Does anyone here seriously think Trac will be in red & blue next year?

Too much has occurred and trust will have been broken with the club and playing group with Christian.

The damage is done.

no

No, we absolutely didn’t do that.
We made it publicly known that we would trade him in an effort to get him realize the seriousness of the situation he has put himself in. It was done with his management’s support. Clarry never wanted to leave Melbourne and the club believed that if he thought it might happen, it would force him to make changes. And it worked.
Clarry’s issues were well known to all clubs at that point. Hell most of them were public knowledge too thanks to gutter journalists who saw it fit to wait outside hospitals for him!

That's not my recollection. The club leaked info to the media about Oliver's personal issues as a way to deflect attention from the club when the media was asking "what's going on at Melbourne when a star player on a long term deals may be looking elsewhere". Whether you think it was in his best interests or not it was definitely "tough love" rather than the club wrapping their arms around him.

yet not entirely surprising

connors doesn't put the 'for sale' sign on a player until he's certain of the destination and the cost

that doesn't seem to be the case for petracca

Petracca is literally saying to all the supporters, you mean nothing to me and this club means nothing. My club will still be here in 10 years, Trac won't be. When the price is right, show him the door. Disgusting behaviour from a senior player.

Even if we get 2023 Oliver, or even better, 2018-2022 Oliver, are we going to seriously compete without Trac and without another midfield addition?

If Trac leaves, that IMO only heightens our need to find the best midfielder available.

If we could get McKay and Cerra for example, fully fit prime Clarry and then use pick 5 on a ready made mid that would be enough to at least think about keeping the ball rolling.

We don’t have to be Melbourne 2021 to win the flag the way things are looking this season.

But it’s certainly a very narrow path to keep going without Tracc.

A sub 24 year old star on the rise is the more logical conclusion if we could identify and snag one. Otherwise just pack it in.

How would they hold back from posting? Surely a loud mouth would take the bait.

It would be tough not defending yourself that's for sure, how would Nick Smith be going reading all the comments about himself over the years.

Forgot what journo said it tonight (Sam Edmund), but they said that Connors sports are very big on keeping this kind of stuff in house and are always adamant not to publicly request trade unless certain clubs can do the deals.

It was something along those lines.

Maybe there is some legs to what @Davos said.

This thread is like watching a train wreck happening full of Melbourne supporters

Could play a game of 'hissy fit bingo' from it!

Waiting to read of someone holding their breath until they turn blue, or microwaving a membership (on their phone)

For what it is worth. The article re Trac failing the psyche test at St Kilda is still viewable on Big Footy. The article was written by the well respected late journalist Sam Landsberger (may he R.I.P.)

The headline about it coming back to haunt Trac is true. Alan Richardson was at St Kilda at that time and despite the AFL banning psyche tests they did one verbally. Mc Cartin passed and despite being rated 5 pre draft the Saints went with him. Heaney was considered the best and take at 1 as an academy player. Gus was also highly rated and in the top 3. Note Gus nearly won a Brownlow later on.

I won't go through the entire article it is there for public viewing but the 2 questions that stood out are
"Why did the psych test reveal an eagerness for Petracca to promote himself ahead of teammates? Were there selfish traits?
Petracca seemed to enjoy attention. Would his personality blend in at St Kilda?" there is more but it appears he was very much into self promotion even then

How do you explain a player quoting some things that were said about him on Demonland?

I really don't have to explain anything to you, nor do I believe anything of substance told to you by the players

I for one can see this narrative turning very quickly against Trac.

Whoever is managing this PR disaster for him needs to be sacked.

Maybe when he becomes damaged goods he’ll realize that you don’t [censored] where you eat.

It's the AFL. He knows if he gets his wish and goes to a big club those supporters will embrace him. He'll then do a bunch of media with the compliant boys club to repair his image and by midway through next season no one but Melbourne supporters will care.

Maybe the problem with our culture is that we have too many nice guys in position of power.
Goody, Gawny, Richo, all really nice people who genuinely love every player.

In a high performing environment that can sometimes be a real problem.

Which is why I'd love Todd Viney back to play the bad cop. Not that he isn't a good guy btw...

I’m turning on Trac for turning on our club. Hiding in the shadows is a gutless move. His management are a disgrace and he’s responsible for wounding our club every day he says nothing.

Trac is too gutless to say he wants a trade because of the chance it fails. So he wants to run our club into the ground so we have no other option. Pathetic.

Not sure who’s advising him but very poor look, not discounting what health issues he has but as Lyon said he’s taken a huge contract be part of the solution

Good night all!

You can’t explain it, can you. So you resort to the old I don’t have to explain anything to you thing.

Now Dazzledavey will applaud your post, coz Dazzledavey. Strangest bedfellows ever.

Richmond pick 1 plus another later first round pick.

Kangaroos pick 2 + Duursma

West Coast pick 3 + Future 1st

St kilda pick 4 + Max King

I don't know, just trying to make myself feel better. It's not working and I still don't like most of these deals.

The most obvious one is:

West Coast - Harley Reid.

Caro saying that there was a board meeting going on as Footy Classified went to air. It sounded like that was a snap meeting. If so, that's not the sign of a club who is wholly resolute in the whole "we're not trading him" piece (although that may remain the position following the meeting).

It's the few days when everyone's at the club closing off the season so unless we have more info, I don't know that I'd read too much into this. Could be a meeting to sign off on trade/list management strategy, changes to the FD, who knows.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
