Says pretty much everything when the guy you brought in to back up Max is pipped at selection by the guy who never plays in ruck, gets hurt nearly every week at the moment and according to some on here has been 'underdone' most of the year.

Definitely not panning the selection, reseeving judgement on that one but it's pretty disappointing that we get a guy in only for there to be no trust in him at all at selection and this goes for about 4 games this year not just this one.

Maybe he is not up to doing the job, they want him to do?

We are not inside the 4 walls, but i bet my Left Ball that Goodwin wants to win the game.
Max is out, this is a massive gamble, but if it comes off….

I have to question why Fullarton is on our list.

My conclusion is he Must have looked ok in the VFL , best option available for basically no cost. He got to the club and has underwhelmed so not selected

Sadly (for me and for Casey ) I’ve seen too many VFL games and I’ve not noticed any ruck there doing much to suggest they’d perform at AFL level.

I'm ok with this selection. They obviously feel Fullerton will loose the ruck battle most of the time, so may as well go with 3-4 guys who will loose the ruck battle most of the time but offer way more when they are not playing ruck then Fullerton

Not surprised at all. Fullarton and Verrall would play as ruckman and be outclassed by a very good ruckman.

Petty, JVR and Turner will play a pinch hit ruckman, trying to nullify and add value on the ground.

It's a big blow for TF but if he didn't know already he certainly knows now where he sits.

This.

And if it doesn't work, he'll be in next week for Freo

I understand the argument for this, but don’t agree with it.

It’s clear that we don’t have faith in any of the ruck options (Fullarton, Verrall, Schache). Fine. For those who say “why did we get Fullarton”, I think it’s less about why we got him and more about why he’s failed to impress. We took a punt in some respects, and it hasn’t worked. He should be good enough to get this spot but he isn’t.

But even accepting we don’t have faith in those players, we have to balance picking a poor ruck against putting a far more important long-term forward into the ruck against Draper who no doubt will try to bully whoever he gets. I cannot stand seeing JVR in there at the best of times, but it’s not much better thinking that we have to throw Petty and Turner there too. It’s also near certain we don’t play all three when Gawn returns so we don’t need to see what they all look like together

I’d have preferred we maintained the same structure by going with the admittedly poor ruck replacement and allowing JVR/Petty/Turner to keep playing as forwards.

He was probably never going to be in this week. Goody has a plan.

Gots me zero time for Smarties, FD.

Yet this is exactly what do did regarding Tom Fullarton several weeks ago, and he is also “ young and yet to debut”.

Yep.

It's not rocket science.

That's now your 19th post on Demonland ever, and I'd estimate 13 of them have been 'OMG I'm so oppressed'.

Join the conversation or don't, but turning up just to sulk is tedious for everyone else at the party.

Don't think he'll be able to go with Merrett.

Clarry's not a great tagger at the best of times and his head's not even in the stadium half the time this season from what i've been witnessing.  Sometimes yes, other times away with the fairies.

Personally i'd consider sacrificing  Chandler in a lock down defensive role here.  Hassling, tackling is his thing and he doesn't really impact much as a HF on the scoreboard anyway.

May as well try and get the win here as Merrett's impact around the ground is at an all time high atm.

Would also like to see Kozzy playing a solid defensive HF role on McGrath who gives them serious drive & speed on transition off HB at times.

I was minding my own business and I see her post suggesting I bagged players?

I called her out and asked me to provide evidence, which of course she didn't.

I think that's fair enough, no? And she is now on ignore, so all will be well.

Perhaps it's filtered into this forum over time, but it seems that those of us who have the capacity to go full spectrum with our view and opinions on the club are constantly shouted down. An opinion provided about a player 'missing too many targets' turns into 'bagging' said player.

WCW is a fan. I'm a supporter.

This is a forum for all views. If she doesn't agree with something I have said, she can disagree and perhaps engage in a discussion as to why she disagrees. But she doesn't, she just calls me out for 'bagging' players. She's a fan. Same as Saty.

Well said. I'm tired of it too and it doesn't look like we're the only ones.

This person likes to dish it out and be negative around here but will never answer one question you put to them when you take them to task, it's poor form. They also point out how long you've been on here like they own the place when they've only been on here for 3 years themself. Unpopular view but they have really brought this place down with their negativity and urge to bully and control here.

Yeah nah… I’ve NEVER taken a potshot at Tom Fullarton. In fact, I’ve never taken a potshot at any player. You must be thinking of another poster. 🤷‍♀️

Last week Petty was injured.

Yes but Petty is not a ruckman.

According to the FD neither is Fullarton.

Ths might have already been mentioned and I haven't gone back through the thread.

Would it not have been tactically smart to have Max Gawn down as 'test' for this week and keeping the extent of the injury hush hush? Just to cause a bit of havoc with Essendon's game planning.

They probably have to release injury info once official scans come in probably. But just a thought.

I don’t think you can do that with the new CBA rules. Have to be ultra clear and transparent on injuries

Don’t think they could possibly get any taller. Already got 11 players above 190cm listed. They’re surely the tallest team in the AFL

Jones

Draper

Martin

I’m praying for a wet night

I din't give a [censored] how tall they are and realistically it doesn't make a difference re who will win.

ANB has done very well in his hard tagging roles of late partly because he's one player opposition midfielders can't run off.   He (or someone) must follow Zach Merrett all game. The dude is on absolute fire right now, hitting up targets from anywhere and everywhere.

We went in with Weideman as solo ruck vs Adelaide a couple of years ago, which worked out fine, so this comes as no surprise that Goody is just backing tried players. Winning clearances will be a bigger worry this time, but at least we have a few guys to rotate through

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
