Injury ruined the draft chances for Riak Andrew in 2023. He’s very lightly built (192cm, 72kg) and plays as a tall interceptor role as a defender.  Similar but shorter than his brother Mac Andrew (Suns) , he is raw but you can see real talent and he has the athletic qualities to progress to the AFL. Hope he gets into Casey list program and continues developing

Agree- saw him early in the season and thought he had something to give, we wish him well, maybe his big brother may eventually join him

It's his older brother. His junior coach at Lysterfield and South Belgrave said he was just as good as Caleb, but he had his under 18 year ruined by injury.

Kai Windsor

Played plenty of games in his draft year 2022 including 2 in the VFL with box hill, but didn’t seem to play in the VFL at all last year. Can’t seem to find any local stats either so I assume he missed all of last year.

Kai Windsor highlights 

The nucleus of the team surrounds Mitch White, Tom Freeman, and Roan Steele, with these 3 expected to play majority of games.  They’re backed up the next 12 players likely to get some games depending on MFC availability, being Riley Baldi, Jack Bell, Paddy Cross,  Tyler Edwards, Tom Freeman, Max Gregory, Ned Moodie, Harvey Neocleous, Charlie Peters, Tom Sheridan, Ziggy Toledo-Glasman, Ryan Valentine. All showed the ability although very limited action.

ARRIVALS:  Leo Connolly should be a consistent place in Casey’s team across half back. Youngsters like Szybkowski, Shipp and La Planche should get their opportunities throughout the year. La Planche had a very good 2022 and was unlucky to not get drafted.  He is a taller rebound defender. Kai Windsor is a good midfielder whose injury problems have restricted him. He has the talent and it’s nice to see him join his brother at the Dees. 

Jack Billings, Tom Fullarton and Marty Hore are likely inclusions in the early stages of the year. 

DEPARTURES: The loss of Munro and Grey are big, big outs at Casey.  Grey especially was on the fringes of a potential rookie place and matched up against any AFL talent. Goonan, McRae and Briggs were serviceable but only very limited games so little impact. Departing of Harmes, Dunstan and Deakyn Smith weaken the carry over depth.

I like the VFL teams competing with the AFL teams just don't like the byes. It should be a 21 or 22 round competition not 18.

Melksham long term injury.  With Oliver and Joel Smith missing likely through the early parts of 2024. Billings may get the nod ahead of Chandler at the start. Hopefully Brayshaw and Petty are right to play. 

@WERRIDEE  Quite optimistic on Caleb Lewis.  He’s a talented youngster but not sure he’s the type for the high possession midfield role.

Excellent pickup back at Casey.  Was very good for Werribee especially in 2023. The 25yo is ready to go as a mature player across Casey defence. With Daniel Turner having extended absence due to injury, he will slot into 3rd defender role behind Hore and Adams.

Casey coach Taylor Whitford has confirmed that Campbell Hustwaite has joined the Casey Demons for the 2024 season.

Hustwaite was with Collingwood VFL for five seasons and co-captained the Pies for the last three years with another Magpie VFL stalwart, Lachlan Tardrew.

I think it’s a great selection for Casey given the loss of such a great VFL campaigner in Jimmy Munro. Hustwaite should go a long way towards filling the immense void of talent and experience left by Munro’s departure and by playing with one of the competition’s strengths should do his AFL aspirations no harm.

Leo Connolly

Connolly lingered in the Sandringham VFL team in 2022-23 after playing seven AFL games for St Kilda in 2021. From Gippsland, he's living in the Beaconsfield district, putting him in Casey territory.

Andrew Green

The left-footer has travelled far and wide to play football. Last year he stopped at Cranbourne in the Southern league and caught the eye with his dash and poise.

Eddie King

King gets high marks for initiative. The 18-year-old sent the Demons his highlights package from school football and Richmond Juniors. Invited to training, he was so impressive with his pace and poise that Casey gave him a contract before Christmas.

Brayden La Planche

The 189cm La Planche was co-captain of the strong Eastern Ranges team last season, playing at both ends of the ground and averaging 11.9 touches.

Caleb Lewis 

Lewis had some good moments for Footscray VFL last year, kicking three goals in successive rounds, and also starred at amateur level for St Bede's Mentone Tigers, nailing 49 goals from 14 outings. More senior opportunities should bring more exposure for the former Sandringham Dragon.

Kobe Shipp

Coming out of Dandenong Stingrays, Shipp has joined the club where his father, Andrew, was a premiership player and Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal winner. The Stingrays considered Shipp junior a rookie hope after he finished the 2023 season with the flourish of 26, 24, 22 and 25 possessions.

Mitch Szybkowski

Widely considered the hardluck story of the 2022 draft, the Dandenong Stingrays midfielder joined Frankston last year and had an encouraging season, but he's chosen to switch to the Melbourne-aligned Demons.

Kai Windsor

Just as his younger brother Caleb became a Demon in the AFL draft, Kai Windsor will be a VFL Dee after crossing from Box Hill Hawks.

Kai had also come out of Eastern Ranges, reaching Vic Metro level in 2022 and parading his pace in the NAB League.
