next year with everyone aligned and committed.

Just like Demonland! 🥳

No clue how he is still managing to get air time in this forum. He's gone. He can go stink it up in the worst looking jumper in the league.

think it’s fair to post in here given losing judd has now made us lose lily?

It’s now official that Eden Zanker, one of our top five players, gun forward, goal-kicker, big-bodied pack-crasher is off to Freo and it immediately gets posted in a Farewell to Judd McVee thread? Because Lily is part of the deal and she’s dating an ex-MFC player? Yeah nah

Edo deserves way more respect than that.

I won't bare a grudge nor abuse past players, but the new nickname Spud McVee is too aesthetically pleasing to pass up. Just Rolls off the tongue! And it's a lot better than 'Chris'

Still prefer Judas McVee

I miss Judd.

When Freo Recruit Made the Call to Leave the Dees (SEN)

“Then, in my final year in 2025 I got halfway through the year and decided to pack up and come home. … Freo presented very well to me, I saw the opportunity and thought I’d definitely take it.”

Probably been said somewhere in the 102 pages, but there wasn't daylight between how him and Jackson, mailed in their performances during their last seasons. I am mightly peeved at losing Zanker though, that burggers up our fwd line no end.

Edo will be sorely missed and not just for her skill and talent. She was a great example for our young forwards to look to and learn from. Edo’s situation is not unlike Nibbler’s in that she doesn’t wanna leave the MFC but her partner wants to go back home.

This player was picked from obscurity and was developed by the MFC into the player he was by a combination of hard work by the club and the player.

I have always believed that players should give the club some semblance of loyalty but we find that players just leave when they want and club gets very little compensation since a player does not stipulate the his original club get well compensated if he is to leave to the new club.

I also believe 4 years at the club is a poor return for the club for the time and effort.

It cuts both ways, because I'm partisan MFC I'm unhappy that McVee has moved, but at the same time I was all for trying to pry Windhager out of the Saints. Then there's the ruthless delisting of Brown and Woewodin, I also support this.

McVee is out of contract end of 2025.

Without being shot down, I have it on pretty good authority that he will be asking to return home/play for West Coast after this contract expires.

I would imagine the club will be trying everything they can to retain Judd - given how good he has been in his first two years in the AFL side. FWIW, Woewodin also put feelers out to WA clubs given limited opportunity/setting record for most games as starting sub last year.

I hope that both of these don't eventuate and would like to think the large contingent of young WA talent will stick together.

@bing181 WCE was smokescreen from my brother...

This rubbish thread just keeps giving.

Should I post in the farewell Clayton Oliver thread just for fun?

From the time he inexcusibly lost his feet vs Carlton in that final in 23 and cost a goal, I came to the realization that he was overated. No loss, PLUS he lied to Ghosty.

I genuinely hope he absolutely stinks it up this year

That final was the most indisciplined game I’d seen us play for years. Still can’t believe we lost it.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
