Mad Monday… a thing of the past?

My favourite thing is people who spent their entire adult life at uni and then straight into an office job, where they’ve remained, having an opinion on how a group of young, elite, high performing individuals should spend their first day off. Let them be and just go away.

Very specific here. Very pointed, too. So, if the folks you describe above shouldn’t have an opinion on  how a group of young, elite, high performing individuals should spend their first day off, who do you think should have an opinion on such?

Also, what happened to the zeitgeist… “everyone’s entitled to their opinion”???

Looks like mills will miss half of next season I would be ropeable if it was our player

He missed almost an entire season a few years ago with a broken foot which came from a mishap after a pre-season training session. The Swans reported that he was playing around with teammates, kicking a toy footy to one another and he landed on uneven ground, rolled his ankle and this action caused a fracture in a small bone in his foot, similar to Fritta’s foot injury.

If we let the latte-chardonnay sipping woke leftist trans communist gays take away our mad monday, what will be next!

This sounds like a Mad Monday I’d love! The music would be so on point - a mix of union songs and disco bangers.

Have we had ours? Obviously low key. Look I think clubs are better at it these days.

But why did mills and some teammate need to wrestle? Mills got injured years ago in a freak accident and now their captain could miss most of next season.

Could you just imagine longmires reaction when he got the phone call.

Just have a look how far things can go wrong by reading the story on Stevie J's premiership team when one of there players is now in a critical condition with facial injuries because some people allegedly thought it would be a good idea to bring fireworks

Che Guevara and Debussy to a disco beat?

The world needs Pete Seeger EDM remixes.

20 odd years ago when I started my professional working life, Christmas Parties could be wild affairs at times. Social mores change over time and end of year functions are much tamer affairs than in the past (at least from what I have observed). I suspect the AFL is no different to the rest of society? 🤔

Yes we had ours at a rooftop bar and the lads were well behaved.

Happy for the Demons players to have a few drinks for the sake of team bonding.

However, I hope that Max Gawn and the rest of the team used the opportunity of their Mad Monday celebrations to "make a pact" to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to win the Premiership in 2024!

We must be as ruthless and determined as we were in 2021 to achieve the ultimate success again and hold up that Premiership cup at the MCG!

GO DEMONS IN 2024!!! 🔴🔵👹

Really? Make a pact? After a tough year when they gave their all? You don't think they try and leave no stone unturned every year?

This ain't the boy scouts, dib dib, dob dob, and all that

I never said they didn't give their all. But they have certainly underachieved with the talented list that the Demons have.

Obviously something needs to fundamentally change so that the Demons are more determined than ever to win the Premiership next year in 2024 at the MCG.

Being called "chokers" by various moronic imbeciles in the football media is humiliating and makes my blood boil! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

The Demons have wasted their opportunities in seasons 2022 and 2023 and we cannot allow this to happen again in 2024.

Anyway, it is up to the Demons players themselves to improve that extra amount just like every other player from an AFL club will wish to do in season 2024. We as Demons members and supporters can only cheer on and support from the side lines.

Rather than MM in September, just do what Maysie does. Mad June.

Nah gruelling season that's already about 4 weeks too long (that's coming directly from a few players i've spoken to).

A traditional bonding 'let-your-hair-down' bit of fun.  The old way is probably more risky (end of season trip).

If you don't let them have the mad monday they'll just find other ways of letting their hair down.  Some of which may end up in worse outcomes.

Boys will be boys.  Let them be boys.

I've also spoken with 2 players directly who feel that the season is too long.

Makes you wonder what the AFLPA does all day.

AFLPA: "Hey Gill, the season is too long. Can we make it 30% shorter?"

Gill: "Weren't you just telling me you wanted the salary cap increased?"

AFLPA: ..............

Gill: " Hello?  ... Hello?"

Possibly not listening to the players or maybe turning a blind eye somewhat?

Although there is no way of knowing what the majority view is across all the clubs LZ.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
