History lesson - For those too young to remember, Joe stepped in and helped steer the club away from an Ian Ridley and Hassa Mann led attempt to merge the club with Hawthorn. A vote that was rigged in favour of merging by a high level of corporate votes from sponsors etc. And those members who voted yes must still be feeling a little guilty.

[censored], It is clear that our previous presidents prioritise their egos over the club's best interests. Who leaked this chat to the HS? Green or Gutnick? I hope it was not Green. If it was, I would not want him anywhere near the board, let alone the presidency.

History Lesson - Gutnick was willing to switch allegiance and back the merger if the players agreed, according to a later statement made by Ridley.

This is true. Everyone can laugh at him now but he did save the club. He also got Neil Balme sacked as coach and replaced by Neale Daniher, with immediate excellent results.

History Lesson: I think I would trust Ridley's word over Gutnick's anyday. And by the way, I was an anti-merger.

How many times has it been said that he’s pretty much in a caretaker role? He won’t be permanent. Jee whiz

I vote for the Animal Justice party. State and Federal.

Don't get me wrong - whilst I supported at the time and always will support, Joe coming in in '96, I don't want Joe anywhere near the club these days and disagree with every one of his statements he made as a result of his lunch with Green. (except maybe the Goodwin one (although I'm not jewish))

Separation of church/synagogue/mosque and football club, thanks very much.

so joe invites greeny to lunch, does all the talking, then rings up robbo to tell him what he told greeny

greeny should be more careful who he has lunch with.  first lesson for new pres.

Yup, hopefully Green does see this for what it is.  We already have problems with stuff leaking to the press, dont need advise from another snake.

The person who I believe should move on is Gutnick himself - I once supported the bloke but that was 20 years ago. Today, he has zero credibility when it comes to football.

Err, ok, then.

Bizarre that Brad Green would even reach out to Joe or even take the time to sit down and seek advice..

Laughable.

Or get him to pay out the balance of the pledge he made when he became pres?

Both Jewish AND non-Jewish... well, that settles it.

Seriously, I had my doubts about Green having the nous for this position, even in a temporary capacity. This certainly doesn’t settle my nerves.

Gee there's a reason to be concerned that the old boys' club has finally won its way back into influence over the last month. Why is Brad Green meeting with Joe [censored] Gutnik? Is he gonna sit down with each of us amd get our opinions?

Joe has a very interesting history. I wouldn't be taking any advice from him on football matters.

What next ?  Getting Cam Schwab back as an advisor !!

I’m an atheist and all of my atheistic, agnostic, and believer friends, think that Joe has lost the plot.

That irritated me so much I wanted to go on a long rant but the collective effort here is superb.

Joe Gutnik is not a man we want pulling any strings or holding any proxy influence around the club. He used to be 'just a bit' bonkers and his extreme vanity served the club well in a crucial moment, but these days he is absolutely a noxious menace.

I was certainly pro-Joe back in 96 when he and Brian Dixon stopped the merger which would have killed any interest I had in footy altogether.

But now....no....I am not sure how the paper would even publish such a nothing article must be desperate for more "Melbourne in turmoil" content

Back on the topic I agree with Joe on one thing... Goodwin needs to go!

what's next? greeny has a lunch with jeff kennet for advice, duly reported by robbo.

at this rate we won't need the planned reviews 😂

Why would anyone listen to Joe? He fired Neil Balme who went on to have a brilliant career overseeing multiple flags for multiple clubs (not as coach tho). Joe went on as thoroughly discredited businessman. He knows nothing about football. It is bewildering that Brad Green agreed to meet with him.

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
