Luke Jackson absolutely copping it on the Freo forum.

Can’t take a mark for peanuts.

Luke Jackson is an absolute star and we were royally ripped off when he left.

These were consecutive posts.

Sometimes Demonland is great.

Windsor does great stuff but at his best he'll be a top tier wingman - a much lower ceiling than Jackson. The other two boys are untried at AFL level. Given we're in our window now (or were in one, it's probably closed now to be honest), potential is worth a lot less than current output.

If Windsor becomes Robbie Flower Mk.II then I'll re-evaluate the trade.

fwiw i agree about losing dog impacting our window, but i'm pretty sure we also got more 'value' for him than any other trade

as i've said before, my mfcss only abated for a couple of months after the premiership until it was confirmed that he a) never got a premiership tattoo and ii) talk about him signing an extension stopped and 3) he put any such further talks on hold

i think he's a freak of a player; i think windsor can be very special too

but at the moment...

premierships with mfc: 1
finals with freo: 0

(that will change this year i would think)

It's only midway through the respective second quarters, but Freo isn't dominating Hawthorn, while Sydney is playing a tentative game against North.

Everyone is vulnerable once the wildness of finals start.

Geelong didn't look especially impressive in the pieces of the game I watched last night, to the point where I think the 'Pies are in major trouble and Geelong might still slip out of the 8.

Everyone is vulnerable is we choose to be the hunter.

A Freo Bigfooty members opinion of Luke Jackson:

Good spoil Jackson, you absolute waste of money

Giving shades of Demonland

Fremantle's loss to Hawthorn is good news for the optimists among us, because it gets us closer to Fremantle, but bad news for the pessimists, because it brings Hawthorn closer to us.

Fremantle have 10.5 wins. Their remaining 6 games are us, West Coast, Essendon (away), Geelong, GWS (away) and Port.

If we win tonight and then beat them next week, we'll pass them on the ladder.

Hawthorn get to 9-8 with 6 to play. Their 6 remaining are Collingwood, Adelaide (away), GWS (away), Carlton, Richmond and North. Watch out. They have a clear path to 13 wins here (Adelaide, Richmond and North, then just one of Collingwood and GWS, who they've already beaten this year).

If we lose tonight, you'd probably say Hawthorn's at least an even chance of passing us in the run home.

The above reflects the ridiculous evenness of the ladder. 3-13 can barely be split, and even 1 and 2 are beatable.

More like a bob each way. If we can't come home with a wet sail finishing below Hawthorn gets us that little bit higher in the draft

I kind of want the Dogs to beat Carlton and then Gold Coast to beat Port just to keep things wild.

Plus, that would put Collingwood in 12th, equal with the Hawks who they play next week. Hilarious.

I can't believe carlton, geelong and freo are in the top 4.

Seriously though, no matter how much you think our culture is shot, our game plan is broken, our coach is too stubborn, our best players injured/out of form, and even if you're right (because you may well be), the majority of the rest of the comp are barely better.

Geelong's 3rd but just came off a 1-6 run, including two 10+ goal beltings, and we've beaten them. Three weeks ago they were being completely written off.

Fremantle's 4th but lost to West Coast and now Hawthorn.

Essendon's 5th but have a percentage under 100% and just one win over a side in the current top 9.

Port's 6th but their fans booed their coach off the ground and want him sacked, and a fortnight ago played the worst game of the season against St Kilda, and were again completely written off.

Brisbane 7th but like Essendon, only have won win against a current top 8 side, and keep conceding big scores.

GWS is 8th but had a 3-7 run in the middle of the year which included a loss two weeks ago to Adelaide (the only side they've beaten other than West Coast in 10 weeks). Yet another side who two weeks ago was completely written off.

Collingwood in 10th have one win over a side not in the bottom 4 since Round 8, and an injury list longer than my leg.

Hawthorn in 11th are...well...Hawthorn (they're in better form than most).

The Dogs in 12th haven't won consecutive games for two months.

Gold Coast in 13th are winless away.

Equalisation has finally come. To me the anyone can win scenario is a little boring. The season lacks the natural ebb and flow that dominance of say five plus five teams deliver. You need some easy wins to break up the pattern.

Eventually the home and away becomes a blur where luck and injuries deliver you a round 23 outcome

just in time for head office to stuff it all up and bring in a new franchise...

The more chaos the better and we either play the sides above us or they play each other. All we need to do is take it one game at a time and if we play well and continue to build form then the ladder will sort itself out.

Dee's have gone ahead of the Pies on the ladder without kicking a ball!!😃

You do realise it is possible that after tonight they may jump ahead of us without having kicked a ball today?

😯

How does a full-forward get 2 intercept possessions in a first half?

Has had a hand in almost every Carlton score so far and in some cases has been the difference between 'meh' and a goal.

Carlton have matured a lot as a team but there's still just that little bit of dependence on superstars.

Carlton are just the biggest wannabes. I really want someone to put them in their place.

Curnow is badly overrated but I'd like him at Melbourne.

On Saturday the Suns, buoyed by 3 wins on the trot, face the Dockers in a clash crucial for both teams' aspirations this season. The Suns want to solidify their Top 4 standing whilst the Dockers will be desperate to break into the 8.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
