We give: 6, 11, FF, Petty to Adelaide.
Adelaide give us: McAdam.

What you really mean by this is that Adelaide will get a special one-off concession from the AFL tomorrow as a result of its bungled Sydney loss to include one of either Gilbert or Adrian on its list, and it'll be that McAdam they'll be trading to us, not Shane. Seems fair to me!

Cal will be developing a pretty good idea of where that top 5 sits at this stage. And he’s saying we’re a chance:

Just can't see North accepting that. I'd love to dream but with the way Reid is talked about as a generational talent you'd think they'd still ask for more.

It's certainly the most intrigued watch on a number 1 draft pick in years.

Cal Twomey just said that it's down to Melbourne and North vying for pick 1.

He also said in a seperate segment that he currently has the first 6 picks as follows:

1 - Reid

2 - McKercher

3 - Duursma

4 - Watson

5 - Sanders

6 - Curtin

Went on to say that is why he thinks we’re a chance of pulling off a play for Reid - i.e. that Curtin would be available at our pick

Of course noting all of this is subject to change as clubs get a better idea of which club will take which player at their respective picks

Interestingly, whoever we take with our first pick may change how we setup for 2024.

I know when we draft it is more for the longer term, but given the quality of players available it may well change our setup.

Harley Reid - he would likely play 70% forward first year and we can move Trac back into the midfield more.

Ryley Sanders - he is probably ready to go through the midfield so perhaps we leave Trac forward more and even use Brayshaw off half back again at times.

Dan Curtin - he could probably slot into a half back role quite easily and mean Rivers can potentially be released further up the ground.

If we trade for pick 1, there is no doubt i'll be excited to have such a talent on our list.

But he is one player. Imagine he has a career like O'Meara or Rayner.

We could use 6 and 11 on our next centre bounce midfielder and our Steven May replacement. Nail those picks, plus some trades or free agents in 2024/25, and perhaps our premiership window extends.

You can also add Rowell to that list.

I don’t think they’ll get Reid wrong though. I can’t recall the anticipation of his abilities being so high.

6,11 and F2 I think is the right weight. F1 only goes in the table if we get WC F2 coming back our way.

Have WCE categorically stated that their goal is to land Curtain above all else? I know from his interviews that Curtain has said he looks forward to the opportunity of moving interstate and starting a new life, if that eventuates. He did not at all sound like a homesick puppy (or dogga), quite the opposite

I'm wondering if this WCE/Curtain arranged marriage is a myth after all

They haven’t categorically stated it but it was been speculated on by generally well regarded journalists like Cal Twomey

They also split pick 2 last year to get 8 and 12 to get local players Gibney and Hewett

Ultimately getting a local player rather than an interstate one won’t be the deciding factor in whether they trade pick 1 and who they pick, but there are a large number of people who think it will play some role in what they’re open to

They're obviously never going to publicly state that. It's been industry suggestion that they would love to have Curtin. How much stock can be put in that is the question.

Will WCE offer us their first pick 2024 on draft night if Curtin slides to P6 ?

What, after pick 1 is used?

I reckon we're up to our eyeballs in this (pick 1) - the likes of Cal Twomey generally predict the first round so he wouldn't be saying we're a chance if we're not.

Having said that, if you were West Coast, why wouldn't you wait until draft night for the best offer?

Next years. I would take it in the blink of an eye. WCE are wooden spooners for at least the next two years.

I 100% agree, but we have to put faith in the FD they know what they're doing.

I reckon we could ask for more.

If they take Reid and are desperate to grab our pick to take Curtin as well on draft night, we ask for future 1st and future 2nd. Maybe even their pick 23 this year as well.

Today, I prefer Curtin, pick 11 (Lamb said we traded up specifically for players in that range) and F1st to Reid - but ask me again tomorrow ....

Surely West Coast are not strengthening North’s already absurd draft hand. [censored] em.

No, best to use our picks now. Have we ever traded our current 1st for a future 1st?

Can Rayner draft - pick 6 jaiden Stephenson and pick 11 aiden bonar

Matt Rowell draft pick 6 Fischer mcasey pick 11 sam Flanders

You don’t really know what your going to get

yeah some super drafts work out alright but I would rather have cam Rayner or Matt Rowell type player

Edited by Edm

Maybe I am missing something, but if WCE are so keen on Curtin, why not just draft him with pick one?

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
