Leaving aside the ridiculous floating fixture, and the complete lack of needing it for round 24...

Anyone know when the afl are likely to release this round? Impossible to plan when it's only 3 weeks away

A couple of weeks ago we were told it would be announced midweek after round 21. So I guess we’ll know on Wednesday.

I reckon our game will be Saturday night or Sunday 3:20pm.

Brisbane V Essendon is my tip for the Friday night and Freo V Port to finish up on Sunday night.

Given we are out of finals contention and I expect the Pies will be too by round 24, I would think we get the Sunday 3:20pm slot.

Is there still a pre-finals bye?

If so, this lack of a last round fixture if a farce

Yes there is

Yes it is

If it's a dead rubber, it would make more sense fo the AFL to give us an old school 1.10/2.10pm Saturday game. No-one will watch the game on TV so Sunday 3.20pm is a waste.

Right now there are three games that will have big ramifications for finals. Every other game involves a team stuck in the bottom 6.

IMO these should get the Friday, Saturday and Sunday slots:

  • Freo vs. Port Friday night (Optus, Friday night)
  • Brisbane vs. Essendon (Gabba, Saturday night)
  • Bulldogs vs. Giants (Marvel, Sunday afternoon)

It appears we’re playing Collingwood on the Friday night.

It will be officially announced tomorrow

Can understand the rationale of a super Sunday, but still odd we get Friday

Once you realise every decision the AFL makes is primarily for the benefit of the TV networks their actions make a lot more sense.

Really hope we put in a decent performance if we’re the Friday night game and everyone’s watching.

Also hope the Pies are mathematically out of it which may make the former more likely.

This game is likely to be a dead rubber - strange that the AFL would allocate prime time for that !

Goddamn I HATE Friday nights.

I am so hoping for the Pies to win the next two and have a chance only for us to snuff it.
Would probably require a Sat game to make it a possibility.

Yes but they’ll be hoping the 8 won’t be settled until the Sunday.

There are two MCG games, the other is Rich v GC.

They don’t want dead rubbers on the Sunday so they had to put one on Saturday and one on Friday night.

The draw, the venues, the timings ... all seems so depressing now ... hope Max is given a well-deserved rest from the responsibilities that he has endured this season. Bring into the team, for the final rounds of the H and A season, all of the cherubs languishing at Casey. It is time to bite the cherry (or it may be the lemon), sack Badloss, re-structure and present an experience pathway for debutants and tenderfoots to the 2025 season. Why not?

Only confirms that the AFL have the fix in to make sure C'wood wins enough preceding games to make that an elimination final for C'wood.  (Yes I am paranoid)

Seriously?

Lions and Bombers made more sense. Freo and Port I understand because you want to keep eyes glued to the TV sets.

I reckon Dogs and Giants could have been a ripper for Fri night at Marvel, seems strange having the Mars agreement for Round 24.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
