For all anyone know maybe Goody isn't even looking to coach us beyond his current deal. Doesn't his new wife and her kids live in Sydney? He could get an assistants gig up there and take over from Dean Cox if things go pear shaped at the swans.

I'd be happy to release him 😉

Win , win

Happy Families

Once again, cherry-picking. You're ignoring all the times when coaches couldn't implement change over a preseason. You need to consider ALL cases, not just the ones that suit your propos.

e.g. Clarkson is a good coach, how come we're yet to see real improvement at North over what now, 3 pre-seasons? And staying with Clarkson, how come he couldn't lift Hawthorn when they started to fall in 2019? He had 3 pre-seasons, yet they went backwards across 2019 - 2021, a trend that Mitchell then took another 3 pre-seasons to turn around. Through that Hawthorn had 5 or 6 pre-seasons yet stagnated in the lower reaches of the ladder the whole time.

And in regards to all this, you only have to look at the almost teams like Essendon or St Kilda with their revolving doors of coaches and endless, endless pre-seasons for no real substantive improvement or progress.

etc. etc.

Can you stop with this loser mentality please Bing….

We have been in the same rut for 4 years now and you are suggesting that we just keep doing the same ship next year and probably the year after that.

Because it’s all too hard.

Try learning an operating System on a Computer 30 years ago in 2 weeks to run a National TV Program

When you have to change, you just do it, because there is no choice

To think this list cannot score efficiently after 4 years is actually a disgrace considering the coin everybody is on.

Goodwin and his assistants cannot get the list 100% on board is the basic answer,

we the Members have actually been very patient, although some of us picked the fault a long time ago

If we go into next year with the same old system, we won’t have 40,000 members…

Think about it….

Left field but get Stevie Johnson down in some capacity.
Let's start with forward line coach.
Coached Yarrawonga to a flag in 2023.
Lost GF by 3pts in '24.

Currently has his team sitting 2nd in the Geelong league.

FWIW. We are losing games this year even with more inside 50s and more scoring shots. We can argue till the cows come home about whether it is the backs, mids, forwards or on baller who are culpable, but the fact remains that this has been going on for years and years and we have a coach and coaching panel who cannot fix it.

Time for a change. Head coach, assistant coaches or boot studder. It does not matter - there must be serious change. If Goody can't show us he can fix it, then he might have to go.

Sad but true.

Yep ON YER BIKES, the whole damn lot!

All of this talk about changing coach must be making Kossie a bit nervous; particularly if one of Trac or Oliver (or both) were to be traded out for picks. These are the people who he has a good relationship with, and it was those relationships that probably played no small part in getting him across the line.

How would he feel having just signed a 9 year deal, only to lose the people that he felt closest to? I hope that if things do head down that path, that it doesn’t have a detrimental affect on his game next year. I understand that such decisions must be made for the betterment of the club, and I know they’re supposed to be professionals and would be expected to cope with such events, and yes, I know that one player cannot be bigger

Leaving that aside none of that means a change isn’t the right move

What would it take for you to be convinced?

No. "Logic" suggests that you have to look at ALL factors, not just "the current regime".

But heh, at the end of the day the human brain is lazy and would prefer easy answers (which is why fools like Trump get elected), and "the current regime" is as easy as it gets when it comes to scapegoating.

No, the lazy thing is to do nothing, paralysis through indecision. Continue doing the same thing and expecting a different result, sure to work 🙄

Yeah nah.

I'm an ex Yarrawonga boy and still have many contacts there through mates and family. He may have won them a premiership but he was incredibly toxic off field.

Club was glad to see the back of him.

Wasn't well liked at Sydney either. Guy is a grub.

I work with a bloke whos son plays for Yarra, gets to most home games and had abit to do with Johnson while at the club.
He's never had a bad word but I'll ask about this scuttlebutt when I see him monday.

Great insight

What this highlights is the difficulty in identifying a good coach,

Many on here suggesting Longmire,Buckley and Simpson based on their media performances. It’s not difficult to review footage select clips and impress the masses with knowledge.

Let’s select Johnson because he was a gun player, Jordan Lewis what exactly has he done to suggest he wants to coach, I’d have thought he’s firmly entrenched in the media.

Mail I have is Skipworth is probably the next cab off the rank as ready to take a senior gig, it’s a tough gig but there are lots of variables and don’t kid yourself that timing and back room stability isn’t a major impact on field

I’m not sure McRae would be an instant success without Nick Daicos (an absolute game changer) coming in and Maguire moving on

Geelong are a very strong club off field and I rate Scott as the best coach going around but he had many detractors for years saying he inherited a Premiership team but couldn’t get it done on his own.

Unless we finish horrifically I’m not keen on moving him without a list change up. Like some of our kids coming through and want some tough decisions made re some senior players

We have 9 games left

If we win 5 of those and increase our% by just 5 I'll go he..but I'll concede Simon might have made a case for staying on.

I'm not a fan. I'll make that gambit.

Who on the converse will sign his papers eos if we don't??

Also helps if you can flip farms to attract top line free agents every few years.
I'm sure we'd look a different outfit with Dangerfield, Cameron and now Smith running around.
Not a bad lifestyle over that side of the bay playing on a home ground paid for by taxpayers.

I don’t buy the farm thing, just like I don’t blame umpires, we as Aussies have a shocking habit of finding excuses and laying the blame as to why we lost or didn’t get a player etc.

Cats are fortunate they are outside of Melbourne and provide a great lifestyle which many would love. They have turned their club around through Cook, Costa and Wells. Add to that a gun coach and unique ground and your halfway there.

We need to identify how we control our destiny and brand moving forward. I don’t look on the two straight sets losses as others do, to me it’s part of being up in the 8 for a decent stint and starting again in September. 2022 we were cooked come September but I felt in 2023 we were firing just before September and we’re in it up to our necks until Petty, Melksham and Brayshaw were ruled out.

Unlike the Pre Roos era we have Kings birthday (post big freeze) and Anzac Eve which provide opportunities for players to play on the big stage.

Get a settled board, maintain the 2 blockbuster games and be regular finals side for 4 to 5 years at a time and we’ll be fine in attracting/maintaining players and being a good club

I think this and the management of the club have been bigger issues than many on here think.

...the club has been run this year by an interim President and interim CEO.

Not sure how this has been allowed to happen.

Members had a vote in December last year. 4 out of 8 directors were up. We made a choice.

shouldn’t effect the Football Department at all.

The Club has been running smoothly with the interim positions.

The Football Department has not given 100% performances, that has been laid bare, and because of it we are sitting in the Bottom 4

The evidence is there. No smoking guns.

Stephen Smith and Paul Guerra will be leaders at the end of the season.

Do you really think the players when they line up for a goal are thinking about this??

To be honest I don’t know what our forwards and on ballers go think? It’s not conducive to our effort as evidenced again in 2025. I to jink it’s mainly mental but some players may just be shizen [censored] for goal and should be moved on if no shrink can help.

Fritta still has some gremlins and isn’t as good as 2/3 years ago with his accuracy. But many miss far to often the simple shots and we need to revise where our forwards lead to solve this problem.

The way the new nomination system works is massively skewed to the incumbents board members, there wasn't much of a chance of that vote changing anything.

Mine either

till members in large numbers participate in these votes we will get mediocrity

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
