Second-rounder at best.

His body has continued to let him down which has seen him underperform since '21.

I still think he'd be a game changer for us if he was able to bullet-proof his body and have consecutive uninterrupted full seasons.

I think we would struggle to get a second rounder for him. It’s been a while since he has put a string of really good games together.

I would love to see him have some luck and a massive pre season and help us get back up the ladder.

This is it. My hope too.

So you want Houston and 2 top 10 picks this year? That sounds great to me, can you run through how we’re pulling that off?

No, I've moved on from Houston.

Wouldn't say no if we could get him with a future 1st in 2025 or 2026, but it sounds like it's over.

I have as well. I think he’ll cost overs. I’m all for the 2 top 10 picks. I’m guessing future firsts and a solid player will be required to snare the second of those, don’t see a player on our list to pull that off.

Our future should be able to get a late first round of Brisbane for it.
Given the evenness of this draft I’d be delighted with a top 10 and late first round pick with one or two picks a bit later where hopefully JT can find another gem.

Why is it that a Future 1st round picks seems like less somehow than a 1st round pick in this years draft?

Is it the optimist in us that we'll finish higher next year? (50-50 prospect imo)

Or we know more about this years draft and are invested?

Or we want players and results sooner?

Anyway, I'll leave you with that thought-provoker.

You're welcome

Agree but I also like the sugar hit that two same year early draft picks can give to a team.

Little doubt that the 2019 draft was a big contributor to our 2021 success

I don’t really care what happens from here aside from no serious injuries

BUT I do want to beat the Pies in the last round to knock them out of finals. If they win tonight they’ll be a good chance

Pies won't make the finals.

A couple of months ago we were looking at pick 14.

Now Pick 6 is likely so it’s not all bad news

we don't have that many 'kids' who aren't playing in the seniors already

in the vfl last round:

  • jefferson - will probably debut this week
  • adams - looks a long way off it
  • verrall - looks a long way off it
  • sestan - not consistent enough at vfl to warrant afl selection
  • pup brown - probably next in line for a call-up
  • kentfield - looks a long way off it
  • farris-white - not ready for vfl let alone afl

would love to see el jefe given a solid run for the next 3 games in the seniors, and pup brown should be there too

if sestan has one really good game in the vfl, would be great to see him debut for mfc next week

Gosh that's stark when it's listed like that.

I actually haven't given up on McAdam or Fullarton being playable, but even then, this is a worrying lack of depth.

My ladder predictor has literally 0 finals in VIC for week 1.

I'm surprised the media hasn't picked up on the likely absence of finals in Melbourne.

Grand final aside it's quite possible that there will only be one

Other silver lining of a lower finish is an easier draw next year. Helped a lot in 21.

While we are out of the running the top 8 is far from set.

image.png.4eeaccdd6aa085fe9cc293dcc0e1b077.png

The biggest loser from since round 18 is Carlton; from second to 9th.

Lots of permutations.

Even Syd can fall from top spot.

Sadly it looks like Geelong will end up top 2.

Depending what happens with Hawth and Carlton the possibility raised in the op, of needing 14 games to make the 8 can eventuate.

Anyone care to predict the grand finalists ...

It's actually (ridiculously!) possible that 14 wins misses:

  1. Brisbane wins at least one (14.5+)
  2. Fremantle wins both (14.5)
  3. Dogs win both (14)
  4. GWS therefore loses both (14)
  5. Hawthorn wins both (14)
  6. Carlton wins both (14)

The lowest percentage of GWS, the Dogs, Hawthorn and Carlton would then miss (currently that's Carlton, 1.1% behind Hawthorn).

Imagine if Carlton miss despite going 14-9...

Meanwhile, also ridiculously, 13-10 might be enough to get in:

  1. Fremantle loses both (12.5)
  2. Carlton loses both (12)
  3. Essendon loses at least one (11.5 or 12.5)
  4. (could be worse if Hawthorn or the Dogs don't win again)

In that latter scenario, Collingwood make finals if they win both. We'd also have remained in the running had we won on Saturday (and our percentage would be irrelevant).

Repeat of the 2022 GF?

With respect to us, I'd imagine the club won't be pouring all its energies into climbing from 13th to 11th/12th due to the three group fixture structure (1-6, 7-12, 13-18)

GWS v Dogs and Freo v Port/GWS are the real shapers

Carlton could easily replace the Dogs and GWS could miss if they lose to Freo and the Dogs

Similarly Freo are vulnerable

Of course if Carlton lose to the Eagles this weekend the 8 is fixed other than its order

Definitely worth bearing in mind.

Our fixture this year has ended up being brutal from a repeat match perspective: Brisbane, Port, Dogs and Fremantle, along with Collingwood (and West Coast).

The minimum six games against North, Richmond, St Kilda, Adelaide, GC and Essendon.

GC, by comparison, has had 8 games against this crop - and they're one of them! They've squandered one of the all time easiest fixtures this year.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie
