I hope we can settle into this game a bit earlier then the last two games. More for our collective nerves then anything else.

We certainly don't want to let them get the clearance/stoppage dominance they got in the first half of last years game!

I believe so

I don't like Thursday MFCSS symptons. Neales 250th game has me worried.

LOVE THIS ❤️

I was so happy for the boys - it felt like one of those galvanising games and great to get one back from the Lions after the 2022 final.

So many involved, but how good was it for Melk to have his moment? Completely deserved it. Such a quality footballer and seems like a real nice guy, too. Can't wait to have him back.

Oh and I still love Hipwood trying to claim that final mark!! 🤣

Sadly it appears Salem may of passed his best. Injuries and other issues may of caught up with him. Personally I'm holding judgement until writing him off as he's a one of our smartest footballer's. We can probably adapt his role to make him more than useful into the future.

Agree with those wholeheartedly. For a combination of reasons, he hasn't hit form since the end of 2021. I'm not writing him off and agree there's still value in him, but not in the defensive structure.

Anecdotally, he also has seemed far more adverse to 'contact' over the past 18 months or so too.

This has been doing the rounds all week, if true is balanced in part by Lachie Neales crook ankle he is not 100% fit either

Apparently Bailey is under an injury cloud as well.

Yes, when Melk went down the flag hopes where gone, they  try and  say, it's our culture is why we went out in  straight sets,  how about having all our forwards either injured, or suspending or coming back from a long term injury

Please everyone who is going can they barrack as twice as loud, because I am unable to go because my back is putting great pressure on my groin, which is causing a lot of pain, and making it hard to walk. I am using a walker to walk, and taking pain killers. I am seeing a physio who is very happy with progress. Too hard to go with walker, and I doing exercises and plenty of walking to get better. This is the first Melbourne game I have missed at the Mcg for many years.

Hang in there Ditcha, get well soon!

Boooo! that doesn't fit the narrative 🤮

ABSOLUTELY!!

We'd have another flag if Melk and/or Petty didn't get injured.

Aside from having those guys injured right before finals, and Fritter clearly not 100% - it would have been incredibly disruptive for the team to have to continue to move magnets/adapt strategies before/during finals.

Our forward line is already looking better, even though it's only still settling. Imagine 2-3 months with Petty/McAdam finding rhythm, and then Melk to return in good time to find his feet and form for finals.

Much overlooked, particularly by our own. Had those Carlton & Collingwood games been home & away, the boys would have been lauded for running them so close under the circumstances. But "straight sets" is the sexier headline. It also fuels the MFCSS. Sometimes I reckon we'd have got more credit if we'd lost each by 10 goals instead of a few points.

I don't think Melk will get back in, and if he does, then we might be in trouble, that will mean there is a lot of injuries,

Still intermittent rain here in South Yarra.

Forcast indicates that it will clear soon.

Hope it's cold enough for the Northern team, so they focus on the freeze, rather than the effort to do the one percenters.

This is true. But the reality is we won't escape the year without injuries. I hope McAdam plays a lot this year, but based on his history, he may not. Factor in BBB out from time to time, which will require a little shuffle. Plus, Melk plays such a good defensive forward role - there will be games we'll need/benefit from that. It's a long season, I am guessing we will need his experience at some point (provided it's not at the expense of our entire forward line becoming unavailable, again!).

Regarding weather, according to 'AccuWeather'  app

Day: 65% chance of rain but only 4mm forecast

Night: 25% chance of rain, real feel low 10*, average wind 11km/h

Good conditions for us based on that lot. AccuWeathers accuracy to be proven

Love Hoiney and I really love that the other two just shut up and let him educate them. Cornes in particular should give some thought to the term "you learn more by listening than you do by talking"

No rain the whole morning in the west, forecast is not showing any rain for the rest of the day.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
