I started posting fairly recently but for the last several days I have been debating just deleting my account.

I joined and started posted because I thought having this community was very cool and talking Dees is great fun—especially for someone like me who doesn’t have many other Dees supporters to talk to in their life.

But Ghostwriter is right—I’ve come to really hate the constant negativity—especially when directed at people trying to be positive or at least not so cynical.

I get that we’re not winning and that’s unpleasant for all of us, but that’s not why I don’t want to engage anymore—in fact, losing kind of makes me want to engage/discuss with the community even more.

I still love the training reports from Ghostwriter and others and love the actual analysis from Adam the God, Binman and several others.

But the number of people who come here to be angry and incessantly negative and shout down anyone who doesn’t feel the same way is pretty unpleasant.

When I come here I often leave feeling wayyy more negative about the MFC and that’s a weird feeling to get when talking to folks who are supposed to love this club.

There’s an ignore button for posters that get on your nerves. Just don’t engage with them. Works for me.

Would it truly be home to Melbourne supporters without “suffocating negativity” Even I’m prone to it from time to time. As for bitchiness compared to other online forums we’re incredibly friendly and considerate for the most part. Anyway I’m an addict so I have to come here. Oh the pain!

I take issue with all three of your sentences:

Just because the negativity was worse in the past doesn’t mean it’s acceptable now.

Negativity may be in your DNA and that of many others on here but it’s not the case for everyone.

I’m not trying to change anything. I simply replied to a question about the reasons for the significant drop in engagement on this site.

The only part of your post that doesn’t bother me is being called Sweet Summer Child which is actually very cool even if the intention was condescension 🤷‍♀️

It sucks that we’re back to being easy eats, the media don’t rate us, opposition don’t rate, we’re mediocre at best, we’re back to 2014,15 & 16, the era is over, and Goodwin should go, he’s had 4 years to sort out forward line and has blown it.

DIT - Mate I speak as a loyal 50 year supporter.

Our Supporters are angry because we have wasted a golden opportunity to grab 2 or 3 flags.

Our weakness is that we have too many supporters who are enablers & make excuses (God bless you Ghosty) & blindly support the coaches & administrators regardless of their performance & results.

I hate Collingwood with a passion but their supporters don't put up with poor results - they demand success otherwise they riot - and good on them. They demand success or else whereas our supporters just make excuses.

There wasn’t a lot of nuance to his post. The fact a percentage of our supporters aren’t rabid ferals who’s only joy is football isn’t why we didn’t win multiple flags and you know that. I get the frustration but flags are hard to win.

Winning flags isn't an "opportunity", it's a herculean task where you need everything, every little thing, to go right. Geelong and Swans (in particular) have been "up" or thereabouts for a decade or more, and have 1 flag to show for it (Geelong 2022).

This "we should have won 2 or 3 flags" is just entitled self-indulgence.

(Though I can tell you in two words why we didn't win in 2023: Angus Brayshaw. We were never coming back from that. It was a hammer blow to the players and club that we still haven't really recovered from.)

I’m not going to pretend I can recite all of CF’s posts verbatim, but if you’re suggesting he’s putting blame on supporters for not winning flags, from the post I quoted, I think that’s off the mark. TBH I assumed it was a point that the poster has made previously; but I’m assuming now your inference is drawn from the quoted post.

If the poster has made that explicit point previously, then no, I don’t agree with that as I said above.

But if you’re claiming that’s what it is being suggested, I disagree entirely with your take on it. I don’t even see that as an implied notion; the post relates to not accepting mediocrity and demanding performance and success.

I will actually say if your take on CF’s post is correct, and what I’ve inferred isn’t, then I do agree with you; supporters aren’t the reason we didn’t win another flag.
