I think we should go to the draft this year with as much draft capital as possible. Hopefully we can bring in one or two UFA,s too.
We probably need to go hard at next years draft too before we start trading top picks for players. That’s 2 years to add to our crop of young players and one to target more mature players through trading before the Tassie team enters starts in 2027.
I remember being super impressed with Richmond’s recruitment in 21. A year after their last flag and they went to the draft with 5 picks inside the top 30. A year later they added Hopper and Taranto. But look where they are now. I don’t know if they over estimated the quality on their list and the 5 they picked certainly have really starred so far. But it goes to show how difficult it can be to get these things right.

I give you Jason Taylor

Why thank you Roost, I’ll gladly take him. Any chance you could give me an upgrade on Tim Lamb while you at it?

Tom Morris reporting that Rowan Marshal is not all that happy at Saints.

I know the duel ruck set up with Grundy didn't work and has left some people scarred, but Ro-Mo is a genuine fwd threat and can play that role, as well as giving Max a very good chop out in the ruck.

Will cost a lot to get him, but could it be worth it?

yep, but the aints will want clayton oliver for him

Oliver doesn't want out.  Its a pipe dream trade but if he did want out and it cost us draft capital it might be worth it. Tomlinson would be a good fit for them too. he is out of contract but he actually would be perfect for them.

I don't think this will happen but if there is a chance i hope they are picking up the phone to his management

I think it is risky to avoid drafting in the next 2 years given Tassie will probably get some AFL assistance thereafter. Look what happened to the team (us) that was at the bottom of the ladder when GCS and GWS entered the league..........we were rubbish for 10 years. A few draft shockers didn't help either mind you.

Don't get me wrong i love JT, but he has had as many misses as hits since he has been there.

Development and coaching is more important.

Please don't speak about JT that way..... bloke deserves a statue

he has been there since 2012, wish it wasn't true.  But the Dees faithful do put him in too high a regard IMO

And helped take one of the worst performing clubs in history to a premiership?

The Weid over Curnow/McKay was his biggest miss. But he hasn't missed too often in that time.

tomlinson is an unrestricted free agent, but they might want to trade for him...

he could walk to the aints and fit right into their backline...mostly cos we're picking up battle as our own ufa from them...

there is a lot in there, Toumpas as well.  Kent, Jones, Terlich, Kennedy-Harris, Baker, Stretch, McDonald

He isn't bad but i just don't think as good as others think.  And at the time of the draft players are different to what they are now, everyone was scared of Curnow because he was done drink driving and had some off field issues, no club would say no now.

He is good at his job, but development is more important.

That's a nice under the table agreement we could make

Weid had tiny little arms, having massive biceps is the best base for a full forward apparently

Fairly certain Taylor's first draft was 2013 with Salem.

Wasn't responsible for the selections of Toumpas, Terlich, Kent, Matty Jones etc... I actually rated Kent, shame he was just so injury prone.

I'm pretty sure he came on after the 2012 draft, so wasn't involved in drafting Toumpas.

Anyway don't want to get into revisionism about every draft, but I'm sure if we looked into it in detail he would be up there as one of the best draft talent spotters in the competition.

I loved all of them, i thought Jay Kennedy-Harris was going to be a star.  And was a big fan of Billy Stretch too.

It's 90%+ selection. That's why Harry Sheezel thrives while Will Phillips plays in the magoos most weeks. One was a good pick, one wasn't.

All recruiters have misses. Its about the players with lousy picks and rookies that matter. With luck Windsor, Kolt and JVR will be elite. Fingers crossed for K Brown as well.

I have high hopes for McVee and Howes also.

Can take a few years for a player to come really good. After his 3rd preseason we may see Jeffo start being a serviceable KP on his way to being good at the top level.

100% Agree, i have huge wraps on Kolt, he reminds me a lot of Petracca at the same age.  Windsor looks amazing and exactly what we need.  JVR i think will be a premo forward of the comp.  I'm not as optimistic on Brown, sort of the same boat as Woewodin, they don't have all the talent but sound like they are work horses which you do also need.

Agree with McVee and Howes, both can be future midfielders for us.

And now the news of AMW this week, good luck to him.

Investigations can take a long time, it makes no difference to us now he will be delisted by the club at seasons end .

I don't want to be any more specific than that really. Other than supply and demand and join the dots

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
