No I meant we get Peatling and then use pick 5/6

Oh right. I’m all for that

We currently hold pick 6 thanks to Gold Coast.

Keep it dees and get a 12 year gun midfielder.

Pick 5 when Saints win

Tim Lamb and Alan Richardson are both recipe for disaster for this footy club.

And if next years pick is a 15-18 after we swapped it for Houston and drafted a gun mid with pick 5/6 this year, would it be such a big disaster?

Long road ahead if we’ve got people like Alan Richardson and Tim Lamb contributing to these decisions.Ā

I think for Richardson to say this he must be confident that they can get some deals done with mature player they are currently in discussions with.Ā

It won't happen. Port want two first round picks including this year.

That's there starting point.

Exactly. We've been trading out our future first most years for the better part of a decade. This time it could be for an established best 22 player.

Given the depth of this years draft pool, it makes absolute sense to me to trade our future first for a quality player like Houston or someone as equally likely to be best 22 and an upgrade on what we have. Then take pick 5/6 to the draft (if we haven't split it) and still bring in a couple more kids with 2nd and 3rd rounders. What's not to like?

There's risk involved, sure. But I'd rather upgrade our list as best we can with established talent and simultaneously bring in another 2-3 kids.

Their starting point in negotiations.

Negotiate with the Tiges then……

They don’t have genuine motivation to trade Houston, so won’t unless their high price is met.Ā

The market isn’t really moving to meet that price, so unless someone else budges, Houston’s staying at Port.

I'm open minding on future pick trading as long as we take a first and second round pick to the draft this year to keep adding young talent

With that being said, they better be very confident re Oliver & Trac's 2025 prospects if we do trade out of 25'

I think a lot of it is probably due to their projections on where Kalani White and Ah-Mu will be bid on

Agree, is there anything to suggest either are anything more than later picks at this stage?

I’m not sure tbh

If the Saints beat Carlton we'll have pick 5.

What if it ends up being a top 5 pick for Houston?

With Ashcroft and the GC academy kid, that pick will be 7. Josh a battle compo could make it 8

A Josh Battle comp pick doesn't effect us if we have P5 and the saints have P6 (and then 7)

You’re assuming the Saints beat Carlton. They won’t, because they are St KildaĀ

Though the did beat Geelong and Sydney not long ago

Maybe they could reaffirm their loser status by winning, therefore pushing their picks back

It was reported that the Hawks offer for Battle would not trigger the pick following theirs, it would be end of first round

I'd be very surprised if Lombard goes top 5. More likely 10 - 20 range.

Saints will up their offer forcing the Hawks to up their offer and the compo will push in to band 1 because the afl will feel bad for St KildaĀ

Edit: Ok I misunderstood, you mean, we might be back in 14th here again next year? I hope the club is not thinking that way and backs itself to contend, it's as simple as that.Ā

Ā

Well I was responding to the poster that said trading only a future pick for Houston, would be a disaster.Ā

But my thoughts on this years pick: I'd rather we kept pick 5/6 and only offered a future pick, if Houston doesn't get done then so be it.Ā

A month ago I was open trading both first round picks if it was 9-10, But also if we somehow got Ports 1st round 14-18 pick back. Now that it's 5/6, and people have said the first 5 kids are all as good as each other, then we have to keep it and only offer a future 1st rounder and back ourselves to be contending next year.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
