A yes to Stengle for mine. He'd be ahead of Chandler.

If we do what I think we should do and revert to a forward half territory game, we need more x factor at ground level. It means slower entries become more dangerous if we get them to ground and repeat stoppages inside 50 would also face a better chance of being converted with more x factor.

Which is why I hope we also target Rachele.

IMV we've had a style that suits x factor smalls, which is why Kozzy has shone in our system. Problem we've had is we don't have any other x factor smalls.

I agree we should be looking at Stengle and Rachele was a player I also thought would suit our needs, possibly in an exchange with Petty (I think we would need to offer a bit more)would also take Richards from the Doggies in a heartbeat. I also agree we will revert to a forward half territory game however I am having none of the slow entries. Any forward especially your X factor players want quick entry into an open forward line with space to weave their magic with higher quality looks on goal. For me the less stoppages the better. If there is a team that has been the victim of mystery finger tips on shots on goal according to a score review itโ€™s Melbourne, in particular ANB. Make no mistake about it a forwardline that is required to constantly run so high up the ground to defend and back, slow ball movement into congestion and kicks wide to a pocket is why we are so inaccurate in front of goals. Costing us games and possibly a premiership in 2023.

Slow entries are a fact of modern footy if you're playing a forward half game. It's being able to take a contested mark or bringing the ball to ground and then being dangerous from the ground ball.

...and adding to that having high workrate tackling forwards to lock the ball in the 50.

Sorryย but I wouldnโ€™t touch him. Donโ€™t care how good he has been recently, someone who is openly selling his soul to the highest bidder (if Iโ€™m not mistaken) cannot be good for our club, particularly our โ€œcultureโ€. I mean, the cats made him, he played in a premiership, and yet he wants to leave? Doesnโ€™t sound like a teammate I could rely on to me. Some parallels to us and LJ,ย butย LJ was just a babe, Stengel is 3 years older and knows what he is doing. Itโ€™s a big pass for me.

He can kick goals, he would be an asset to our forward line, at the right priceย

He may help the MFC to win a Flag. We should be heavily enquiring into this as a Business transaction.ย

Interesting you mention the transactional basis. Not to be too angsty and re-open suppurating wounds but if this were true: Grundy would have been played in the finals (were it true that he was dropped as heโ€™d walked the plank, so to speak). Arrrrrrr, time for a rum

Yes. He should have been picked in my opinion. He was a paid employee of the MFCโ€ฆ

He was a very important player as their best small forward in that premiership WHILE on the minimum afl wage. How dare he cash in to provide for his family, while his short lived career is at its peak. I'm not saying he's worth the price tag, but "selling his soul" is a bit much.

Damn Rick Lever! Surely he has run out of sick leave already. Why is he doing work experience with Goddy in the box some weeks?ย

Is it laziness or lack of coaching? ย  Carlton are doing it well.ย

LDU? Maybe.ย

Topline mids arenโ€™t what they used to be โ€” the game has turned towards impact role players and will continue to in timeย

LDU is literally the perfect recruiting target for us imho! Whisky topline mids arenโ€™t as vital as they once weee, what heโ€™d allow by enabling our best role players like Nibbler, Kos to return to the fwd half is where heโ€™d pay-off most.ย
ย

Whilst at same time also add some great inside lateral movement to get the ball to the outside!ย

Wish I knew, that is the recruiting dept. job to find one but I would rather put the reported $800,000 towards a midfielder or a key forward.

Role players are always important but midfielders are more so.

With the increased cap size I think we have to adjust for inflation with player salaries. $800k will very quickly become equivalent to $900k-$1M in the player exchange market.

LDU is probably making the smart call to hold off on making any decisions on his contract year till his FA year in โ€˜25. Iโ€™m not sure he can be extracted from the Roos this off season.

I guess we will get a good look at him tonight - maybe we will see how early he is locked down? ย Hopefully?

Business transaction.

Taking into account his past history, there would need to be certain criteria written into any contract.ย
nothing wrong with being diligentย

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.ย

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
