I hate Thursday nights. If we’re playing it’s tough enough to watch it on TV, let alone get there if it’s in Melbourne. I’m sure ratings were solid, there’s nothing else to watch, but the question IMO is whether fans like it when their own club plays on a Thursday.

Yeah absolutely agree, I hate it for when we play.

But it's great for tv in the background at home. I am more likely to consume more football games when they are on tv Monday and Thursday nights, compared to say Sat or Sunday arvos.

My thoughts are, if the AFL is going to use Monday and Thursday then it needs to be consistent. Not selected weeks only.

Dees in the NT

The Demons will play Fremantle at TIO Traeger Park on the Sunday afternoon of round 12 (June 2).

Don't mind this as an on going fixture.

The Alice game will give us a week or so to recover for an "away" game against the pies on QB which falls on June 10 next year. I'm guessing our bye will follow that so will be interesting to see if we get screwed again by playing on the Thursday night after it.

There was some early talk that we will play Sydney in Sydney in the "round 0" concept.

I don't mind this as it will give us an extra bye during the year.

Has anyone seen this been confirmed anywhere?

Last I heard was that we would play our first game against the Dogs on Sat, Mar 16 and therefore we were not involved with Round Zero....

Every second day it's been reported in the media that we're playing Sydney in Sydney for round "zero" on Labor day weekend and it's being billed as the Brodie Grundy rematch.

I'd be surprised if we're now not involved.

MFCSS actually

They could screw is more by deeming our gather round v Adelaide to be our home game 🙄😮

Technically we could play Adelaide twice at Adelaide Oval next year. One in Gather Round and one later in the year.

Richmond and GWS both "hosted" Sydney and Hawthorn respectively two times. One in Gather Round and one later in the year.

Geelong one of the teams playing the Suns in Darwin.

nah that article said our first MCG game would be against the dogs, not our first game of the year

nice... looking forward to Collingwood making the trip in the near future.

Cannot see the older brigade of Geelong handling that trip very well.

Bulldogs lost that match last year and their follow up match in Melbourne. Together with playing an SA in Gather Round the three losses ended their season.

In a season where most games are decided by under 20 points every little bit counts

I have no problem with 1 game a year in Alice. Quite like it in fact. We have a longish history there now and a growing fan base as well. We have done some good work there of which I'm proud of the club for.

Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and applaud the club for instigating projects like the Santa Teresa Oval Project as well other positive community work.

Absolutely. You often see a lot of locals wearing Melbourne gear during non-Melbourne NT games. Plus the club and players like to engage with the community whilst they are there, it means a lot to them Melbourne coming back year after year.

Couldn't agree more.

Most people I know like Thurs night footy for the TV aspect and something to do but very few of them are prepared to go to the G on a Thurs night and do the whole nine yards with transport, crowds, expenses etc.

I'm sure there are people here that are happy to go on Thurs night and the TV ratings are great but I personally don't like it.

It’s part of the season so the usual transport crowds and expenses are not “extra”. Mostly it’s a home game like any other and you get a few months notice of it happening.

Sorry that the AFL puts your life out on such a special night of the week. That dastardly Andrew Dillon he is as bad as that Gill bloke.

Where did you hear that? There has not been any news item in the press and our Swans game in Round zero is I believe all but confirmed on Thursday.

How any one could believe a D/Ler with a fake looking Demon Hawk motive is beyond me.

It was a very emotional time for loyal and passionate Dees fans in 1996 and for this to be thrusted at us on this forum is particularly bad form.

Oh and the fact that you say we are still playing the Dogs on Mar 16 has no bearing on the game a week earlier as the bye I believe is factored in for all the “ground zero teams” in early in the season say Round 5 or 7 perhaps. It won’t be our Anzac Eve game vs Tigers though.

It’s a mess already.  Why is it called a draw? A highly manufactured scheme is the best description.  Imagine if it truly was a draw!!

i would like this to become a feature round. Melbourne versus Sydney is a constant comparison. Marketers gold.

According to the Age we will feature in round zero, and then get an early season bye, as well as a mid year bye.

All round zero teams get a bye in the first month or so of the season apparently.

It'll be really interesting to see how we use that, from a fitness and fatigue management perspective.

Perhaps we have a bye the weekend before Gather Round given we have a Thursday night game on Gather Round weekend.

Round zero - @ Sydney

Round 1 - V Dogs

Round 2 - V someone.

Round 3 - Bye

Round 4  - Gather Round @ Adelaide (Thu night)

So dees play back to back H&A games at the SCG vSwans. Wouldnt surprise me. We recently played 2 H&A games at the Gabba in 3 rounds .

Any confirmation yet on what round we get flicked down to the Cattery?

Why are you always so angry?

There’s no reason for you to be so antagonistic when speaking with fellow-posters, especially when they’ve not said anything particularly inflammatory. Your belligerence is puzzling on a Dees forum. Save that sh!tt for oppo fans if you really feel the need to square up with someone.

Surely round 2 is v pies as a Dees home game on a Friday night

Why are you complaining about the Gabba and SCG? The fixture has never been about playing every interstate team at their ground in alternating years. Sydney have played us at the G every year since 2011 except 2016.

Have I missed something? What's this 'round zero'? Thanks in advance.

Look it up in google, articles everywhere about it. Basically we are playing Sydney in Sydney on Sunday March 10 whilst the nrl are in Vegas. 3 other games in nsw and qld as well

I can highly recommend the "Ignore" option WCW. I knew it existed, but only just found it yesterday. Only one person needed actioning, but it has made visiting Demonland so much less frustrating.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
