5 and 9 in the draft?!? it's like the good old days hey fellas

EDIT: Surely, Sam Lalor and Harry Armstrong are who we are targeting

Best available always the way to go  but both of those lads might be 3 years away, I suspect one or both picks will be runners ready to play early and help transform the game plan.

Langford or FOS would be nice results for pick 5.

Hynes, Travaglia, Berry, Lindsay at pick 9.

A combination of midfield and flanker run and skills would help us play the way we all want us to play.

I'm hoping we pick up Alix Tauru with pick 9 should we take it into the draft. Tall, aggressive and can play anywhere. I'd happily take him over Armstrong who is rated higher in a couple of phantom drafts.

I’d also love this kid. Mids are available every year. @DeeSpencer thinks he may be gone by then and it’s easy to see why. Was listening to Jade Rawlings on trade radio during the week and he was asked the question regarding pick 2. Do you take a tall or go best available. He responded by saying if we were to take a tall with our first pick we would look to trade trade pick 2 for 2 later picks in the first rd, but if we use pick 2 it would be based on best available, time will tell.

I wonder if there's a way to package later picks to get another top 30 pick between 25 and 30?

I think they love Tauru and everyone knows it.

They also know Richmond and Adelaide are highly unlikely to grab him, and the Eagles probably can’t leave Harley Reid one out in the midfield either.

I’d do 5 and 9 for 2 and North’s future first (if that can get us back in at pick 12-14).

If Dodo was still there I reckon clubs would have been lining up to bid on Kako just to give him the finger after all those years of impossible dealing.

Maybe something with Brisbane for Sharp + 34 with any picks we have left over from the 9 deal? If 28 + 40 go then we only have 49, 54 and 65 - that won't do it.

Essendon somehow don’t have any picks after 31, I’d hope they’d chuck us a bunch of 50’s and 60’s to send to Brisbane for 32/34.

Maybe they chuck us some F3’s and F4’s that we can bring forward and on send

The top 10 in this draft just became even more interesting.

Expectation is the Saints will take 2 mids with 7/8

North could look to swap their pick potentially. would the Saints swap 7/8 for 2 and something else? North would then get Armstrong and Tauru and the Saints get a top end midfield talent in the door.

So much to play out between now and the draft

We probably agreed not to bid on Kako with either 5 or 9 too, that's a big bonus for Essendon.

Not sure that would make sense given there first pick will be 28 are they going to stop every other club bidding to including saints and gc

Our draft motive will be to grab two players that can come in and impact straight away.

I honestly don't think we'll go a tall with our first two picks. I think we'll go mids first and foremost.

One thing to consider with the draft is the uncertainty of both Oliver and Trac next year.

Pick 5 should be in someone like Harvey Langford. 190cm big bodied midfielder who can have some serious impact up forward also.

His game against Gippsland Power where he had 33 disposals and kicked 4 goals was evident that he can be just as dangerous up forward.

I reckon Smillie will be under heavy consideration for pick 9 also if he doesn't get taken by the Tigers at pick 6.

Travalgia may come into consideration  at 9, adds speed, replaces Riv at half back

Best mid available and Armstrong please.

No Tauru is a better prospect not quite as good now but has prospect of a more C factor KP forward.

I say we go with a tall and a mid like we did with Oliver and Weid or Jackson and Pickett, if Oliver and trac left we up [censored] creek anyway and no number of picks now will save us

Exactly, Petty can go down back where he plays his best footy. We need another quality tall fwd.

Why ? Let’s get the first two picks right far more important. Than a pick 30 now.

I think we are looking for 2 gun mids. We have enough list spots dedicated to young talls with JVR, Jefferson, Turner, Verrel, Adams, Howes, Kentfield and Petty (who is 24 but looks 35). A good mix of high talent and rookie prospects.

Comparatively, we only have Windsor and Rivers as elite young mid. Other young mids include Sparrow, Laurie, Taj - not great.

Even if we don’t think Tracc and Clarry are great long term prospects (neither is Kossie or Viney for that matter) I suspect they’ll only go 1 big bodied mid at most because Rivers and Kolt are the best long term mids on the list and we need to compliment that too.

But it’s still JT and Melb so I imagine correctly so the default will be to favour bigger, stronger ball winners. But I wouldn’t bet on Smillie if we get Langford. If we get Langford the next pick will be all about pace, skill and a ball movement player (forward, mid or back).

Mids all the way for mine. We want Petracca forward as often as possible and I'd still prefer Rivers and MCvee off half back.

By the time we trade to get Derksen - who's a tall in any case - plus Sharp, not sure we'll have many lower picks left.
