I believe if your namesake was playing in the QF last year, Gus would still be playing and we would have been into the Prelim Final and possibly winning the flag.

Maynard would never have done that if Rodney was out there.

Balls is 58 years of age. Do you really think he would frighten Maynard?

He still frightens me,

You know what I meant, when he was playing. You could substitute Ditterich, Biffen, Durnan, Cameron Clayton, Byron Pickett and a few others in their playing days.

He did it because he knew he would get away with an on the edge, hard hit, early in the game.

I reckon this bloke would have sorted him out nicely (and a reminder about how many sleeps to go to the start of the season).

I'm feeling very positive about this match after watching us against the Blues.

Surely Clarry plays.

Billings and Windsor are a lock as the Demon debutants.

Agreed all around.

I think only changes to Carlton squad will be Clarry for Brown & perhaps Fullarton for Kos, with Laurie as more of a fwd/mid option. Unless we somehow work a miracle with McAdam & he can be the sub.

They may wait in Clarry but way I see it he played with Casey to protect him exposure wise and cannot see why he’d be held above as that’d only add pressure to his shoulders for R1-2.

I saw McAdam at training yesterday. He was running freely but appears to be a few weeks off.

Jacko was tough.

I used to watch Dees' games with Cameron Clayton's dad while Clayton was a Dee. Cameron was seriously tough.

Stewart Gull was another who was tough. He was a boxer. One practice game at Prahran he hit his eye on the point post and split it open. I watched him get it sewn up in the rooms and he was just happily lying there, blood everywhere, while I was struggling not to faint.

Agree with the sentiment, why keep the Ferrari in the garage.

I reckon he has paid his dues. Hope the club feels that way.

Still only running restricted distance and timed sprints (150-200 m).

Still not doing much in the way of directional change drills or ball work.

When he starts doing some hard running laps, then he could be right to go.

If Clarry does, or when he plays, I believe his challenge will be dealing with some sledging. Hope it fires him up. He seems to loves niggle and can be a smart [censored]. Umpires have shown that they don't give him much love. Hope he doesn't explode/implode, otherwise all teams will be at him.

Need an enforcer!

My suspicion is that the AFL has an ongoing promise to Richmond and Carlton that they will play the first game of Round 1 every year. And the AFL has found a way to stick to that promise.

Makes more sense than anything else I have heard. Continuing this trend will get us to Round -1 soon ... 😆

I'm not worried about that with Clayton. When the ball is not active he's definitely got into niggles in the past but one thing that is known is that as soon as that ball is live in play he locks in. I still love thinking back to that first year under Roos where he encouraged the 'see ball get ball' to simplify the role for Clarry as a first year player/young bull. Obviously since then he's matured and become somewhat more dynamic but he's always been pretty focused and doesn't get caught up in bull[censored].

Yes! And the way I feel I would go seriously balistic and I am older than Rodney and would not be adverse to seeing how tough this (censored) is!

Watched the Sydney game against Brisbane and Ladhams was far away the better ruckman between he and Grundy.

Grundy ran around looking like he lacked the required match fitness.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
