At the moment, quite a few numbers are vacant for next year, including some low numbers which have historically been more desirable.

So far, we are looking for new players in numbers 4, 6, 14, 23, 27 and 34 with a possibility of others (#10?).

I wonder if any of the higher-numbered players will seek a lower number.  (eg James Harmes started in 43 before taking Jack Watts' old #4.)

Hold 34 till 2025!

If we end up getting him in a trade, you would think Shane McAdam may want jumper number #23? Which is the same number he has worn at the Adelaide Crows.

Judd needs an upgrade. Perhaps flip the numbers and keep #14 in the backline.

I sure as [censored] hope not. 

I bang on about this every year - make your own history in your own number. I wish we’d do away with the whole “lower numbers are more desirable” thing.

I know what you're saying, but it seems to apply to footy clubs at all levels and has always been the case.

Pretty sure that @Supermercado is an advocate for a player running out in #100 or a similar very high number!

We’ve come to know and love him in the #41

Besides, #41 is as good a number as #14 or indeed any other number.

We've cleared the decks and there are some choice numbers available already. Numbers 4, 6, 14, 23, 27 & 34. Some of our existing players may look to shift lockers and are deserving probably no more so than Tom Sparrow and certainly Judd McVee.

There’s something to be said for having and sticking with a high number. When BBB took 50, it only took him a month or so to hold the jumper-number games and goals records. 😄

This isn’t about jumper numbers but I didn’t know where else to post it.

I’m guessing one day in the future there’ll be a similar streak for names such as Lachie, Bailey, Rory, Darcy, Luke, Brodie and Jack, among others.

Incidentally, a few years ago I watched a match where at one point there was six St Kilda players named Jack on the ground. That’s a third of the side. Did I work this out myself? No, I didn’t. But I didn’t need to since BT mentioned it EVERY [censored] FIVE MINUTES.

I think Sparrow is pretty attached to No. 32. Wore it in his junior days

Me too.   As I remember some wanted JV7 to take 12.  And I sadly remember LJ48 wasn't even half the player when he became LJ24.   Not too fussed though really - a first world sort of problem.   JS29, aka SOSS29 has worked out ok.

I hope Tom Fullarton gets #4 for personal reasons: I can still wear my favourite guernsey which has #4 on the back since he’ll likely be my new second fave player just by virtue of the fact that he’s gonna cop a lot of [censored]-canning from his own fans. Sad but true. And yes, that’s the metric I use for ranking players. 😁

If we hold onto pick 6, maybe pick 6 can have 6.

When you mentioned 99 and Max, I thought that you may recommend him (our Premiership captain Max) to be 99, that is nine times the player he already is.  Were that the case we wouldn’t need anyone else on the field at all and could save millions on salary cap.
