What posters need to remember is Andy is direct from Darwin.

So no junior development pathway to speak of.

And defence is not part of the footy vocabulary up there.

And when he arrived he was like a stick with hair, similar to Jefferson who is also now beginning to look like an AFL player.

Because Andy had not settled into a position, which is the go in Darwin also, the club has had a blank canvas to work with

I believe in some closed training sessions he is thrown into the middle to give the AFL mids something different to look at.

Consistency is the key for him and he is beginning to show it in a team not travelling well.

As for the game Casey, which I watched live, were smashed at centre clearances and stoppages, too many got sucked in and Coburg got the ball out and were away.

Also the channelling back by the mids and fwds to support the defence was poor until the last qtr

Well said Saty. I am sure he is aware of what the club wants from him and the role he has to play. correct that we got flogged in the centre they had 51 to 33 clearances 3 guys had 9,8 +11 on their own our best was 5 for 4 players. Smashed in the rucks by a player playing in the Essendon district league last week who easily [ushed both our guys away.

Andy is putting together a nice parcel of week weekly

Pretty sure in the interview with JT he said Luker was injured, 2 weeks out from memory?

Would be ready made to come into the afl team tomorrow. Don't understand why we picked a guy averaging 10 possies and 7 hit outs a game when there's these vfl superstars up for grabs

I better send an email to Jason Taylor tonight and let him know you're available as a recruiter @kozzyisalegend. He probably doesn't know that there are "vfl superstars up for grabs". Thanks for the tip.

That would make sense then. Would be bizarre if they were leaving him out for moving purposes. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery

You have to nominate!!

Are you being serious ?

I think they are being serious. Verral and Fullerton were made to look amateurish by the Coburg ruckman. When he wasn’t physically pushing them out of the contest to win the centre taps, he was grabbing it out of the air to handball to his mids or running forward to mark and kick goals. Then he got injured. On that performance we don’t have a back up for Max.

Look at when Casey #28 was rucking against Coburg #14.

They had to change their main ruck out after Verrall had 5-6 in a row. Their 2nd guy was just crash and bash - mainly against Fullarton as he was doing 70+% ruck time today. Thought you were there?

No I watched it on the AFL feed .If Verrall slaughtered Podhajski then the AFL feed must have used trick cameras because what I saw was diametrically opposite to your claim .it was a man against boys for both Verrall and Fullarton .

Agree George.  It's depressing seeing Verrall & Fullerton getting consistently beaten in the VFL by "good ordinary" VFL standard ruckmen.

Heaven help us if Max gets injured.

Verrall is 19 isn’t he?

I have said he will be an LJ type not a Max type.

As I said before. He would've been told he is a good chance to be drafted by Melbourne,  and if so that he'd be staying with koltyn. To not play him if he is fit is astounding

Jacob blight is from peel and is currently playing for the Richmond 2s

Settle down.

Playing this week will have absolutely no bearing on his future with us.

May have had things to sort out before he moves his life across the country.

Good post Saty.

I didn’t think AMW had any chance of playing at AFL level, but have changed my opinion this season, after his much improved play.

No, he was injured. And yes every game he can play is crucial for his development as he is very raw

So he has moved but is out injured. Ok.

I disagree that missing playing today, not knowing any game plan, hardly knowing his team mates and with a below AFL level fitness, was “crucial “ to his development.

My thoughts

AMW - Showed some spark today, when he got involved we often were able to move the ball into the f50 through the corridor. Reminds of Rivers, breaks lines, runs and carries and defends well in the air and on the ground. Ball use was not great but overall Casey did not function well as a team so my judgement is not harsh on him, he had little support.

Howes - Really lacks intensity but had some moments. To be honest, i did not notice him until the 3rd quarter.

Jed Adams - Puts his body on the line and had some big marks in defense today.

Kynan / Sestan / Tholstrup - All 3 boys played a lot of time in the midfield but they're all half-forwards. Kolt showed the most out of the 3 today IMO. Would much prefer Kynan being stationed at HF to play the traditional ANB role. Horses for courses atm as the Casey midfield is bare.

Jefferson - Looked strong, fast and aggressive today. Limited supply but i see the development.

Laurie - Just not up to it. Very disappointing. 0 damage and he does not defend well.

Verrel - Rucked okay, nothing notable.

Fullarton - First time seeing him play in person and my worst fears were confirmed. He is allergic to contact. Did not see him affect an arial contest once. Great leap but often mistimed his jumps both in the ruck and when attempting to mark.

By all reports (haven’t seen a
Casey game this year) AMW is starting to knock the door down.   Hope he gets a gig soon - he could be a risk of itchy feet if he doesn’t.

Sadly Fullarton doesn’t seem to have been a worthwhile trade - if he cannot get a game as a forward / ruck back up when we right now are in dire need of both  then surely he never will.

Might as well not play for the whole year then

Or ever again, if you want to resort to silliness, instead of a sensible discussion about one game for Casey missed being “ crucial “ to his football development as you posted.

You win I’m out.

Said it a while back, Fullarton is pretty much another Schache clone but probably hates physical contact even more.

The recruitment never made sense from the very start. Go read all the Brisbane fans comments on bigfooty when he left and they were celebrating his departure.

Can't believe we signed him to a 2 year deal.

Fullarton is Schache 2.0?

Absolutely agree, we have both been on the same page since day dot on this one.

I think the FD were taking a punt on a Luke Jackson 'style' player. With boys being having basketball backgrounds, very athletic with great a leap. However Fullarton has no love for the contest and very little craft.

It also has created a very bizzare team balance issue at Casey that now we are supposed to have (if fit) all of Fullarton, Jefferson, Schache BBrown and Luker K all in the same forward line.

Desperate times, unfortunately we lost our future ruckman in Jackson.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
