What a turnaround from 24 years ago.

Aside from the 'scoreboard cosmetics' at the end for Essendon, that felt like a win for the system, the belief in the system and youth of the team.

The older crew would be mighty pleased.

I can't empahasise what the 'lived experience' ofย  more experienced teammates (say, Lever, May, Viney etc) watching younger players being able to execute roles in adverse circumstances (no Petracca, Gawn etc) and challenging conditions, means to the belief in the system in of itself as well as the trust that my teammate can deliver most of the time.

The flow on, is you're not second guessing execution or decision making of yourself or your teammate, leading to more cohesive transitions, more insynch defending, and greater opportunity in the forward line.

Not the you need confidence to win or perform well (*checks Demonland forum over past week about the match), and it simply makes it easier to do so.

This bodes well for next year, if you're the sort of supporter that likes to look at the bigger picture.

Any weekend where we win while Pies and Dons lose is perfection so Happy Sunday everyone.

Clever selections and in game coaching moves to take advantage of the conditions and unfolding play. We may see slight tweaks for a probably dry Freo game.

Consider how good our guys were given a large number of the Don goals were a direct result of dodgy umpiring.

The Mouse Pack are generating their own enthusiasm and culture.

Probably 3 of the next 6 to make the eight, a couple more to make top four.

Sitting watching on the Sunshine Coast thinking โ€œgee itโ€™s cold tonight.โ€ Then watching the players, supporters and DA in real cold and rain makes me ponder if I may have become a tad soft.

Go you Dees!

Suspect they will be chocking on their corn flakes this morning when they realise their top 4 chances are all but over and may not even make the 8.

It's mornings like this I'm glad I live in the northwest suburbs ๐Ÿคฃ

Really thought the umpires were very lackluster last night with an agenda towards the end .

Good thing we won.

Credit to many of the youngsters again but props to the leadership from Milk, Nibbler and Langers.

And a ripping 100th from Kozzieย

After canning Roo for his ruck work he actually did a good job last night. Perhaps we need to trade Max. Only joking. I checked the fixture this morning and every home game is at night for the rest of the season. Of course who knows when the last game will be. I am too old for these winter night games. They are great for the club financially but [censored] for me.ย ย

and your point is??

Ive been more than critical of Petty of late....quite deservedly imho...

But i thought he fought admirably last night.

I find the many stats thrown around erroneous and bizarre tbh.ย  Esp rucking.ย  Quite often 'wins' attributed where to my eye none such occurred. Aa such in my opinion Petty did well in the rucking duels. To suggest Draper towelled him would be to be watching another game entirely.

How MUCH better are we with Milkshake.... aย ย Maestro of the leather !!!

please leave Roo in front arc ...please

Did we see Caleb Windsor put himself into rising star favouritism last night.?

In front of a huge crowd, prime time TV and coolness under pressure. The commentators loved him.

I used to bemoan having to watch ed langdon from afar but now I have the closer Windsor wing to watch him close up for 4 quarters.

I would have loved to have been there last night...of course VLine has half of the train line shut down - no trains until half way from Melbourne! grrrr

I think Jvr deserves a pat for his ruck work against a pretty experienced and enormous Draper.

Didn't star up fwd but he wasn't really missed in this capacity with the others stepping up.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
