Melbourne Football Club - The CEO

Featured Replies

Paul Guerra has been selected per Caroline Wilson.

Strong commerce background. Minimal footy.

Most known for going on the news and yapping relentlessly about people coming back to the CBD post Covid

Uninspiring

Why? The job is CEO, not footy boss. The last two CEO’s we’ve had that have had footy backgrounds (Schwab and Pert) have ended up leaving under clouds, despised by the playing group, as they meddled too much in the footy department.

“Alistair Nicholson presented very well, the former Melbourne player who now runs the Coaches’ Association, but my tip is that Paul Guerra will win the role, an Essendon man who will change his colours.”

I assume Guerra is a property guy or has bosses who rely on that income. The only people whinging about office returns are the people that make money from it.

My mate at CBRE has been banging on about it for years and even he only goes 2-3 days a week.

Interesting news if true.

Thanks DannyZ Paul Guera has a pretty good resume CEO Chamber of Commerce, Bachelor of Engineering (1986) and Bachelor of Management (1995) Swinburne, quoted as strong Strategist and strong people coaching skills, also mentioned on Board of MRC. Will watch this space with much interest.

Welcome aboard Jon Lovitz!

This is a good selection. The guy has the right credentials from a business perspective and given our most pressing issues are off field I’d expect him to get it done.

Coincidently I just watched the Hawks YouTube video on their new home base in Dingley and It is world class. We have to throw everything we can at Caulfield it will go a long way in attracting talent to our club in the years to come.

For all that people like to pick fault with Caro, she remains the best in the business with nailing off-field news.

How come the appointment is announced in the media first and not by the club to the members and supporters?

  1. The inherent need for references of the candidate opens the door to leaks.

  2. The AFL approved choice was overlooked and look at who first reported this story.

I went past it the other day and it's as much in the @rse end of nowhere as Casey Fields is. It's location might be OK for players located Bayside but if they plan on playing any VFL / AFWL games or allowing the public in for training days the nearest public transport is miles away.

It’s a training facility first and will be a very good one. Having public transport access is not a priority even if vfl and aflw games are played there.

Caulfield gives us everything we need but will be in the middle of a racetrack.

I wonder if there’s any link between the Beer Awards they have at the Showgrounds (he was CEO of the Show) and David Neitz?

I didn’t love all his media appearances but he at least does get on the front foot and has media connections.

RV board provides sports and how to deal with racing knowledge. Even if RV haven’t been going great to put it mildly.

Anyway, we’ll see. He has to grow our revenue, build Caulfield and oversee some big footy decisions. Tough gig

I mean he's the CEO of the Chamber of COMMERCE.

Of course he's going to campaign to get people back into the Melbourne Central BUSINESS District.

And given recent revelations, his "yapping" about lockdowns are somewhat vindicated. They were completely overblown and unnecessary.

So the AFL approved candidate was Keith Thomas? 🤦

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
